Svoronata is nestled among the fertile valleys, rambling olive groves, fruit orchards and rolling hills of the Livathos region. The village is charming with sleepy winding streets, colourful gardens, a fresco-adorned church and delightful tourist amenities, all within grabbing distance of the sandy beaches of Ammes, Avithos and Ai Helis. Lassi is only fifteen minutes away, a thriving holiday destination in Kefalonia offering all the holiday trappings you could wish for.

Villa Ammes is a sprawling modern villa with plenty of entertainment space and a gorgeous landscaped garden. With four bedrooms and four bathrooms, the villa sleeps six to eight guests and is perfect for families and groups of friends looking to relax, unwind and rejuvenate. It is an open-plan design, sprinkled with comfortable, modern furnishings. Three of its bedrooms sit on the ground floor with the last, a second spacious master, on the first floor. There is a wonderful flow between the living spaces and the outdoor areas, all combining to offer a superb welcoming ambience. Outside, the villa boasts a uniquely designed swimming pool, a jacuzzi spa, built-in seating, wonderful alfresco dining and lounge spaces and well-kept gardens.

Your open plan living space for the week is bright and airy, drowned in sparkling Kefalonian light which pours through the glass sliding doors and windows. The main living space enjoys gorgeous contemporary sofas and accent chairs that sit around a modern, feature fire and enjoy wonderful garden views. Just off this living space is a library and study room, a quiet space if you need to answer some urgent emails. Also leading from the living space is a sleek, contemporary kitchen and dining space. Dazzling white units, excellent appliances and a sociable breakfast bar make cooking very easy and the dining table sits close by if you don’t want to dine alfresco. As well as the usual appliances, you will also enjoy a quality espresso machine, a sandwich grill and a wine cooler.

The downstairs master is a very generous room with a beautifully dressed, sumptuous kingsize bed and an ensuite bathroom with a bath where you can soak away any remaining stresses and a separate shower. It also boasts a dressing room, a television for long lazy lie-ins, a ceiling fan and direct access to the terrace. The two smaller bedrooms on the ground floor offer single trundle beds. You can pull the trundle out of each to make a double bed if you have more than six guests. Guests staying in these rooms share two smart family bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and the other with a bath and handheld shower attachment. Under a characterful vaulted ceiling, the second first-floor master bedroom offers a queen-sized bed, an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower and access to a balcony. All of the bathrooms come with fluffy towels, dressing gowns, toiletries and slippers.

Even though the interiors are lovely, the garden and terraces are very inviting and you will spend much of your time there. Sprinkled with wonderful outdoor furniture, you will enjoy relaxing and dining alfresco. The swimming pool is very special with a unique design. For an indulgent dip, you can pop a cork and head to the jacuzzi while your barbecue masters prepare a feast on the barbecue. The villa and terrace are surrounded by a very large garden brimming with ancient olive trees, well-kept borders and lush lawns. Though you may be tempted to stay put at Villa Ammes, Kefalonia’s rugged green mountains, lush vineyards, golden beaches, lakes, beautiful villages and feta-covered delicious cuisine are all very tempting.

Villa Ammes enjoys a very peaceful, secluded spot in the village of Svoronata, just moments from the airport. This delightful village sits moments from the wonderful beach of Ammes and is very close to several others. Ammes Beach is a delight with soft sand and plenty of sun loungers and parasols. Towering headlands sit like bookends at Ali Helis Beach while its soft sand is sprinkled with volleyball nets. Avithos Beach enjoys uncrowded sands, a popular tavern and child-friendly turquoise waters. Svoronata is surrounded by lush olive groves, fruit orchards and gently rolling hills. It is a wonderful location for a relaxing holiday. You will meet charming locals chatting on their doorsteps, village gardens packed with colourful scented flowers, the local church which is one of the largest on the island and decorated with incredible frescoes, a windmill where Lord Byron spent many days composing his odes and several mini-marts and tavernas.

The largest island of the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia has much to offer. It is famous for its exotic beaches that may make you think you are in the Caribbean or the Maldives, including Myrtos, Antisamos, Lourdas and Skala. The island enjoys picturesque villages, medieval castles, natural wonders and beautiful ancient monasteries. The capital Argostoli offers a buzzy atmosphere, the little towns of Lixouri and Sami are tourist wonders and the villages of Svoronata, Kourkoumelata, Assos, Fiscardo, Agia Efimia, Skala and Lourdas are places not to miss if you get the chance.

Argostoli stands proudly at the far end of a natural bay surrounded by mountains and lush forests. The major 1953 earthquake destroyed the town which was rebuilt and is now a cosmopolitan wonder with a palm-lined coastal promenade, a wonderful array of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops, a small ferry quay where boats can take you to Lixouri and fishing boats moor up and a lively central square. You will discover the beautiful Church of Saint Spyridon and the fascinating clock tower of Campana Square. The town’s Archaeological Museum of Kefalonia is home to interesting archaeological finds from the Mycenaean, Hellenistic and Roman periods. There are plenty of other museums and monasteries to visit including the Byzantine Ecclesiastical Museum, the Monastery of Agios Milapidias, the Monastery of Sission and the Historical and Folklore Museum of Corgialenos. You shouldn’t miss Vallianos Square, the town’s central square, Lithostroto, the pedestrian commercial street, De Bosset Bridge and Napier’s Garden. Argostoli is very attractive, built on hills surrounding the lagoon of Koutavos and the nature-formed harbour.

You can take the boat over from Argostoli to Lixouri,  the second-largest town in Kefalonia. Lixouri was built on the site where the ancient city of Pali use to be. It offers delightful restaurants and bars which line the busy waterfront and the main square, Plateia Petritsi. Lixouri hosts many festivals throughout the year and is known for its rich cultural traditions. It boasts one of the oldest philharmonic schools in Greece. You can visit some atmospheric churches with wonderful frescoes, the archaeological museum, neoclassical buildings and the famous Monastery of Kipoureon.

Not far from the villa is Pessada, a delightful seaside village with lovely views over to Zante. It enjoys several pretty beaches with crystal clear emerald water and rocks dotted around the bay. If time allows, you should visit Makris Gialos Beach, Xi Beach, Poros Beach, Skala Beach and the famous Myrtos Beach.

Further north is Assos and Fiskardo, both wonderful day or evening excursions from the villa.  Assos is peaceful and charming with some excellent restaurants and cafes. It is surrounded by luscious green scenery and verdant forests. It offers a mystical atmosphere, almost as though the village is lost in time. Pretty pastel-coloured houses are nestled into the steep hillsides and the castle is a popular visit. On the northern tip of the island, Fiskardo is trendy and chic. Its waterside dining is fabulous and there is a wonderful array of unique boutiques and gift shops. As well as colourful fishing boats in the harbour, you will see many luxury yachts as Fiskardo is definitely one of the places to be in Kefalonia.

Villa Ammes is perfect for a family holiday. The villa is very spacious and is surrounded by a huge garden. The property is totally secluded and the pool is excellent.

The thirty-nine beaches of Kefalonia are fabulous and varied. The wonderful Ammes Beach is only one kilometre from the villa and you could even walk to it if you wanted. The astounding Myrtos Beach is one of the most famous of all Greek beaches and it is a stunner. There are stunning sea fish around the bays so snorkelling is a great option. You can hire boats to discover the coastline and there are watersports available at some beaches.

Children love visiting the caves of Melissani Lake where a hole in the cave’s roof lets in the sun. It is very mystical and like venturing into another world. The boat trip across the crystal clear lake is such a memorable excursion. According to the excavations in the 1960s, the worship of God Pan took place in historical times. After the ceiling collapsed after an earthquake, the magic was revealed with the waters illuminated by the sun and the amazing colours reflected on the underground lake waters creating a unique and unforgettable picture. The Drogarati Caves are a miracle of nature with orange and yellow stalactites hanging from the roof like curtains. It is an astonishing marvel, more than one hundred and fifty million years old. The caves opened to the public in the 1960s with a depth of sixty metres. Many concerts have taken place in this grand natural hall over the years as the cave offers spectacular acoustics.

Skala is a beautiful seaside village that enjoys a three-kilometre-long sandy and white pebble beach and crystal-clear blue waters. There are many restaurants, bars and cafes, archaeological sites plus a little pine forest close to the beach.

Cycling is popular in Kefalonia. Some of the coastal paths might be a little difficult for young children but there are some magnificent panoramic views and charming villages to stop at. Skala to Mount Aenos is a fabulous ride with generally great conditions. Craggy cliffs, verdant forests and turquoise waters make for incredible vistas. Mount Aenos is the highest point on the island at 5000 ft. It is also a great place for a hike.

Children always love boat trips. You can visit secluded coves and bays, swimming and snorkelling along the way. It is lovely to head out from one of the harbours at sunset and watch the sun go down. The boat trip over from Argostoli to Lixouri is a great trip. You can also hire kayaks to discover the wonderful coastline and caves.
