Provence is a delightful place to spend a holiday with family or friends; with a picturesque landscape littered with historic hilltop villages, there is so much for you to see and do here. In this region you will also find Villa Tamarinier. Set amidst verdant hills and the parkland of the Regional Park of the Luberon and just 2km away from a medieval village, what more could you wish for in a holiday destination?
The house is located in a semi-rural location on the outskirts of the beautiful village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt. The home is bright and airy, with an open-plan living and dining room on the ground floor. The living space has large doors onto the garden, which allows the light to pour in and there is an L-shaped sofa where you can get cosy with a good book. In the same area, there is also a dining table where your group can gather for breakfast. The fully-fitted kitchen is at the far end of this room and has all the necessary appliances, including a coffee machine.
This house would suit a small family or two couples travelling together as four people can comfortably sleep here. There are two bedrooms upstairs, one double and one with twin beds. Both rooms look out over the garden and benefit from air-conditioning.
Part of a larger estate, the home boasts its own impressive garden with trees and several seating areas. You can sit on the shaded terrace or dine al-fresco in the sun after cooking on the barbecue. The garden also has a heated private pool and access to table tennis, so there is lots to keep everyone busy! A lovely little feature is the koi fish pond, which has its own jetty.
Though the home is nestled amidst fields, you are not far away from shops, restaurants and attractions. There are a few restaurants in the lanes nearby, though you will find a greater array in the village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, which is just 2.5km away.
This picture-postcard village is perched high up on a dramatic outcrop which enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. In the village, there is a gorgeous old town with churches, historic bathhouses and pretty windmills dotted around, as well as a plentiful supply of little shops and great eateries. Close to the 10th-century church on the hilltop, there is also a dam where you can wander around or fish in the clear waters. From the hillside, you are sure to see that the fields below are awash with vibrant purple colours if you are here during the warmer months; this is, of course, the famous Provençal lavender growing at the local farms. If you would like to get closer to the fields, learn more about growing this fragrant plant and buy some oils or soaps, then why not visit Lavender Farm 14km away.
There is plenty more to see and do in this area, including beautiful villages to discover, vineyards you can tour and the vast woodlands and mountains of The Luberon to explore. If you would like to visit a bustling city, then why not drive to Avignon, 57km away. In the city, you can spend time visiting incredible UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the Palace of the Popes and the awe-inspiring cathedral before an evening boat trip to take in the vistas of the city from the water.
What you should know…
- The swimming pool has a safety cover, but the pretty pond (and stream that leads to the other part of the estate) is uncovered, so parents should be aware of this when children play outside.
- Part of a larger estate, the driveway/entrance gate is shared with Maison Paonne (70m away). Both houses can be booked together for up to 14 guests - please enquire.
- Villa Tamarinier sits within its own garden mostly screened by vegetation but it is worth noting that part of the parkland beyond is open to Maison Paonne's garden - guests are asked to keep to their own parts of the estate.
- Please note that published rates are only valid for the current year. Any bookings for subsequent years will be on request only and correct rates will be confirmed at the time of booking.
- Please note that your booking will only be confirmed once we have checked availability with the owner or their property manager.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa TamarinierSet within an oasis-like garden filled with tall trees and pretty dining spots, you will discover Villa Tamarinier. Part of a larger estate with a neighbouring villa (Maison Paonne, around 70m away, screened by vegetation), this home enjoys the serenity of the countryside, and yet it is just 2.5km away from the centre of a fantastic medieval village, with many others also in easy reach.
Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is the closest village and is a lovely place to have so near to the villa. It sits 400m high in the Monts de Vaucluse, offering incredible views of the Alpilles, the Luberon and the forests at the base of the hills. In the village, you can choose from a range of cafés, bars and restaurants where you can enjoy dinner with a view. The streets are lined with honey-toned buildings which look as if they have been frozen in time for centuries. Walk around the medieval centre to see windmills, old washhouses, fountain-filled streets and even Roman graves! There are many historic churches to visit in the village, the oldest of which dates back to the 10th century and is set in the ruins of an old settlement on the hilltop. You can follow many sign-posted walking and hiking routes leading out from the village, such as the much-loved Aiguiers trail.
This part of Provence is littered with quaint villages. Another one to add to your itinerary is Roussillon, which is 10km away and is a unique place built from red-hued stones from the local ochre quarries. Visitors flock here to see the incredible red and orange colours of the hillsides and the buildings against the backdrop of the sky and trees. The village also has artisan shops, restaurants and cafés. Throughout the summer, the village is a hive of activity as many fetes and festivals take place in the village squares.
Aside from these local villages, you can also discover open spaces close to the villa where you can get in touch with nature and make the most of the warm weather. There are outdoor activities for everyone to try here, whether you like cycling or walking or maybe you would like to see the landscape on horseback.
Another great outdoor activity is to pay a visit to a nearby winery where you can tour the grounds, meander between the rows of vines, visit the cellars and sample delicious wines. Many vineyards, such as Vignoble Chasson, 9km away, also offer lunches or food and wine pairing classes.

Region
With some of the most enchanting landscapes of Provence, the Luberon awaits with its idyllic perched villages, swathes of lavender, cherry trees, vineyards and dense forest.
Become captivated by the scenery as you potter around artistic Gordes with its atmospheric Tuesday morning market before heading to hilltop Ménerbes, the village that inspired Peter Mayle’s ‘A Year in Provence’. Romantic Bonnieux enjoys the most glorious vistas, surrounded by a sea of vines and orchards, whilst red-hued Roussillon will take your breath away with its ochre landscapes and pine forests. They are all officially classified as ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ in France.
Yet there are so many hidden gems to explore as well. Discover the historic doorways, windmills and summer cherries of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, then head to Goult to embrace its Provençal charm with little shops and pavement cafes. Surrounded by fields of lavender, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt is another historic jewel of the Luberon, often overshadowed by the handsome and historic town of Apt.
To the south of the Luberon, follow Albert Camus’ footsteps in Lourmarin, sip coffee by the picturesque bassin lined with plane trees in Cucuron and soak up the history of Ansouis – all three villages have a fine reputation for their high-end dining with a choice of Michelin starred restaurants.
Indeed, across the region look out for restaurant terraces serving Provençal cuisine with superb vistas alongside characterful markets showcasing seasonal delights from the Luberon and beyond (olives, melons, strawberries, cherries, truffles, chestnuts, lavender products and more). Most villages host a lovely weekly market whilst the largest in the Luberon is held on a Saturday morning in Apt. Just on the edge of the Luberon, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famed for its antique stores and Sunday morning brocante. Meanwhile, wine lovers should visit the vineyards and wineries of the region producing Luberon and Ventoux AOC wines.
The walking, hiking and cycling opportunities in the Luberon seem endless and you will also find horse-riding, rock-climbing and tree-top adventures as well as canoeing and kayaking along the Sorgue near Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Come across hiking trails for all abilities passing vineyards and forest or venture through the hills and mountain gorges for spectacular scenery. Cycling is also extremely popular – as well as more challenging routes, we especially love the family-friendly Véloroute du Calavon, a paved voie verte following a former railway line near the Calavon river passing poppies, lavender and orchards so typical of the Luberon.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Tamarinier is located on the outskirts of the charming medieval village of Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt within the Regional Park of the Luberon. With shops, restaurants and attractions close by, this is the ideal place to stay with children as you do not have to take the kids on long car rides.
The Luberon is a stunning area with woodlands, parkland and limestone mountains. Here, visitors can hike, climb, cycle and walk through the gorgeous landscape, and the children can run free through the wide-open spaces.
If you would like to arrange an extra special day out, then why not take the little ones out for a hot air balloon ride over the Luberon mountains and the miles of lavender fields which fill this area. All of your party will love this magical experience!
