Contemporary 2-bedroomed Villas Hydria are set on the sea edge, just over a mile from the beautiful Petra Beach. The four villas enjoy a prestigious position where guests enjoy astonishing sea views and stunning sunsets. Petra has been inhabited since ancient times, as revealed by the tombs on the Keramidaria site. According to legend, Achilles anchored in Petra on his way to the Trojan War. The buzzy tourist resort of Molyvos, with its castle and brilliantly organised beach, is just 4 km further north. In Petra, you will discover charming cobbled streets lined with hidden treasures. There are some delightful galleries, gift shops, grocery stores, restaurants, cafes and a local ouzo distillery.
Lesvos is the third largest Greek island and boasts sensational scenery, award-winning beaches, ancient, traditional, picturesque villages, a huge array of wildflowers and birdlife, lush pine forests, medieval castles, olive groves, scenic, colourful harbours, plenty of museums, a gourmet dining experience and some of the warmest, friendliest people in all of Greece. With stunning natural attractions, including a petrified forest and hot springs, its beautiful landscapes are waiting to be explored on donkey or horseback, by foot, jeep or cycling. The island hosts numerous festivals, which can be enjoyed along with its gorgeous beaches, fascinating archaeology, stunning scenery and laid-back lifestyle. The island is famous for its ouzo, Olive oil, monasteries, and fabulous beaches.
Villa Hydria is a fabulous, two-bedroom villa built in 2014 to a very high standard. It is located in Avlaki, within walking distance down to Avlaki Beach. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa HydriaVilla Hydria is located between the villages of Petra and Anaxos, roughly 30 miles from Mytilene Airport, and closer to Avlaki beach. It enjoys a lovely elevated location with stunning views to Molyvos and the dazzling blue Aegean Sea. The sandy beaches of Anaxos and Petra are only a 5 minute drive from the villa. Ambelia Beach is just 1.5 miles from the villa, and Tsichranta is 2.1 miles away. The 23 beaches of Lesvos are usually small pebbled bays, some secluded even in the high season. Avlaki, Petra and Molyvos beaches offer excellent watersports and are organised with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. The stunning Vatera Beach is as long as many of the Cyclades islands themselves. You could almost fit any of the Cyclades islands in the Bay of Kaloni.
Petra is a romantic old village brimming with pretty squares, terracotta buildings and narrow cobblestone streets. Its church, Panagia Glykofilousa, stands proud at the top of the village, soaring high above the rooftops. Sightseeing and shopping merge perfectly in Petra. The streets are lined with little shops selling locally crafted wood, jewellery and art plus there is a small Ouzo distillery that has been run by the same family for generations. If you are interested in history, you might wander into Vareltzidaina’s House, the restored home of a 19th-century merchant. You will enjoy strolling along the golden sandy beach and snorkelling with colourful fish in the clear blue water. There is a local tractor train that can take you on a hop-on-hop-off tour of Petra and Molyvos.
The beautiful island of Lesvos is awash with gorgeous scenery, medieval castles, ancient monuments, charming villages and plenty of museums. The most famous museum is The World of Ouzo Museum which is situated in Isidoros Arvanitis in a fabulous olive grove, just a few minutes from the village of Plomari. The distillery has been going for more than 120 years and exports its delicious ouzo to more than 30 countries around the world. Visitors can taste and buy the ouzo. Other fascinating museums include the Archaeological Museum of Mytilene, the Iakovidis Digital Museum and The Museum of the Petrified Forest which was founded in 1994 to research, promote, display, preserve and protect the unique forest. The Petrified Forest, 12 km from Sigri, is a rare natural site which was officially declared a natural monument in 1985. It was petrified because of the intense volcanic activity of the area. The Vranas Olive Press Museum in Kaloni is housed in a beautiful industrial building built by Nikolaos Vranas, the grandfather of the poet Odysseas Elytis. It operated until the early 1970’s.
Lesvos’ hot springs, health-inducing spas are dotted around the island. Many have been used for thousands of years for rheumatism, arthritis, gynaecological and dermatological ailments as well as kidney and gallstones, neurological ailments, bronchitis and sciatica. The main locations are Efthalia, Thermes and Gera. The island’s landscape is rugged with mountains and lush forests. If you visit the island in the spring, you will be rewarded with one of the most impressive displays of wildflowers and wild birds you will ever see. Lesvos is a major stop in the migration routes of European birds coming from Africa. Although there are many birdwatching spots around the island, the most famous is the salt lakes close to Kalloni, in the centre of the island. The island is renowned for its high-quality olive oil as well as its ouzo. Lesvos is sprinkled with many picturesque villages.
The village of Molyvos is a must-visit for its spectacular views of the Aegean Sea. An imposing medieval castle sits above the village where it used to protect the village from invasions. You can take some lovely boat excursions from Molyvos. The ancient walls of Molyvos were once besieged by Archilles himself. Other pretty villages include Mytilene, Agiossos and Skala Sikamias. The seaside town of Sigri is very popular, a remote outpost of Greek island tourism. Other attractions include the Castle of Mytilene, the Monastery of Saint Raphael, the Ipsilou Monastery, The Ancient Theatre of Lesvos and the Roman Aqueduct, which dates from the 3rd century AD. The Castle of Mytilene was originally built in medieval times but has undergone many transformations by the Genovese and the Turks.
There are so many other fascinating ancient buildings, churches, monasteries and museums to visit. You really need at least two weeks to discover this amazing island fully!

Discover Lesbos!
The volcanic island of Lesvos (often spelled as Lesbos) offers visitors pretty villages, impressive nature, fascinating geology and gorgeous beaches as well as a fascinating history and rich island culture.
Seasonally, international flights arrive at the island’s airport around 7km south of the island’s capital city, Mytilene, or sail to Lesvos from various Greek ports including Piraeus, Athens.
Fall in love with the island beaches from the long shores of Vatera Beach with watersports, sun loungers and umbrellas to more remote spots accessible only by boat. Keen snorkellers will love the clear waters of Tsonia Beach or you may prefer to sip cocktails overlooking Paralia Tarti’s crystal-clear sea. If you can find the time, soak up the summer ambience of the lively beach at Molyvos with idyllic sunsets over the Aegean.
The island’s nature is inspiring with ample bird-watching opportunities, especially around the salt pans of Kalloni where migratory birds stop en route from Africa to Europe. In the springtime, look out for rare sightings of birds and beautiful wild flowers as you follow a network of hiking trails across the mountains and wild forests. Cycling is another wonderful way to experience the natural beauty and authentic Greek charm of Lesvos.
With archaeological sites and historic castles, there are many sites where you can learn all about the island’s diverse and often turbulent history. Admire the Roman aqueduct in Moria, the Byzantine castle in Molyvos and the impressive fort in in Mytilene. Visitors will also appreciate the island’s hot springs and spas, many which have been used for centuries, and Lesvos’ rich heritage in olive oil and ouzo production – a visit to The World of Ouzo Museum and distillery is an interesting detour.
Another great highlight of the island is The Petrified Forest, dating back 20 million years -the fossilised tree stumps underwent the process of petrification during the active volcanic period. Learn more about this unique natural site, at the forest’s Natural History museum around 11km from the remote fishing harbour of Sigri.

Lesvos enjoys 23 beaches in all. The number one activity that children enjoy is swimming. Vatera Beach is 7 km long and offers brilliantly organised watersports and beach bars. Skala Eresos, on the southwest side of the island, is another family-friendly wonder where the sunsets are truly magical.
Just 4km from the villa, families can enjoy horseback riding tours in Molyvos. The riding tours are suitable for children and adults. The petrified forest of Lesvos is one of the two largest of its kind in the world. It is very well maintained and is a fascinating place to visit. There are superb hiking trails, and it is a brilliant place for a picnic.
Some of Lesvos’ festivals include activities for children of all ages. During the Lesvos Food Fest, children can join cooking classes making dishes with local ingredients. During the Arion International Guitar Festival in Molyvos, there are some fabulous musical and theatrical workshops for children. The Euphoria International Wellness Festival offers art games and family courses.
It is easy to find some very tasty family meals and delicious local delicacies on the island. One of the special treats is Kaloni sardines. There is a huge array of meze dishes, including stuffed zucchini flowers, local cheeses and the famous gkiouzlemedes which are small fried cheese pies. Children love them! For the sweet tooths in the family, there are plenty of sweets and the famous almond baklava.

We would highly recommend!
The villa was in a perfect location, with fabulous views and close to the best towns in Lesbos. The villa was beautifully furnished and to a high standard. The staff looking after us couldn't have been more helpful, from the moment we arrived at the villa to the moment we left! The owner was available and visited the villa (without intrusion) to check that we were happy and all was well - which it was. The beds were probably the most comfortable that we've experienced in any previous villas that we've hired and we admire the way in which the owner has put this as a priority for those visiting Villa Hydria (it never fails to amaze me how other villa owners forget that the key to a good holiday is a good night's rest!). The pool was also beautifully located and a good size; it was clean, well maintained with plenty of pool furniture and shade when needed. We'd highly recommend these villas.

Very impressed
We were very impressed by the standard of the accommodation, particularly the comfort of the beds. The owner, agent, maintenance man and daily cleaner were each attentive, friendly and efficient. The owner visited regularly to check all was well and, as a result our visit was without a hitch and very enjoyable.

Fantastic Week
My husband and I had a wonderful week here. The villas are fantastically run and the owners and staff are super friendly and will help with advice to get the most out of your stay. Thanks, Vanessa, Mike and Lily. The villa is modern, super clean with knock out views. Really well thought out layout. The villa is cleaned daily and linen changed every two days which worked well. The pool area which we spent lots of time around is brilliantly maintained and cleaned and again the stunning views are something else. It’s really tranquil, just the gentle lapping of the waves and bells from the goats in the hills. Petra is a great local village, some lovely restaurants and sunset views that will leave you speechless. Also Molyvos is a 10 minute drive and stunning with the castle lit up at night. Lots to do or not depending on what you want from your break. I imagine it’s pretty busy in the middle of Summer in Petra but as there are only 4 villas it should never get that noisy (depending on the guests!) We hardly noticed the other guests when we stayed. A perfect holiday

Very relaxing stay
We stayed 8 nights at Villa Hydria and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The Villa was spotless, and had an amazing pool to relax and enjoy the wonderful views. The staff were very friendly, helpful and always there to assist if needed. We would definitely return to Villa Hydria, a fantastic place to enjoy the wonders of northern Lesvos. Thank you to all who made our stay wonderful. Highly Recommended. Maria and Rohan

A serene paradise
Our family absolutely loved this place.
We were very impressed with the villa - the design, decor, and attention to detail were of the highest calibre. Nothing had been overlooked!
On arrival we were greeted warmly and given very useful information on the island and anything we would need. There was a basket with breakfast essentials (coffee, juices, fresh fruit, jams) as well as more for us to enjoy. The kitchen was fully equipped, including an oven, full sized fridge and a microwave. It really felt like a home!
The best part was the private pool. The views were absolutely stunning - we never wanted to leave, especially around dinner when the sunset was breathtaking!
(Keep in mind that you need a car to access the property. There is small dirt road that leads to it, and there isn't very much within easy walking distance.)
Overall we loved our stay and it allowed us to really relax and reconnect as a family in such a comfortable and beautiful location.
