Location
About the surrounding area of Villa ArmenoiOffering stunning views over the Souda Bay and the twinkling sea, Villa Armenoi is a luxurious villa in the heart of Crete, just 1km from the village of Tsivaras, near Chania, in an ideal location for a calm break in the heart of nature!
Just a 6-minute drive away are the beaches and bars of Kera, Almyrida and Kalives, where you can relax, work on your tan and enjoy the beauty of the north coast of Crete! Take the scenic route through winding country roads and olive groves and head out to the traditional coffee houses of Douliana.
Just 25km away is Chania, the capital of Crete and one of the most famous towns of the Greek islands, particularly for its authentic culture and character and historic structures, including its beautiful Venetian Harbour. It is an incredibly well-preserved Venetian town with all kinds of Medieval architecture, framing a bustling metropolis of museums, churches, narrow shopping streets, waterfront restaurants and crafts shops. Alongside the stunning coastal areas and mountainous landscapes are an array of outstanding remains and glorious buildings of an ancient era, including a picturesque harbourfront and impressive Venetian lighthouse.
Chania is also the perfect location to try all kinds of local cuisine, wine and traditional feasts. For educational and historical adventures, you can visit the Maritime Museum and the Archaeological Museum or take a trip to one of the many surrounding monasteries or historical sites including the Samaria Gorge, Venizelos Graves or the unique architectural complex of Tabakaria.
To the north of the island, very nearby the villa, are some of the larger beaches, and to the south are the more secluded and traditional beaches, punctuated by small seaside villages, and of course, there are thousands of deserted coves and isolated bays for private enjoyment, if you look hard enough! For a perfect day trip across the island, the West Coast beaches of soft sand and coloured pebbles, such as Falasarna, are around 70km away from Villa Aeolus, and the South Coast beaches with beautiful crystal-clear waters, including Sougia, are about 80km away.

How to reach Chania
There are two ways to reach Chania: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: Chania Airport (CHQ) is only a 20 minutes ride away from central Chania. During the summer months, frequents overseas and domestic flights are performed. In most of the cases, there are available buses that connect Chania city and most of the villas. You can also hire a car from one of the many rental companies at the airport, or alternatively get a taxi to bring you right to your doorstep.
By ferry: If you choose to do an island-hopping trip and use the ferry as a method of transportation, then the closest port is in Souda, only 8km from the centre of Chania. Only ferries from Piraeus in Athens or Heraklion in Crete. Heraklion port has a wider choice: you can also take a ferry from other Greek islands like Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, but you will have to take a longer bus ride to reach your villa. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Owner Profile
How long have you owned the property?
I bought the land in 2015 and completed the build in 2019.
What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?
It was the land and location that I first fell in love with. I had spent years looking for the perfect spot, but everything seemed to be a compromise and come up short. I knew within 30 seconds of standing on the land that this was it. Elevated location, 360 views of the sea and mountains, totally private yet only six minutes to the beaches, greenery all around interrupted in places by the terracotta rooftops of sleepy villages. And the smell…the wild thyme, oregano and rosemary was almost overpowering.
Are there any interesting stories in its history?
The land around Villa Armenoi is known locally as “the land of the oaks”, due to its density of oak trees. Local lore tells of the land being a favoured hide out for Cretan resistance fighters during the Ottoman occupation, given its natural camouflage and excellent views of the surrounding area.
Have you ever had any famous guests staying?
All our guest are famous…
For anyone coming to stay is there anything in the surrounding area they should...
Really do?
A jeep safari into the high White Mountains (snow covered into June) followed by a walk down the Samaria Gorge (Europe’s longest gorge), takes you from peaks over 2500 meters down to the shores of the azure blue Libyan Sea.
If you are here for a couple of weeks, consider joining an entry level scuba diving course in Almyrida, which culminates in a boat trip to the astonishing Elephant Cave - an underwater cave discovered in 1999 containing the remains of Europe’s only indigenous elephant.
Really eat?
Follow in the footsteps of Gordon Ramsay and experience the exquisite bougatsa from Iordanis in Chania. Generations of the same family have been serving this Cretan delicacy in the same shop since 1922.
Tucked away in Kalives you will find Mythos Taverna ran by three brothers; one the shepherd, one the butcher and one the chef - amazing locally sourced food at ridiculously affordable prices.
Really see?
Loutro; a uniquely characterful village on the south coast, which can only be accessed by boat.
Chania Old Town; a maze of cobbled side streets, lined by old stone Venetian and Ottoman houses now sympathetically converted in to eateries of every kind, built around the old harbour complete with its ancient lighthouse.
What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?
Views from the main roof terrace are simply breathtaking. Make a point of being there to experience the incredible Cretan sunrise and again after dark to see the most stunning star-studded sky.

Definitely Recommend!
We had a lovely holiday at Villa Armenoi. The Villa is located in a peaceful rural location with a fabulous 360 view. The villa itself is bright and contemporary with large grounds and plenty of outside spaces to choose from. Ian and Annie went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and we would definitely recommend this villa.

Perfection on every level
From the roof terrace to the hidden patios tucked away..this villa really is perfection on every level. The villa reeks of luxury and all items are of top quality. Comfortable interiors with fresh and clean linen, beautifully equipped kitchen (with sharp knives!) this place is a real gem, to the point that we didn’t want to write this review because we would like to keep Villa Armenoi to ourselves as a hidden secret. Ian and Annie were superb hosts and couldn’t do enough to make our stay wonderful.

Villa Armenoi
Beautifully presented and surrounded by fantastic views of the sea to the north and the mountains in the south, Villa Armenoi was the perfect location for a much needed break. The property is immaculate and cleverly furnished; allowing you to relax in comfort at any hour of the day or night. The pool area is great for daytime lounging and in the late afternoon the roof terrace allows you to continue enjoying the sun as it begins to dip behind the hills to the West. We really enjoyed our stay and Ian and Annie could not have been more helpful and kind throughout.

Would Love To Return
If you want complete peace of mind in a luxurious villa among lavender and olive trees than this is the place for you! We stayed here with our two grown-up daughters who loved the roof terrace, the infinity pool, the state-of the-art kitchen and the widescreen TV. The views over Souda Bay were simply stunning as were the surrounding villages. We particularly enjoyed Almyrida with its fish tavernas and lively beach.
The owners went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our holiday, while we were given a warm welcome by the housekeeper who made sure we familiarised ourselves with the villa on arrival.
You will definitely need a car to reach this hilltop villa but its remoteness is part of its charm ... and your neighbours are some very friendly sheep!
Would love to return! Can't recommend highly enough.

Fantastic Villa, Great Family Break
Thanks to the A and I for building such a beautiful villa in the Chania district, not far from Kalyves. The villa had everything we could have wished for, lovely bedrooms, great kitchen and dining area, and even better a " cool" outdoor area. Amenities were great. The pool was a good size, and the kids almost lived in there. The villa is very modern, chic and still makes you feel at home. We loved the different outdoor areas, including the roof terrace , the sun lounges and the pétanque court. The villa manager was great and the maintenance of the garden and pool were done regularly. We enjoyed the gym equipment. One of the best part of the villa was the amazing views of the mountains, the sea and the greenery. The sunrise and sunsets were perfect, and we also got a lovely breeze. You cannot see any other villas from the property ,which makes it feel very private and relaxed. The road to get to the villa are pretty bumpy and we were glad we had hired an old car ) Also, you are dependent on using the car everywhere, particularly in the summer. We had some great outings to Chania, Elafonissi, Loutro, some local villages and Almyrida. Warmly recommended !

Paradise!
Paradise found! We stopped at Villa Armenoi for a glorious week at the beginning of June 2019. Set in private, gated grounds on the crest of a hill, the villa offers breathtaking 360 views to the sea, the mountains and the Apokoronas villages. Location-wise, we were a 6 min drive to Almyrida beach and a bit less to the beaches at Kera and Kalives. Airport was around 30 mins. Lovely 15 min evening walk to the tavernas in Douliana. 33 degrees by the large pool, but the villa was wonderfully cool with its vaulted, cedar ceilings, underfloor and fan-coil cooling (a very pleasant and noticeably different atmosphere from the irritating dryness of air-conditioning). Magical evenings at Villa Armenoi under star-studded skies with the scent of lavender, rosemary and thyme drifting in from the gardens on the gentle north-south breeze. Understand the owners are laying a large lawn area to the front of the villa, which will make a great place for the kids to play in the shade of oak and carob trees.
Beautifully appointed Siemens kitchen got my wife quite jealous…never got chance to use the summer kitchen. Beds and bedrooms sumptuous - kids loved the spa-jet showers - couldn’t get them out…
Been on more than a few villa holidays over the years - Villa Armenoi was the truly stand out experience - we’ve already booked for next year :)

Extraordinary
I want to die if paradise is like this! Hanging in the middle of the countryside and the hills of Crete, we spent, as a family, an extraordinary week, a stone's throw from charming villages where we had our dinners each evening (beautifully rich and varied cuisine at unbeatable prices). The 3 bedroom villa is decorated with refinement and simplicity; everything is there to spend a dream vacation. The pool is where we spent the most time; breathtaking views of the countryside and the sea. The owners came to welcome us and explain the house and its surroundings to us. We can't wait to come back in October 2020.
