Only 3km from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, this traditional blue shuttered home in Provence is surrounded by almond and olive trees with the most beautiful views of Les Alpilles from its gated heated swimming pool.

Vue des Alpilles welcomes six guests across its three air-conditioned bedrooms making it ideal for a family holiday or getaway with a small group of friends. The comfortable living area features satellite TV and a music system alongside sofas facing the fireplace with its mantlepiece made out of Provençal stone. The charming kitchen is delightful and opens out to a covered terrace and barbecue or you can dine inside with stunning views towards Les Alpilles.

The ground-floor bedroom features a queen-size double bed and leads to a south-facing terrace not far from the swimming pool, next to a bathroom and office with a sofa-bed. Upstairs there is second double bedroom and a twin, sharing a bathroom, both with panoramic views of the limestone hills.

The gardens are simply glorious with all the sights and scents of Provence. The swimming pool and its stone terrace (with stone sourced from the Luberon) is fully gated/fenced and surrounded by Provençal flowers and summer lavender. As evening approaches, find a quiet spot across the open grounds for an apéritif and soak up the idyllic environment around you.

Set on a hill, it’s just 3km to drive or cycle to the old quarter of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with its galleries, café terraces, Van Gogh art trail and atmospheric Wednesday morning market. Other gems of Les Alpilles include hilltop Eygalières and Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, both around 15 minutes by car.

Elsewhere, enjoy lunch out in Maussane-les-Alpilles, visit the Roman sites and art galleries of Arles, be captivated by the Camargue and fall in love with Avignon with its riverside setting, vibrant markets, wine-bars and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Vue des Alpilles is set on a hill surrounded by summer lavender alongside olive and almond trees with the most glorious views towards Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park.

In a rural setting with other neighbouring residences, the house is 3km from the historic centre of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence – hiring bikes could be a great way to reach the bustling Provençal town if you don’t mind the slight hill on the way back.

Saint-Rémy is a delightful place to spend time whether relaxing on a café terrace in a pretty square, pottering around the little art galleries, following the Van Gogh art trail or dining out in gastronomic restaurants. The Wednesday morning market is the highlight of the week, the perfect chance to stock up on seasonal Provençal produce and soak up the town’s authentic ambience.

Other gems of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park include hilltop Eygalières (13km) with its charming houses and upmarket restaurants and the perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence (13.5km), classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, surrounded by landscapes of olive groves. Try the region’s fine extra virgin olive oil in Maussane-les-Alpilles (14km) or Mouriès (19km), pre-book menu of the day at Le Bistrot du Paradou (14.5km) and follow the windmill walking trail from Fontvieille (20km), passing the iconic Moulin de Daudet.

Further afield, discover more art and history in Arles (27km), perhaps combined with a trip to the wild and captivating Camargue, or spend the day in Avignon (20km) by the banks of the Rhône with its incredible UNESCO World Heritage sites, Le Palais des Papes and Le Pont d’Avignon.
