Pool Villa/House Modern
Great Value
Ideal for Kids

Villa Crocus is the perfect Kefalonian holiday destination for multi-generational families of all sizes as it not only has accommodation for six but when combined with the other two villas in this secluded development, Villa Narcissus and Villa Attis, you could in total sleep up to eighteen.

If you're lucky enough to arrive in Sami in the evening as the light fades the approach to Villa Crocus will take your breath away. The lighting around the villa, private pool and gardens is perfectly set to show this beautiful property at its very best.  Modern, but built with traditional materials and in the traditional Greek style, Villa Crocus is home for your stay in Sami.

You enter the villa into the large open-plan lounge furnished to a high standard, wall to wall patio doors lead you out onto the poolside terrace and the landscaped garden beyond. On this ground floor you will also find the fully-equipped kitchen and the first of the bedrooms, a king-sized bedroom with en-suite shower room.

Stairs take you up to the master bedroom with elegant en-suite facilities and doors opening out to an amazing furnished terrace. This impressive space with comfortable seating, side tables and sun parasols has unhindered views looking over Sami Bay to the forever sparkling Ionian sea, and the island of Ithaka, where better to sit and enjoy balmy evenings after action-packed days on the beach. Off of the master bedroom is a fun attic room with two sofa beds, ample storage space, a porthole window and ranch style doors, perfect for children.

From the lounge you have access to a large, covered barbecue area with bar area.  Also from the lounge is access to the outdoor dining area, the poolside terrace and the fabulous private pool with loungers that can be placed whether you want to bask in full sun or under the gentle shade of the pine trees which border the garden area.

The private, secure garden is landscaped mostly in grass with young olive trees, hedging and features of local stone, ideal space for children to run around and play games.

Sami is situated midway on the islands east coast looking over the Ionian Sea towards the island of Ithaka, perfectly placed with several amazing beaches nearby and yet with easy access to the rest of the island. Whether it be to visit other beaches, soak up the varied and rather traumatic history of its past or to experience the fusion of cultures in some of the small towns and villages it is worth taking a few trips away from your villa during your stay.

The town is within a 5-minute drive of the villa and is an interesting place to spend some time. With its busy harbour, laid back café’s and tavernas, traditional local shops and the two excellent beaches of Karavomilos and Antisamos all within walking distance.

With Sami being the major port on this side of the island there is always lots going on around the working harbour, there are locals offering a choice of boat trips and ferries to take you to other islands or Patra on mainland Greece. In recent times Sami’s main claim to fame is as the location for the filming of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, based on the ovel by Louis de Bernières, the old town of Sami was realistically transformed to resemble pre-war Argostoli, the sets obviously had to be removed after filming but the village was still recognisable.

The amazing beaches of Kefalonia are many and varied, on this part of the island most are beautiful while pebbles with little in the way of sand, this makes the waters seem so crystal clear and perfect for swimming and snorkelling.  Some of the larger beaches have sun beds to hire and water sports are available, but there are also many more small ones tucked away in tiny coves.

Argostoli, a modern cosmopolitan town is situated on the southwest coast and home to the main port on the island. During the day the town’s harbour is bustling with fishermen landing their catches and locals going about their daily lives, however at sunset, the twinkling lights, the zephyr breeze wafting as you enjoy looking at beautiful boats and cafes is truly magical. Argostoli is a great day trip for the whole family as there are lots of cafe’s, tavernas, restaurants  as well as several museums which give an insight to the turbulent past of the island. Of course, there is also the fabulous Lassi beach within walking distance along the coastal path.

Getting There

How to reach Kefalonia island

There are two ways to get to Kefalonia island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane:  During the busy months, the airport of Kefalonia (EFL) receives a great number of domestic but also charter flights. The airport is located 7 km outside Argostoli, the capital of the island.

By ferry: Kefalonia has three ports: Sami (SMI), Argostoli (ARM), and Poros (PKE). If you want to arrive in Sami you should depart from Patra (GRA). In case you want to arrive to Poros or Argostoli you can depart from Killini (KIL). The trips last from 1.5 to 3 hours. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

There are so many ways to keep your children occupied and amused during your stay in Kefalonia that they need never be bored. The children are bound to enjoy playing games in the garden and splashing around in the private pool! One of the bedrooms features twin beds, ideal for children to share.

The beaches of course are so beautiful and with 57 on the island you have plenty to choose from, some are sandy beaches others beautiful white pebbles which seem to make the water even more inviting.

If you enjoy horse riding or want to try it for the first time, there are a few local riding stables nearby. The sure footed Haflinger horses, specially selected for their temperament, along with the fabulous weather, stunning scenery and varied trails will ensure a great experience whether it be for an hour or for the whole day.

Should you spend a day in and round Argostoli don’t forget to spend some time around the harbour the children will be fascinated by the giant turtles hanging around for tasty bits while the fishermen sort out the catch of the day.If it is just too hot, there is also the fabulous Archaeological Museum, the original museum was destroyed in the earthquake in 1953 and rebuilt in 1960.  This is the best place to learn of the history of the island and see examples of the gold, precious objects and tools from bygone eras.  Nearby on the ground floor of the Korgialenio Library is the Museum of History and folklore which has many more artifacts of the lives of ordinary people over many hundreds of years.

With so many activities on the island to entertain your family you may not have time to fit in a cruise or boat trip but if you can there is a fabulous trip to Navagio Beach, a cove only accessible by boat.  The vertical cliffs and crystal blue waters are breathtaking, the icing on the cake, a shipwreck! it’s not old but well worth a visit and of course there are many stories as to how it happened to land there.  There are opportunities on the trip for diving from the boat, landing on the beach and stopping for lunch, a great family day out.
