The serene and gorgeous Villa Basileus is nestled on the hillside close to the fabulous Elia Beach on the cosmopolitan party island of Mykonos, a whitewashed paradise in the heart of the Cyclades. The villa is just 10km from Mykonos town and 3km from the stunning village of Ano Mera, the home of the beautifully restored, 16th century Panagia Tourliani Monastery.
Though Mykonos is ultra-popular with rich and famous partygoers, there is much more to this stunning island. It is profoundly beautiful, teeming with sugar-cube chalk-white buildings accentuated with vibrant blue doors and shutters, history and culture, picturesque windmills, boutique hotels, dazzling colourful flowers and stunning beaches. It is progressive with gay and nude beaches. Despite being commonly held to be one of the most expensive and exclusive Greek islands, Mykonos holds enduring appeal.
Villa Basileus is elegant and stylish with excellent, minimalist design. It sleeps 7 guests in 4 bedrooms. The villa prides itself on its soft environmental footprint. The decor is mainly white but with the focus on texture and intermittent, stunning architectural features. It is incredibly well designed, making the most of picture-postcard framed views.
The open plan living, dining and kitchen area on the ground floor is exquisite with fabulous furnishings, extraordinary light features and a stunning kitchen. The floating breakfast bar catches the eye and is just one feature that makes this fantastic villa special. The lounge windows frame the fantastic, brilliant blue sea and sky views which contrast vividly with the chalk-white walls. One of the stunning, immaculate bathrooms is on the ground floor.
On the lower level there is a ravishing, contemporary master bedroom with a kingsize bed and gorgeous ensuite bathroom. There are two further immaculate double rooms, one with a double bed and another with twins. There is also a simple yet elegant single room with a single bed though no windows. These sensational bedrooms share a delightful, modern bathroom. There is a small kitchenette on the lower level as well as a fun, shaded playground for children up to the age of 8.
Villa Basileus’ terrace is spectacular. Elegant, stylish and serene, it boasts a superb swimming pool, sun loungers, trendy outdoor furniture under a canopy and covered alfresco dining with an excellent barbecue. The blend of stark white walls and pebbles, warm stone walls and gorgeous blue and greens from the hillside and sea is sensational on the eye.
The villa offers daily cleaning and change of linen every two days. Extra services can be provided for a supplement including professional chefs, dry cleaning, transfers by luxury minibus or executive car, nanny services, yacht rental or even helicopter tours. You are guaranteed to enjoy a holiday to remember at Villa Basileus.
What you should know…
- The smallest bedroom does not have any windows and is simple and minimal in design so you may want to use this for a child
- Mykonos is known as the windy island, so be prepared.
- You can walk down to Elia beach but the walk uphill is somewhat more of an effort, especially in the heat. Nominate a driver to come and get you.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa BasileusMykonos is talked about in the same breathy terms as Ibiza or Miami. It has been popular with A-list celebrities since the Fifties and Sixties when stars such as Brigitte Bardot and Jackie Onassis understood its attractions. It is upmarket, stunningly beautiful and offers chic hospitality. It is a party lover’s paradise, but it is also a whitewashed, glimmering Grecian gem waiting to be explored. There are stunning beaches, glamorous beach clubs, swanky restaurants, lush hillsides and azure waters.
Villa Basileus is situated on the hillside above the beautiful, idyllic Elia Beach. The beach is gorgeous with silvery-white sand, Mykonos’ longest sweep of sand and popular with families. The rainbow flag at the end of the beach marks this as an LGBT friendly stretch of sand. Platys Gialos Beach is 5km southeast of Mykonos Town and is wide and beautiful with many restaurants and bars. You can catch water taxis from Elia Beach to 7 other beaches. Other popular beaches are Psarou Beach, Paraga Beach, Paradise Beach which is the famous party beach with bars spilling out into the sand and dominated by eponymous clubs, Super Paradise Beach and Agios Ioannis Beach. There are 25 beaches in total! Platys Gialos and Kalafatis are particularly good for water sports.
Ano Mera is very pretty. You can meander through the delightful streets and get a feel for how people lived before the tourist boom. The Panagia Tourlaina and Paleokastro Monasteries are centuries old and definitely worth a visit. There are a few Tavernas around the village square as well as a supermarket, chemist etc.
After the beaches, Mykonos Town or Hora as it is known, is the second-biggest attraction of the island. The enchanting warren of narrow lanes, bedecked with colourful bougainvillaea and lined with picturesque churches, charming restaurants, quirky art galleries and chic boutiques, is somewhere you can meander for hours. There are interesting museums, including the Archaeological Museum and the Aegean Maritime Museum. Hora is a shoppers paradise with casual fashion, souvenirs and jewellery being sold in Little Venice, Greek designers on Matogliani and fantastic art in Mavrogenous Street. The open-air cinema is another delight of Hora.

Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Basileus is perfect for a family holiday. The pool and terrace are fabulous. Children will love the playroom on the lower ground floor. It is such fun for young children.
The highlight of a holiday on Mykonos will be the family beach days. Elia Beach is fantastic for families with its long stretch of silvery sand. There are plenty of watersports on offer. Kalafatis also offers a fantastic range of watersports, as does Platys Gialos. You can take many boat trips, in cataramans, ribs or glass-bottom boats. You can also explore the coastline in kayaks. GoDive Mykonos PADI Diving Resort is just one of the dive schools offering mini-courses with free underwater photographs, snorkelling trips, boat trips and full courses. They regularly visit the famous shipwreck of ‘Anna II’, the inspiring reefs in Kalo Livadi and Lis, the cave systems in Tragonisi as well as other diving sites around the island.
Yummy Pedals, Mykonos aim to offer visitors with authentic images of Mykonos on their cycle tours. You will find unique and peaceful beaches on the north coast, lovely countryside and farmlands on tour. The tour ends at the Vioma organic farm and vineyard where you can taste the local products. Mykonos has a hilly interior, quiet backcountry roads and tranquil villages to cycle through.
Children will be fascinated by the windmills in Mykonos Town. It is a beautiful place, especially at sunset when you will take the best photographs, and you have a splendid view of Little Venice.
Raceland Pista Kart makes for a good outing which is open every day. Children can ride with their parents and have a super fun time.
