Location
About the surrounding area of Villa NarcissusVilla Narcissus sits in a secluded area on the outskirts of the small town of Sami. Here, and within striking distance of other villages you will find a great choice of places to eat out or shops selling an array of fresh local produce should you wish to cater back at the villa.
Kefalonia is a truly beautiful island steeped in natural beauty and history, not to mention the fabulous beaches. Whether you want to sunbathe, swim, snorkel, scuba dive or just watch the world go by there are many to choose from.
If you and your family are keen to explore the underwater world there is no better place to do this than the stunning beach at Agia Eleni. The beach of limestone and fine shingle gets deep quite quickly, several of the stunning rock formations are actually stacks, with mini caves and tunnels you can swim under and through to the other side, a perfect site for even relatively inexperienced snorkelers to enjoy an amazing experience
Without going too far from your villa you have one of Kefalonia’s most famous natural sights Melissani Lake, a subterranean lake with crystal-clear water sparkling as sunlight falls from the tree lined hole in the roof. Visitors can tour the lake in a small boat with a guide to truly appreciate its beauty and wonder.
For a family day out with something for everyone and again not travelling too far is Mount Ainos National Park. At 1600m Mount Ainos is the highest peak on the island. This whole area of hillside has been designated a national park to protect its forests. However you arrive at the summit, the views across Kefalonia and the island-dotted sea are stunning and well worth the effort. Pulling on you hiking shoes is one way to do it, or you could hire mountain bikes, or how about a jeep safari, or of course you could drive. The jeep safari will take you look for the wild horses and maybe to old ghost villages like Palaia Vlachata where the Saristra 3 day music and arts festival is held. While you are in this area there is a very cool landscape that looks like a fantastic Bond movie from the 60’s and 70’s. This is the remains of the abandoned Uedoxus observatory.

There are two ways to get to Kefalonia island: either by flight or by ferry.

By ferry: Kefalonia has three ports: Sami (SMI), Argostoli (ARM), and Poros (PKE). If you want to arrive in Sami you should depart from Patra (GRA). In case you want to arrive to Poros or Argostoli you can depart from Killini (KIL). The trips last from 1.5 to 3 hours. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesKefalonia is a fantastic destination for a family holiday, with its 57 beautiful beaches, dramatic ancient and modern history and verdant forests there is a huge variety of activities available.
The villa’s private pool and the beaches are where children will undoubtedly want to spend most of their time while on holiday. Locally you have the choice of three wonderful beaches, Sami beach, backed by the welcome dappled shade of pine trees is small, pebbly with some sand and right next to the bustling harbour. Karavomilos the neighbouring fishing village has a long narrow shingle beach and the most beautiful views across to the small island of Ithaca and then you have most famous beach on the island, Antisamos, which features in the film of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, the beach stretches out in an as yet unspoiled valley surrounded by lush green hills. There are water sports here suitable for all ages and abilities. You really need beach shoes for these local beaches because in the main they are covered in white stones with very little sand.
Only 3 km from Sami on the main road leading to Argostoli is the 7 Watermills Trail, an easy trail you can enjoy together and a perfect opportunity for a picnic. It is a walking trail by the river, passing through lush vegetation, flowing clear waters, magical sounds and impressive human stone creations. On the way to the venetian stone bridge, you will pass by the 7 ruined water mills used for grinding wheat and corn, each of them destroyed by the earthquakes of 1953.
For an action-packed day out, you can enjoy the adrenalin rush of coasteering. With the amazing coastline of caves and rock formations and the crystal-clear water of the Ionian Sea there is nowhere better to try it. During your coasteering trip you will learn rock climbing and scrambling techniques as well as how to jump from great heights safely, sometimes swimming in the sea, sometimes scrambling on rocks and jumping from them into the sea.
As well as sea and sand eating is another very important part of a holiday for children. You will not be disappointed in the choice of cafe’s, tavernas, restaurants and village shops should you wish to eat at the villa. Eating out in the early evening with children is very much accepted in Kefalonia, children are made so very welcome and always encouraged to try local dishes.
