This charming house in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence has its own little swimming pool and is only a 15-minute walk to the heart of the old quarter with its restaurants, café terraces and atmospheric Wednesday morning market.

Villa Libelulle is an attractive air-conditioned holiday home sleeping 4 guests. Step into an open-plan lounge with a TV and dining area alongside a contemporary and well-equipped kitchen. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with its own shower room. Overall this pied-à-terre is stylish and welcoming, ideal for a couple, family or friends wishing to stay close to central Saint-Rémy.

Stroll to the Wednesday morning market to pick up Provençal delights, then bring them home and prepare al-fresco meals on the terrace beside the 10m2 swimming pool, just the right size for cooling off after a day out exploring.

Located in a residential area just south of the town centre, the old part of the town is only 1km away whilst restaurants, the tourist office and a small supermarket are slightly closer. Wander around Saint-Rémy’s characterful streets passing pretty shuttered houses, tree-lined lanes with restaurant terraces, shops and art galleries. Follow the Van Gogh trail which leads to the Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole – the summer lavender is inspiring.

This is a great base for visiting the villages of Les Alpilles with gems such as Les Baux-de-Provence, Maussane-les-Alpilles, Paradou and Eygalières all perfect destinations for sight-seeing or lunch in a gastronomic restaurant. Sample wine in nearby vineyards and some of France’s finest extra virgin olive oil in local farms (alongside honey, cheese and other regional delicacies).

Arles and Avignon are other superb days out as are the landscapes of the Camargue and Luberon. Or stay closer to home and hike or cycle by olive groves, pine forests and limestone peaks as you admire the beautiful scenery so typical of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park.

Villa Libelulle is located in a residential neighbourhood in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence around a 15-minute walk from the old quarter and half an hour by car from Avignon.

You can walk to the tourist office, a small supermarket and local playground in around 700m, then continue to the old part of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with its tree-lined lanes with café terraces, art galleries, shops and small museums. A large market takes place on a Wednesday morning, a great way to pick up delicious regional produce, clothes, artisan crafts and more.

Follow the Van Gogh trail around Saint-Rémy ending at Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole with its summer lavender, perhaps combined with a visit to the archaeological site of Glanum, both south of Saint-Rémy and not far from your holiday home.

Elsewhere, visit wineries and vineyards within a short drive or venture into the heart of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park for landscapes of olive groves, dense forest and limestone peaks. Enjoy gastronomic lunches out in pretty villages such as Eygalières (12km), Maussane-les-Alpilles (9.5km) and Paradou (11.5km), soak up the charm of hilltop Les Baux-de-Provence (10km) and follow the windmill walking trail near Fontvieille.

Experience yet more art and history in Arles (26km) and Avignon (22km) or head further afield to the mesmerising landscapes of the Luberon – the perched villages of Gordes, Ménerbes and Roussillon, all classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, are less than an hour away by car.

In a residential area south of Saint-Rémy, you can walk to the town in around 15 minutes. Follow the Van Gogh trail which ends at the Monastery Saint-Paul de Mausole and pass the playground near the tourist office. There are also some nice walks along the Canal des Alpines which passes nearby.

A short drive away, watch artwork displayed on quarry walls at Carrières des Lumières and visit the perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence with its château (pick up a treasure map from the tourist office to help explore the tiny village).

There’s a lovely windmill walk near Fontvieille – this authentic Provençal village is also home to the Vélorail des Alpilles, a fun way to admire beautiful scenery as you pedal open vehicles along a former railway track.

Le Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is another great family day out with its exhibitions and canoeing/kayaking opportunities or simply enjoy a picnic and paddle by the Gard River overlooking the incredible Roman aqueduct.
