Overview
Experience the art of Provençal living in this spacious villa close to the centre of a pretty village at the foot of the amazing Les Alpilles Natural Park. Villa Victoire is fully air-conditioned and comfortably sleeps up to ten guests.
Warm rich colours, ceiling beams and carefully chosen pieces of artwork and furniture provide elegance and character to this pleasing modern home. From the sizeable lounge with its lovely stone fireplace, continue through an archway to the dining area. An additional TV lounge provides further downstairs space and the stylish fully equipped kitchen will please the cooks in the party.
There are three en suite double bedrooms on the ground floor, one with sliding doors to the garden. The fourth downstairs bedroom has two single beds, a cot and its own separate bathroom, ideal for a young family, while the upstairs double enjoys a private balcony and garden view.
The main garden is lawned and planted with Mediterranean shrubs and trees, with sentinels of cypresses and high hedges providing privacy. A gazebo with an outdoor lounge is rather artistically placed in the centre of the lawn, not far from the house. The heated swimming pool is within a fully enclosed area with fragrant lavender beds to promote further relaxation as you chill out on the covered terrace after your swim.
It is a short stroll to the heart of the village where you will find a good selection of shops and restaurants as well as a weekly market. Surrounded by olive groves, this is definitely the place to sample some of the region’s fine olive oil on a piece of fresh baguette or goat’s cheese. Les Alpilles offer many outdoor activities as well as the chance to visit exquisite towns and hill villages such as Les Baux-de-Provence and Eygalières.
St-Rémy-de-Provence has a charming historic centre with chapels, shaded squares, cooling fountains, a famous Wednesday morning market, shops, cafés and fine restaurants. Van Gogh stayed here in the Monastery of Saint-Paul de Mausole, which inspired so many of his famous paintings and the town still has many resident artists. While you are here, don’t forget to book a private wine tour.
From Villa Victoire there are many opportunities for day trips, starting with the historic cities of Avignon and Arles. Further afield are the delights of the Camargue with its white horses, black bulls, lagoons and even sandy beaches.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa VictoireVilla Victoire is situated in a residential area of a pleasant village, south of Les Baux-de-Provence and on the edge of Les Alpilles. It is within easy reach of Avignon TGV railway station and less than an hour’s drive from Marseille Provence Airport.
Nestled in the foothills of Les Alpilles, the village is surrounded by olive groves and wonderful countryside, with a selection of shops and restaurants as well as a weekly market. It is definitely the place to sample some of the region’s fine olive oil on a piece of fresh baguette or goat’s cheese with a slice of tomato!
Les Alpilles Natural Park is fantastic place for families with rock climbing, horse riding, hiking and mountain biking along its many trails. There are so many idyllic villages to be found here, such as medieval Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, perched on a rocky plateau from where you can catch some wonderful views of Arles, the Camargue and the small mountain range of Les Alpilles. Further eastwards is peaceful Eygalières, often considered one of the most beautiful villages in the region.
North of Les Baux is charming St-Rémy-de-Provence with its historic centre, fountained squares, shops and plenty of cafés and excellent restaurants making it easy and pleasurable to participate in a relaxed Provençal way of life. The town was much loved by Vincent Van Gogh and many contemporary artists, still inspired by the town’s light and colour, exhibit and sell their work here.
Keep heading northwards to the lively city of Avignon, so fascinating to explore on foot - the world famous Pont d’Avignon has pretty views of the city and the Pope’s Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You may prefer to take the shorter drive westwards towards Arles, well known for its fine architecture and Roman remains. It’s a memorable experience here to dine beneath the plane trees in Place du Forum where Van Gogh once painted “Café Terrace at Night”.
Arles is often described as a stepping stone to the glorious Camargue with its iconic wild white horses, black bulls, pink flamingos, lagoons and red salt-pans reaching out towards the Mediterranean. It offers plenty of exciting opportunities for horse-riding, walking, quad biking and jeep tours and even a visit to one of its sandy beaches.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesProvence is such a welcoming place for children who will love looking around the local markets, choosing a fresh baguette or stopping for an ice cream in one of the charming nearby villages.
In the small mountain range of Les Alpilles, there are plenty of manageable outdoor activities for kids such biking, hiking, pony trekking and rock climbing.
Visit the chocolate store at St-Rémy after exploring the Glanum archaeological site. There are light and sound shows at Carrières de Lumières near Les Baux, which light up the old limestone quarries.
Art lovers are sure to enjoy following the Van Gogh trail in Arles where there are signboards to identify the building or street where the artist painted – for younger children, there are two playgrounds along the route.
Beyond Arles, spot the wild horses and black bulls in the wild Camargue where there is horse-riding, trekking, quad biking and jeep tours.
Taking a boat trip on the Rhône in Avignon is a great family outing. Smaller children might like to look at the famous nursery rhyme bridge and tour the city on the little road train.
Further afield, hire kayaks and canoes along the river Sorgue in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, visit the model railway just south of Carpentras or try out the exciting Tree-Top activity centre near Salon-de-Provence.
