Villa Pasque is a characterful, vintage-inspired villa on the Greek paradise island of Lefkada. On arrival, you'll receive a warm welcome from the villa team in the form of a hamper with local food and drink specialities, including wine, honey, fresh bread, coffee and fruit.

Enter through a winding stepping stone path that leads up to the beautiful stonework exterior, built in a heritage style. Stone fortification-style walls surround the property, while an expansive garden encompasses the property, peppered with Mediterranean plants and trees.

There's a huge swimming pool reminiscent of the turquoise Ionian Sea, plenty of sunbeds for soaking up the rays and an outdoor shaded area with a marble-topped dining table. Take a refreshing dip to cool off from the summer sunshine and rejuvenate, then take in the dreamy island atmosphere.

The delightful villa is spread over three floors. Ascend the steps to reach the two charming, minimal bedrooms, which have queen-sized beds dressed in lemon or soft grey bedspreads and fresh white walls. In one of the rooms, the queen bed is convertible to a twin, depending on your preferences. White drapes flutter at the large windows and allow the Mediterranean sunshine in. Ensuites are colourful, with retro tiles and shower cubicles, with complimentary toiletries and beauty products.

The compact yet cosy living space includes a well-equipped kitchen and a pull-out sofa that can serve as an extra bed for two guests. Curl up and watch a movie together on satellite television. Guests also have the option of dining in this area around the wooden cream table.

The kitchen even has two kinds of coffee machines - espresso and French press. Whip up a home-cooked feast or pick up some tasty Grecian cuisine from a traditional tavern nearby. The side door opens out onto the pool area, allowing fresh air and showcasing beautiful views.

Famous for its spellbinding beaches yet still flying under the radar (despite being one of the few Greek islands you can access by car), Lefkada is a fantastic island to be based on. It is conveniently connected to the mainland by a causeway. Meanwhile, the airport is 25km away in Aktion. The villa itself is in Sfakiotes, in the north of the island, a peaceful and authentic local area.

Lefkada has a charming, typically Greek town centre full of narrow streets and alleyways. There's fantastic shopping in the form of cute boutiques and gift shops, and the main square has a plethora of characterful cafes and quirky bars. The town comes alive at night, when everyone gathers for delicious food and conversation, creating an infectious buzz.

With dazzling beaches on every coast, you'll be spoilt for choice when planning a beach day in Lefkada. The postcard-perfect beach used in many marketing campaigns is Porto Katsiki, a beach with soaring white cliffs topped with greenery, a delicate ribbon of white sand and a spectacular turquoise sea. Alternatively, head to relaxing Agios Nikitas beach, with beautiful water and lots of high-quality seafood restaurants because of the fishing village. Around the island, watersports are very popular, including paragliding, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Yachting is a popular pastime for locals and visitors - visit the sophisticated Lefkada Marina and watch the fancy catamarans and yachts bobbing in the harbour. Boat trips to different beaches around Lefkada and neighbouring islands like Skorpios and Meganisi can be arranged.

Visit Nydri waterfall, accessed by a short yet scenic hike through olive and citrus groves and over rocky areas. The reward is a jaw-dropping wall of water that descends into a pool where you can swim. In high season, local stalls sell honey from around this region.

For culture fans, explore the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, surrounded by captivating gardens and perched high atop a hill. There is a museum inside with icons, chalices and manuscripts, and even a small zoo dating back to the 17th century.

The food on Lefkada is similar to that of mainland Greece and the Mediterranean area - except many of the restaurants here have amazing sweeping mountain views. One dish to try in a traditional taverna is a tasty moussaka - layers of minced meat and tomato sauce with aubergine and creamy bechamel sauce, baked like lasagne. Another dish to try is souvlaki, which is skewered and grilled meat and sometimes with vegetables. A local speciality is a creamy and zingy tzatziki with freshly baked crusty bread.

Getting There

How to reach Lefkada island

You can easily reach Lefkas by car from mainland Greece, via the bridge connecting Lefkada with Aitoloakarnania. Lefkada island does not have an airport.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids

With its laid-back atmosphere, range of glorious beaches and family-friendly activities, a holiday in Lefkada is ideal for kids. Locals adore interacting with children and will often give them little treats and free snacks, while babies are always welcome in restaurants.

The beaches of Lefkada are a fantastic place to start. Agios Nikitas beach is quiet and tranquil for kids - the golden sand and swirling shades of blue in the sea are bound to amaze children of all ages. Alternatively, Pefkoulia beach is ideal for kids. Also peaceful and equally stunning but with shallow water, making it safer for younger children to swim confidently.

The villa itself is a welcoming and safe place for children - there's a huge amount of space for them to run around and play games within the lawn area. They'll feel like they are on the grounds of their very own castle with fortification walls and stone exteriors. With a spacious, refreshing pool for them to splash around in and show off their swimming skills and a satellite TV in the living room, the villa has plenty to entertain older children, while for younger children, parents will be pleased to know that a villa is a child-friendly place, with a playpen and a child seat available on request.

Inside the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, children will find a small zoo in the courtyard with local and exotic animals within it. This zoo is unique in the sense that monks look after the animals, which also live in the lush garden surrounding the monastery. The monastery itself is also fascinating for children, with ancient artefacts and beautiful architecture. Nidri waterfall is also bound to impress, and the hike to get there is not too taxing on little legs.

Kids are bound to enjoy trying out tasty Grecian cuisine, especially moussaka and spanokopita, a filo pastry parcel containing spinach with feta cheese and onions or scallions.
