Overview

Pool Modern Ideal for Kids Walk to Beach Walk to Village

With its prime water-front spot in north-west Kefalonia, two-bedroomed Assos Sun is a coastal retreat that should be on your radar. Hidden on the cliffside, near the charming village of Assos, it’s quiet and peaceful.

The best of both worlds; it’s also steps from the Ionian Sea and is a short drive from the village centre with its historic castle, beautiful Venetian architecture and friendly local tavernas. When you’re not splashing in your private swimming pool, they’re the places to be.

The ground floor of Assos Sun includes an open-plan living, kitchen and dining room which creates the feeling of light and space. There’s also doors leading directly out onto the terrace and a contemporary cool bathroom.

The modern colour palette of greys and beiges is soothing, while the addition of comfortable furnishings like cushion-adorned sofas and a charming wooden dining table sets a homely setting. The kitchen is sleek with its whitewashed and silver-tone countertops, and there’s everything you’ll need for at-home dining; an oven, dishwasher, microwave and more.

Steps from the spacious terrace lead down to the lower ground floor where you’ll find the spacious swimming pool terrace. The pool is lined with cushioned sun loungers and a gazebo so you can find your favourite spot in the sun or the shade.

There’s also a barbeque and al fresco table – perfect for cooking that fresh seafood on – and breathtaking views of Assos castle and the tree-lined hillside.
Upstairs, more large windows allow you to enjoy those magical sea and sunset vistas.

On this floor, you’ll find the master double bedroom and the second bedroom with two twin beds. Both rooms are equally stylish, continuing the pastel-hued theme and each has a full balcony equipped with cushioned wicker chairs. A large bathroom with feature sink and a mixture of graphite and smooth pebble walls separates the two bedrooms.

Assos Sun is in the quiet and traditional village of Assos on the Ionian Island of Kefalonia. It shot to fame as a set of Louis de Bernieres' wartime novel – and later film – Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Years later, it still feels like an undiscovered secret with its serene natural setting, historic sites and a relaxed atmosphere.

Kefalonia is also renowned for its soft sandy beaches, mountain gorges and quaint harbour villages. Spend your days swimming in the crystal-clear waters, exploring the Venetian-style architecture or trying fresh local cuisine like seafood, mezes or moussaka.

The villa itself offers the perfect starting point for exploring more of this beautiful Ionian island. It’s only a short drive from must-see sights like the 15th-century Assos castle in Assos village and Myrtos bay with its picture-worthy beach that’s framed by tall cliffs – both seen from your terrace.

In Assos village, there are also verdant forests with pine and cypress trees to explore. The town is small and still retains its old-world charm with classic Ionian architecture and pretty pastel-coloured houses nestled into the steep hillside.

At the harbour, you can while away the afternoon watching fishing boats and luxury yachts mooring, while in the village square there are tavernas, shops and restaurants to dine at or do as the locals do and sip cold coffee. Assos beach is also a must visit, with its clear waters and fantastic views across the bay.

You can relax on the pebbles or swim and snorkel in the sea. From the villa, Assos village can be reached by car. The coastal route to get there is spectacular and takes in the dramatic rock formations and tranquil sea waters.

In Kefalonia, you’ll also find many intriguing caves to discover. There’s the magical underground lake of Melissanthi or Drogarati with its exquisite natural formations. You could also hop on a boat and head to the untouched coves, inlets and secluded beaches. Some tours stop off for lunch and swimming.

Or, for a dose of culture instead, head to Saint Gerasimos monastery. It’s an impressive 15th-century building that sits beneath Mount Ainos, near the villages Falgrata and Valsamata.

Reviews

  • Amazing villa. Great customer service.

    on 12/08/2022

What is refreshing with Oliver's Travels's service is that they do the simple things right. Like answer the phone or respond to an email quickly when ever you want to ask a quick question or have an important enquiry before you head off. There is always a person to speak with/interact with which just doesn't happen anymore.
One of those properties where your expectations from the photos are met and raised. The setting and views from this property are beautiful. In the two weeks we stayed, none of us could take our eyes off the ever changing picture in front of us, what ever time of day. A magical place.

The villa is perfectly formed, a lovely aesthetic and the team at the villa - cleaning and maintenance - were attentive but never intrusive and very lovely people.

It's also a great location. Sat above the Assos, it's located in a private complex but only a five minutes walk into the village below.
