With room for up to 8 adults and 2 children, this beautiful villa has a private entrance to the beach and its own beach gazebo for dining and relaxing.

Located on an attractive private estate filled with olive trees, Villa Zo offers an incredible island experience. The villa’s outdoor spaces are truly special, incorporating a large swimming pool and cypress wood pool house with seating area, dining tables and plenty of sun loungers. There couldn’t be a more pleasant space to spend your evenings together, or to soak up the sun during the day. A few steps away, the beach enjoys a beautiful view of the coast and has a covered seating area and sunbeds just for you.

Inside, you’ll find an open-plan living and dining area, along with a kitchen equipped with a dishwasher, Nespresso machine, microwave and a host of other appliances, large and small. The décor is soothing, with harmonious white and earth tones adding to the villa’s relaxed feel.

The four bedrooms give you lots of flexibility, and each benefits from its own private bathroom. On the ground floor, you have a master bedroom with private patio, and two guest rooms – one a double and one a twin. On the first floor, there is another master bedroom with balcony, along with a mezzanine guest area which can accommodate two children in twin beds and is accessed via one of the ground floor guest rooms.

Within a 10-minute drive, Lefkimmi is a charming small town where you can access useful amenities including a supermarket, bank and post office. There are cafés and restaurants to try, and several more beaches are a few minutes away.

Corfu Town, the capital of the island, is just under one hour’s drive from Lefkimmi, and also accessible via bus or boat. The town may surprise with its mix of Italian, French and British influences, evident in the grand Spianada Square and the chic covered terrace of the Liston.

In southern Corfu, Lefkimmi retains a traditional, small town feel. Not a place for nightlife or tourist attractions, Lefkimmi shows an authentic side of island life. A small river runs through the town which offers restaurants, cafés and useful amenities for the visitors staying in the area. While Lefkimmi lies inland, it’s only about 2km from several beaches, such as Bouka and Alikes.

You can take a bus from Lefkimmi to the capital, Corfu Town, and it’s one not to miss. Full of surprises, this richly historic town punches above its weight when it comes to cultural attractions and landmark sights.

A nod to a period of British rule, the 19th-century Palace of St Michael and St George is a Neoclassical mansion originally built as the residence of the British High Commissioner. It’s now the location of Corfu’s excellent Museum of Asian Art. With impressive collections of Japanese, Chinese, central and south east Asian art, it holds around 15,000 pieces. You can also tour the palace itself, which is one of the highlights of the town.

Another is the magnificent Spianada Square, which acts as a logical meeting place for locals. With its landscaped gardens, water features and bandstand, it feels more British than Greek – it even has a cricket pitch. All this is explained by a near 50-year period when Corfu was under British rule. Cricket isn’t big elsewhere in Greece, but on Corfu it’s a different story. Next to the Spianada is the French built covered gallery, the Liston. It’s now lined with cafés which make going out for a coffee in Corfu a very chichi affair.

You will find numerous churches around the town, the most famous being Saint Spyridon’s Church with its distinctive red dome. It’s here that the island’s patron saint was laid to rest. Many house interesting pieces of art, among them the 11th-century Byzantine Church of St Jason & St Sosipater.
Other cultural highlights in town include the Municipal Gallery and the Archaeological Museum, with exhibits from the prehistoric to Roman period.

Be sure to visit either the Old Fortress or New Fortress for a wonderful view over the area. The latter is only comparatively new – it dates back to the 15th century. The former is now home to a university music department, so if you listen carefully you may be able to hear its students playing as you tackle the considerable climb to the summit. When you return, be sure to spend some time wandering through the evocative streets of the town’s medieval centre, the Campiello, and see why it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Island/Getting There

One of the largest and greenest of the Ionian Islands, Corfu is far more than its trademark blue-hued seas and sandy coastline. With its UNESCO World Heritage status and unbeatable strolling opportunities, there is no better place to start exploring than the main town and its historic old quarter, where ancient churches, scattered ruins and a handful of museums mean Corfu’s layers of history can be found just about everywhere. And if you’re in need of a cosy abode, take a look at our flawless villas in Corfu.

How to reach Corfu island

There are two ways to get to Corfu island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: During April to October, several direct flights arrive to "Ioannis Kapodistrias" Airport from Europe as Corfu is one of the most popular travel destinations in Greece. During these months, the airport also receives many domestic flights every day from Athens and Thessaloniki.

By ferry: Travelling by ferry is the most popular way of transport in Greece. Ferries to Corfu depart from Patra and Igoumenitsa. If you are travelling from Europe, Corfu is easily accessible by ferry from Venice, Bari, Brindisi or Ancona too. You can easily book your tickets using the link below or the search engine - the port you are looking for is "TBC".

Young visitors will love Villa Zo – there’s so much outdoor space, and the magnificent pool is perfect for a morning swim. With the beach right at the end of the garden, those wonderful white sands could hardly be closer, and there’s plenty to entertain them inside as well.

Corfu is great for families too. You are sure to be impressed by the Aqualand water park – one of the biggest around with a never-ending array of slides, pools and games. From the Black Hole to the Catapult and Tornado, you know you’re going to be in for an action-packed time, although there are also some more gentle bits like Lazy River.

Still on the watery theme, the resort of Palaiokastritsa on the west coast is home to the Corfu Aquarium. There are all sorts of sea creatures to meet, and even reptiles and snakes, at this popular attraction on Agios Petros beach. If you fancy going sailing or on a boat trip around the islands, there are many opportunities to do so. The glass-bottomed boat tours which depart from the Old Port in Corfu Town are a lot of fun, giving everyone a chance to see wildlife that usually only divers encounter.

When you’re in Corfu Town, be sure to visit the grand café terrace at the Liston, possibly the most famous street in town. Anyone will feel fancy dining under its elegant arches, which overlook the equally elegant Spianada. You may even catch an in-progress cricket match or some live entertainment in the park.

The town has lots of museums, with the Museum of Asian Art particularly impressive. Another is Casa Parlante, which depicts the life of a 19th-century noble family in Corfu, and even recreates the sounds and smells. An immersive experience that kids should enjoy, it’s located close to the Spianata and the Liston.

Another exciting excursion is the boat trip to Mouse Island, which leaves from the Kanoni area of Corfu, about 2km from the centre of town. This is a particularly photogenic spot which draws a lot of visitors, and it is so called because it apparently looks like a mouse from above. It’s only a 5-minute trip over to the island, where you will find a small church. You can also get a good view of the island from the top of the hill in Kanoni.

Back in Corfu Town, why not get to know the local cuisine together on a food tour? The island has lots of unique dishes like pastitsada – or Corfu chicken – and you shouldn’t visit the island without trying it.
