Come winter or summer, the views towards Lake Annecy are glorious from this wonderful chalet above Saint-Jorioz, just a 10km drive from the beautiful town of Annecy.

Au Sommet sleeps up to 11 guests (10 adults and one child) across the main chalet and its annexe. Step into the spacious open-plan lounge and dining area with its stylish kitchen island and breakfast bar alongside windows sliding open to the balcony with vistas of Lake Annecy. On the mezzanine level above, a stunning master bedroom awaits with a king-size double and striking glass-doored shower.

There are two further doubles (one with an extra single bed) on the lower floor, plus a wellness area with a hammam, spa-bath and fitness equipment. The wine cellar with barrelled tables and bar stools is a charming spot for a glass of wine after a hard day’s exploring.

The separate annexe features a chilled out games lounge and two en suite double bedrooms – this could be a great option for a family seeking a little privacy from the main chalet or perhaps as a hideaway for grandparents!

Outside, as well as a decked terrace for al-fresco dining and an outdoor lounge, the hot tub enjoys views towards the lake. Furthermore, from spring to autumn you can make the most of the heated swimming pool which features a cover in March, April, October and November allowing you to swim in cooler or even rainy weather. As summer arrives, play pétanque in the garden as youngsters adore the little play area with swings and a slide.

There is so much to explore across Lake Annecy and the surrounding mountains. Discover hiking paths and winter skiing around a 20-minute drive away or spend the day soaking up the enchanting ambience of Annecy’s old town, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Alps’, only 10km away by car (or follow the voie verte cycling trail, part of the iconic Lake Annecy cycling loop).

Even closer is the pretty village of Saint-Jorioz with its weekly market, lakeside promenade and sandy beach, great for summer watersports, lake swimming and boat rides. Look out for other historic gems along the coast from Duingt to Talloires, always appreciating the incredible lake and mountain landscapes of this enchanting region of France.

With views of the mountains and Lake Annecy, Au Sommet is located a short drive from the lakeside village of Saint-Jorioz and its picturesque sandy beach. Just a 20-minute drive from the hiking and skiing opportunities around the Semnoz mountain and Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park, this is an ideal choice for both summer and winter breaks.

Saint-Jorioz is home to a handful of restaurants (some overlooking the lake), shops and a supermarket alongside a pretty market on a Thursday morning, a great way to pick up delicious local specialities, especially Savoie cheese. In the summer months, look out for watersports on the lake and boat taxis or enjoy relaxing on the beach, the only sandy one on the lake (access fees apply for some Lake Annecy beaches in the height of the summer).

The Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park and Semnoz (24km) offer wonderful hiking opportunities, para-gliding, summer sledging and winter skiing or venture a little further to Station de la Sambuy (28km) or the Aravis region for a wider choice of skiing pistes including La Clusaz (40km) and Manigod (45km).

Back near the lake, the beautiful town of Annecy (10km) is called the ‘Venice of the Alps’ with its canals, pretty bridges, restaurants, shops and charming markets throughout the year. Visit the 13th century Le Palais de I'Île before enjoying a coffee or ice-cream, then wander over the photogenic Pont Perrière in the heart of the old town. Stroll along the lakeside promenade at Jardins de l’Europe crossing Pont des Amours and admire the incredible lake and mountain vistas.

Another way to explore the lake is to hire bikes and follow the 43km-long voie verte that loops around the lake, mainly car-free following a former railway line. Stop off in picture-perfect lakeside villages such as Talloires and Duingt (approached via an old railway tunnel) and appreciate the most beautiful scenery as you ride.

Region

With stunning Alpine scenery and serene turquoise waters, Lake Annecy is a fine destination throughout the year whether you are visiting for winter skiing in the mountains or summer watersports on the glistening water.

Known as the “Venice of the Alps”, Annecy town is located at the northern tip of the lake. Wander by its charming canals in the medieval town, stroll across the famous Pont Perrière before reaching the lakeside promenade with the most magnificent vistas throughout the year. Wintertime brings enchanting Christmas markets and the town’s ice-rink, then there’s the vibrant Venetian carnival and spring marathon before the weather allows you to make the most of Annecy’s summer café terraces and gorgeous parks.

In the summer months enjoy a range of lakeside activities such as swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding and boat rides, all in spectacular surroundings. Cyclists of all abilities will love the voie verte that loops around the lake again passing breathtaking scenery.

Wherever you stay around the lake, explore pretty villages and lakeside beaches. Pick up regional specialities at Saint-Jorioz’s Thursday morning market, cycle through the old railway tunnel to medieval Duingt, dine in one of Talloires’s highly regarded restaurants and admire the majestic Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard.

Head into the mountains for authentic market towns, farms, incredible hikes and a great range of wintersports. Thônes is the gateway to the Aravis mountain resorts such as La Clusaz and Le Grand-Bornand, both a superb place for skiing in the winter and home to a wealth of alpine activities in the summer. On the other side of the lake, appreciate the beauty of the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park and admire the magnificence of the Semnoz mountain.

Whether relaxing by the lake or venturing into the mountains, experience hearty Savoyard cuisine. The region enjoys a rich culinary heritage – try fondue, raclette and tartiflette in authentic hôtels or fish from the lake accompanied by fine regional wine in high-end restaurants overlooking the idyllic shores.

Families will love this chalet with its heated swimming pool (spring to autumn), games room and little summer play area outside. A range of useful baby/toddler equipment can be requested such as potties, night lights, baby baths etc.

The sandy beach at Saint-Jorioz is just a 4km drive away, the only sandy beach on the lake, alongside summer watersports and boat taxis. Also by the lakeside is the charming Criq’ Parc where children (aged 3-12) can play amongst the shady trees, usually open from April. There are also tennis courts in Saint-Jorioz and you can easily join the 43km-long cycling trail that loops around Lake Annecy, a popular activity for families.

Elsewhere, discover tree-top adventure centres (one near Quintal, another one just outside Talloires) alongside winter skiing, summer sledging and incredible hikes at Semnoz in the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park. Youngsters may also enjoy a visit to Parc Animalier de la Grande Jeanne, a picturesque spot for a picnic surrounded by deer and other animals.
