Location
About the surrounding area of Villa ElectraVilla Electra enjoys a fabulous elevated spot in the hills above Gouvia. The villa enjoys astonishing panoramic views down to Gouvia’s marina, the deep blue sea and over to Corfu Town.
Corfu is one of the most beautiful, lush green islands of Greece. With countless beaches, endless olive groves, hundreds of churches, mystical caves, stunning scenery stretching from the crystal clear dazzling sea to the mountains and delicious cuisine, it is a dream destination. Together with excellent shopping and a historic main town brimming with Venetian architecture and charm, it has something for everyone. The island’s fauna and flora is world famous due to the Durrell family and especially since the TV series. The Durrell house is within easy reach of Villa Electra.
Gouvia is a chic resort with a history. In the 17th century, Gouvia was a Venetian naval base and the original grand arches of the shipyard are still intact. Now though, its smart marina offers sophisticated waterfront credentials with lively bars, trendy restaurants and boutique shops together with plenty of traditional Greek tavernas for meze and other delicious feasts. Gouvia enjoys several beaches, some of which are pebbly. The central beach offers some excellent watersports including jet skis and banana boats. From the beach you can see the pretty Ipanpanti Church jutting out in the village of Kommeno. It is a twelve minute walk away.
Gouvia sits in the same sheltered bay as the neighbouring village of Kontokali. Kontokali also boasts a delightful marina and a fabulous sand and pebble beach. You will taste the freshest of fish at Kontokali, a popular spot for fishermen for generations. Being so close to Gouvia, you enjoy a double helping of superb beaches, one special one set on the headland that keeps Kontokali Bay tucked away from the Ionian Sea.
Corfu Town or Kerkyra as it is otherwise known, is one of the most beautiful, graceful and elegant towns in Greece. Though seventh in size, it is one of the most populated in the whole of the Ionian Islands. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. Corfu Town is brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares, no fewer than thirty nine churches and majestic fortresses. You should not miss the Church of Saint Spiridon and the Liston, a French built arcade with an arched terrace that was inspired by the Rue de Rivoli in Paris where you can dine in an elegant café. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly packed warren of winding lanes bursting with lively bars, unique shops and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony. It is a beautiful sight. Many of the town’s characterful buildings are adorned with colourful bougainvillea.
The beautiful, atmospheric resort of Kassiopi is located in the lively north eastern corner of Corfu, cradled by the dramatic Mount Pantokrator which overlooks the resort. It enjoys a stunning harbour and charming narrow streets overlooked by the ruins of an ancient Byzantine castle. Visitors enjoy breathtaking views out to sea towards the Albanian coast. There is a gorgeous walk you can take around the headland.

How to reach Corfu island
There are two ways to get to Corfu island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: During April to October, several direct flights arrive to "Ioannis Kapodistrias" Airport from Europe as Corfu is one of the most popular travel destinations in Greece. During these months, the airport also receives many domestic flights every day from Athens and Thessaloniki.
By ferry: Travelling by ferry is the most popular way of transport in Greece. Ferries to Corfu depart from Patra and Igoumenitsa. If you are travelling from Europe, Corfu is easily accessible by ferry from Venice, Bari, Brindisi or Ancona too. Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Electra is perfect for large family groups. Many of the bedrooms come with an extra bed so this is helpful in increasing the numbers. Two of the bedrooms are in a separate annex so these are not ideal for young children. The villa is absolutely gorgeous with plenty of living space and lots of treats. There is a pool table on the first floor and table tennis outside for some friendly competition.
Family entertainment on Corfu is endless. There are many beaches to choose from, from hidden, quiet coves to magnificent, highly organised stretches of sand with a huge array of watersports. Some of the best East coast beaches besides Kontokali and Gouvia are Agios Ioannis Peristeron, Perama, Dassia, Ipsos, Agni, Kouloura and Kalami. Kalami is the village where Lawrence Durrell lived in the 1930’s. It is now a small resort with several tavernas including the White House, where the Durrells lived. On the North coast, Kassiopi, Acharavi and Roda are very popular.
Children love Aqualand, Corfu’s water park. It is just the place for a thrilling day out. The park caters for all ages and boasts a lazy river, wave pool, kayaking, rafting and extreme slides such as the Double Twister, Kamikaze and the Hurricane Twist.
For a completely different, non-water based day you could head to the majestic Mount Pantokrator. It is the highest peak in Corfu and a popular pilgrim spot. It boasts the most amazing views of the whole of Corfu Island. On a clear day you can even see Albania and Italy even though Italy is 130km away!
In Corfu Town, children enjoy climbing the walls of the Old Fortress, the Venetian fort built in the 15th century and the New Fortress. The fortresses boast fantastic views of the turquoise waters. Also in Corfu Town, you can take a trip in Kalypso Star, the glass-bottomed boat that leaves the harbour to explore the Ionian Sea’s fascinating marine life. A ten-minute boat trip from Corfu Town takes you to the tiny island of Vidos where you can enjoy feeding the rabbits, seeing the peacocks, swimming and having lunch at the charming taverna.
