Overview

Pool Villa/House Modern
Great Value
Self-Catered Ideal for Kids Walk to Village Parking Space

Villa Silver Olive is overflowing with rustic charm, nestled in the countryside near the north coast of Crete, one of the largest Greek islands, set in the Aegean Sea. This beautiful property has been lovingly restored by the descendants of the original owners, who have retained many of the unique characteristics that make this villa so special.

Villa Silver Olive is a property of two parts, with two private entrance self-contained apartments, joined by a communal courtyard, with a centrepiece swimming pool. The villa has three spacious double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to seven guests, ideal for a large family holiday, two small families sharing, or a friends’ get-together. The property comes with off-street parking, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout, ceiling fans, and smart televisions in all the rooms. The villa is built out of local stone, with cool stone floor tiling, and floor-to-ceiling doors, that open out onto garden-view terraces and balconies.

The interiors still have the authentic architectural curved ceilings, and the traditional parasia fireplace, which once heated the whole home, and cooked the food, is in-situ from when the house was first built. The décor is decidedly contemporary, the furniture is natural wood, the linen is the finest, the lighting atmospheric, and the colour palette is one of subtle soft whites with elegant earth tones. The ambience is one of a relaxing home-from-home, beach house-style, cosy cottage in the country.

Enter the villa through the main entrance into the communal courtyard, where you will find two separate apartments. On the ground floor of the first apartment is an open plan living space decorated with lots of family-owned artefacts, with a single sofa bed, an open fireplace, a smart television, a dining set, and a small, yet fully-equipped kitchen. There is a beautifully-appointed bedroom, with a super king-size bed, open wardrobes, an in-built corner seating area, a flat-screen television, a dressing table desk, and an ensuite shower room, with a hand basin, and WC. Take the stairs to the first floor, where there is a second seating spot, with floor-to-ceiling windows, which open onto a furnished garden view balcony, the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee. There is an exquisitely dressed bedroom with a king-size bed, fitted wardrobes, a TV, a dressing table desk, and a thoroughly modern bathroom, with a walk-in rain shower and hand basin. A separate loo completes this accommodation.

Across the courtyard access the second apartment, which has a ground floor open plan living space, with a sofa, smart TV, dining table, small kitchen, and a shower room with a WC. On the first floor, there is a bedroom with a double bed, open wardrobes, and a flat-screen television. The communal courtyard is captivating, with a step-entry swimming pool, that is surrounded by curved sun loungers, and shady silver olive trees.

There’s an outdoor workstation, and a selection of books and games to keep both children and adults amused. A built-in, pergola-covered, soft seating area is ideal for meeting as dusk falls, for sundowner cocktails on the terrace. There is a ten-seater dining set, where you can feast alfresco with dishes freshly cooked on the barbeque and wood oven, as the Cretan stars come out to shine.

Villa Silver Oliver can be found nestled in the Cretan countryside, just two kilometres from the north coast of the Greek island of Crete, in the Aegean Sea. The villa is a seventy three-kilometre drive from Chania International Airport, passing avocado, orange, and olive groves, to your holiday home. The villa is near the small village of Armenoi, where you will find local shops for provisions to cater for your holiday, family-run bars and tavernas.

A ten-kilometre drive will take you to the old town of Rethymno, with its Venetian harbour, winding streets full of souvenir shops, a sixteenth-century citadel, Archaeological and Folklore Museums, and an 1830s lighthouse. The medieval town of Chania is only a twenty minute drive from the villa. Stroll down to the old port and harbour, visit the Maritime and Archeological Museums, seek solace in the Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Nikolaos, bargain in the local market, and then dine off freshly caught seafood by the seashore. For those who love hiking, there’s the famous Samaria Gorge, the most walked trail in Greece. Explore the island’s three hundred caves, and hike over hillsides, streams, and rocky ravines to discover watermills and ruins. All aboard a boat trip, where you can snorkel or scuba dive to underwater ruins, or jet skis or paraglide at one of the many water sports clubs.

A drive along the scenic coastal route will take you to the town and port of Heraklion. Take a tour around the ancient Palace of Knossos, visit the Archaeological Museum, and walk along the Venetian walls to the old quarter, where you can shop for souvenirs. Go further afield to Vai, Crete’s easternmost tip, where you will find lush forests and a unique date palm. Explore Psychro Cave, reputedly the birthplace of Zeus, and rock climb Mount Ida to find the Ideon Cave. Sitia Geopark is three hundred and fifty square kilometres of the island’s diverse ecosystem, where you can trek through gorges, bathe on beaches, walk the wetlands, and bird watching. Hike the Richtis Gorge, and stroll through streams to reach the twenty-metre waterfall, where you can cool off in the inviting pool. Find solace in the fifteenth-century Toplou Monastery, where you can see beautiful Byzantine icons.

Take a boat tour to visit the intriguing island of Spinalonga, once a former leper colony and home to a Venetian fortress, it is now an open-air museum. Visit Agios Nikolaos, a harbour town that uniquely houses a lake in its centre, and is home to an Archaeological Museum, full of Minoan treasures. Stroll its charming streets packed with shops, cafes, bars, and tavernas, in which to sit and watch the local life go by. Unwind with a wine-tasting tour, and don’t forget to take a bottle or two home with you.

Region

On the northern coast of Crete, Rethymno is a beautifully preserved medieval town in Greece with such a rich heritage and exquisite Venetian mansions.

The old town is simply enchanting. Fall in love as you wander along flower-filled lanes with architecture from the Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman Empire eras. Shop to your heart’s delight admiring local crafts, jewellery, clothes and souvenirs, then cool off with a drink in a café on a pretty square lined with olive trees.

Take time to explore the Venetian fortress overlooking the old town, admire the 17th century Rimondi fountain with its flowing water, walk up to the 19th century lighthouse, then stroll along the Venetian harbourfront where seafood specialities and other Cretan dishes are served in such a picturesque setting.

The 12km long blue-flagged city beach is a hive of activity in the summer months with watersports, sun beds, parasols, beachside bars and restaurants. Discover more remote shores a short drive from Rethymno such as Petres and Kamari Beach, both much-loved by keen snorkellers, or the iconic small bay at Spilies Beach with turquoise coloured sea.

Embrace the authenticity of Sfakaki, a charming seaside village only 10km from Rethymno with an idyllic beach that sometimes attracts loggerhead turtles in the summer. Pass eucalyptus trees, olive trees and wild herbs until you reach Monastery of Saint George (Arsaniou) for a peaceful experience overlooking the sea. Further south, the Arkadi Gorge is in an incredible area for hiking, ending at the stunning Monastery of Arkadi.

Meanwhile, appreciate more wild landscapes a short distance from Rethymno as well as ancient Cretan villages. Climb the pathways of the incredible Melidoni Cave, especially welcome in the heat of the summer, or venture to Mili Gorge with its ancient mills, little waterfalls and rare flora. The old village of Margarites is famed for its Byzantine churches, Venetian houses and, since the Ottoman empire, pottery production – it makes a lovely day out only half an hour from town life in Rethymno.

  • Amazing!

Where do I even begin… this place is PARADISE! We absolutely loved our stay in this house. It’s very well built with amazing quality. Everything from blankets and furniture to light fixtures and electrical is of great quality. You will not regret staying here!

  • Definitely Recommend!

    on 06/04/2022

We had a great time at this Villa and both Katerina and Nikol were amazing hosts! Communication from both was perfect and very helpful. We loved the property, it was beautiful and had everything we needed to enjoy a long stay. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds themselves are super comfy. The outside area is beautiful, perfect place to relax. The locals were very nice and welcoming too! They gave us homemade bread, cake and biscuits.

The village is super close and includes a pharmacy, restaurants, hairdresser and a supermarket which the owner is lovely and very helpful. Rethymno isn't far either and has everything available to enjoy your time away in Crete.

Would definitely recommend and visit again!
