Location
About the surrounding area of Villa AreteVilla Arete holds a fantastic position above the village of Gouvia, which can be reached in less than 10 minutes' drive. The touristic village of Gouvia offers a variety of restaurants, bars and shops, as well as a pebble beach. In the most northern part, there is a bay with a watersports centre where you can try paddleboarding, water skiing and more.
Further up in the Corfian east coast there are other popular summer resorts, such as Dassia or Barbati Beach, where besides the clearwater beaches you will also find authentic tavernas and charming promenades. The journey to these coastal towns is a joy itself, as the road provides a lovely scenic ocean view. Another local landmark is the grand Achilleion house and gardens, originally built as a summer palace for Empress Elisabeth of Austria with perfectly landscaped gardens and even more impressive architecture.
Although it would be a pity to limit your stay around only one area of the island - Corfu has so much to offer! Corfu Town is a must-visit, having been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is plenty to see and do. The Royal Palace - which has been reconverted to a museum- or its two fortresses will bring you back in time. Even if it's just a stroll around the old town and the Esplanade, the island's capital won't disappoint.

The Island/Getting There
One of the largest and greenest of the Ionian Islands, Corfu is far more than its trademark blue-hued seas and sandy coastline. With its UNESCO World Heritage status and unbeatable strolling opportunities, there is no better place to start exploring than the main town and its historic old quarter, where ancient churches, scattered ruins and a handful of museums mean Corfu’s layers of history can be found just about everywhere. By plane: During April to October, several direct flights arrive to "Ioannis Kapodistrias" Airport from Europe as Corfu is one of the most popular travel destinations in Greece. During these months, the airport also receives many domestic flights every day from Athens and Thessaloniki.
By ferry: Travelling by ferry is the most popular way of transport in Greece. Ferries to Corfu depart from Patra and Igoumenitsa. If you are travelling from Europe, Corfu is easily accessible by ferry from Venice, Bari, Brindisi or Ancona too. Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesCorfu is an excellent destination for family holidays, as it offers an array of children-friendly activities and restaurants. Those staying in Villa Arete will find the amenities here perfectly accommodating. The wide common areas give plenty of space for all guests to play, eat and rest comfortably.
The outdoor area is extensive and features landscaped gardens with natural shade and plenty of space to play and run around. But the best feature is clearly the swimming pool, where children of all ages can spend countless hours splashing around.
Try different water activities in Corfu - the most adventurous will find Corcyra Beach Watersports truly exciting, it offers paddleboarding, boat rides and waterskiing and more. But of course, to see the beauty under the sea, snorkelling and diving are the best activities. The small bays and beaches in the north of the island are the best spots for it - especially around the town of Kassiopi, which also offers a diving school.
