Location
About the surrounding area of Villa CynthiaCorfu is one of the most beautiful, lush green islands in Greece. It enjoys countless beaches, stunning scenery stretching from the crystal clear dazzling sea to the mountains, a fantastic dining scene, historic monuments and fantastic shopping making it a dream destination. Its historic main town is brimming with Venetian architecture and charm.
Villa Cynthia enjoys a very privileged, elevated location on the stunning Kommeno peninsula with glorious views over the bay. The villa is within walking distance of the village with its shops, bars and restaurants. The secluded Kommeno Bay is halfway up of Corfu’s eastern Ionian coast, just 20 minutes from the bustling, cosmopolitan Corfu Town. The quiet private roads on the peninsula give you a feeling of remoteness and calm. The vibrant beach bars of Dassia and Gouvia’s 18th century Venetian architecture are also within easy reach of the villa. The Kommeno peninsula boasts some of the most coveted shoreline in Corfu.
Gouvia is a charming resort, a former fishing village which is now a modern holiday resort with plenty of amenities for all ages. It boasts a pretty pebble beach and a stunning, vibrant marina. It boasts many atmospheric restaurants, bars and cafes along the main street. Its 18th century shipyard is still remarkably intact and a popular attraction. The views from Gouvia are really stunning with the glistening Ionian Sea and Corfu Town on the horizon.
The captivating Corfu Town, the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh, is one of the most beautiful, graceful and elegant towns in Greece. Corfu Town sits between two great Venetian coastal fortresses and within lies a very modern capital brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares and no fewer than thirty nine churches including the beautiful Church of Saint Spiridon. The town’s stunning architecture enjoys Sicilian, Venetian, French and English influence. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a tightly-packed warren of cobbled winding lanes bursting with lively bars, boutiques and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching out from balcony to balcony and colourful bougainvillea draped everywhere. There are some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th century church. The Duke of Edinburgh was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens you will find the calm waters of the Mon Repos Beach. To the north, you will find the popular Faliraki Beach.
The picturesque resort of Kassiopi is located in the lively north eastern corner of Corfu. With the dramatic Mount Pantokrator standing proud over the resort and with a stunning harbour, this once quiet fishing village is very popular and very pretty. It enjoys charming narrow streets overlooked by the ruins of an ancient Byzantine castle and breathtaking views out to sea towards the Albanian coast. There is a gorgeous walk you can take around the headland.

Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Cynthia is ideal for a family holiday. There is so much space, a fantastic infinity swimming pool and wonderful garden. Guests can walk to the beach or village amenities in a few minutes.
Families enjoy endless entertainment on the island of Corfu. There are many beaches to choose from, including hidden, tranquil coves and magnificent, highly organised stretches of sand with a huge array of watersports. Some of the best east coast beaches besides those on Kommeno are Barbati, Agios Ioannis Peristeron, Perama, Dassia, Ipsos, Agni, Kouloura and Kalami. On the North coast, Kassiopi, Acharavi and Roda beaches are very popular.
Kalami is the village where Lawrence Durrell lived in the 1930’s. It is now a small resort with several tavernas including the White House, where the Durrells lived. Many have watched the television programmes and are keen to check it out.
Aqualand, Corfu’s water park is fantastic for children seeking some fun and thrills. It offers a wonderful combination of fun, relaxation and adrenaline. The park caters for all ages and boasts a 350 metre long lazy river, a wave pool, an interactive pool with a rope course and jacuzzi, kayaking, family rafting and extreme slides such as the Double Twister, Catapult, the 12 metre high Kamikaze slides and the Hurricane Twist. In total there are 51 attractions to enjoy. For the very young ones there is a baby pool, a pirate area and a kids fantasy island. You can buy a half day pass, a full day pass, a two day pass or a weekly one. Children might fancy the park every day but the island has so much else to see.
In Corfu Town, children enjoy climbing the walls of the Old Fortress, the Venetian fort built in the 15th century and the New Fortress. They sit at either ends of the town. The fortresses boast fantastic sea views. Also in Corfu Town, you can take a trip in Kalypso Star, the glass-bottomed boat that leaves the harbour to explore the Ionian Sea’s fascinating marine life. A ten minute boat trip from Corfu Town takes you to the tiny island of Vidos where you can enjoy feeding the rabbits, seeing the peacocks, swimming and having lunch at the charming taverna.
For a completely different day out, you can head to the dramatic Mount Pantokrator. It is the highest peak in Corfu and dominates the island’s northeast region. It boasts the most amazing views of the whole of Corfu Island. On a clear day you can even see Albania and Italy even though Italy is 130km away! You can drive or hike to the mountain top, stopping at traditional Greek villages on the way.
The mountain road starts halfway between Ipsos and Barbati Beach passing through Spartilas and Strinilas, one of the island’s highest villages. You can enjoy delicious local moscato wine or non alcoholic drinks for children from one of the village’s taverns. If you want to hike to the top, you can start at the 14th century village of Old Perithia. It is a three hour round trip through thick forests, olive groves and rocky terrain. At the top you can visit the 17th century monastery.
