Region
Considered to be one of the most beautiful villages on the island, Megalochori is a hidden gem with white-washed houses, blue-domed churches, bougainvillea-clad terraces and a fine reputation for its Vinsanto wine production which brought great prosperity to this part of Santorini.
On Santorini’s western coast and surrounded by vineyards, this traditional Cycladic village attracts day trippers keen to tour family-run wineries such as Gavalas and Boutari – the naturally sweet wine is made from grapes grown in volcanic soil left to dry naturally in the sun, then aged in oak barrels. You can also visit the village caves carved out from volcanic rock where wine and olive oil was once stored centuries ago.
Meanwhile, be enchanted as you wander around the warren of old lanes, admire the delightful belltower on the main square and stop off in an inviting taverna serving delicious local fare. Much of the 17th century village was damaged in an earthquake many years ago but it has been lovingly restored and still retains its historic charm.
For day trips away from the village, drive up to hilltop Pyrgos for yet more gorgeous architecture, castle ruins and stunning views of the island. Further north, Fira is of course the island’s popular capital, and captivating Oia is loved for its photogenic scenery and sunsets.
Alternatively, head south to the ancient site of Akrotiri and Santorini’s iconic red beach with red-hued pebbles and volcanic rocks – boat trips also allow you to admire this stunning spectacle from the sea, sometimes as part of an island volcano or sunset tour.

The house is very beautiful
Just a surprise:) The house is very beautiful, it cannot be easily described, the pictures shown by the host are far from the beauty of the rooms, the house is more beautiful in reality than the pictures, it is at the highest point of Santorini, you can see the whole view of the whole island, there are ancient buildings and blue roof churches on the upper right corner of the house, delicious restaurants and small supermarkets can be reached in 5 minutes on foot, many choices, and the price is not high for residents.
The house was a surprise for my family and my parents loved it too:) The housekeeper was very warm and humorous, sent us a bottle of wine to welcome us and helped us a lot, he was so lovely. I am willing to recommend this property to anyone, and in fact I did the same, I'm lucky to find this house, and if I ever come back to Santorini, I wouldn't hesitate to choose it again. -
Living in this beautiful home was magical.
Living in this beautiful home was magical. Every corner of the house is enchanting. From the terrace at the top that overlooks the entire island and on which I was able to do a wonderful yoga practice under the blue dome at six in the morning watching the sunrise, to the small pool with jacuzzi on the lower terrace, elegant and cosy, to the pool hidden in a cave on the lower floor. The bathroom of the apartment at the first floor is particularly beautiful. Made with tadelakt including the bathtub. It is a house that smells flowers.

We had a lovely time at the wonderful villa
The peaceful atmosphere and tranquil location, close to the historic city center of Pyrgos, made our stay exceptional. A special highlight for us was the pool on the terrace with a beautiful view over the island. Highly recommended!

An enchanting property with amazing views, what a beautiful place to stay in Santorini and just a short walk to the square of Pyrgos with cafes and restaurants.

Our stay was beyond magical!
The Villa is within easy walking distance from the main square at Pyrgos in Santorini. A secluded courtyard leads to the spacious rooms and living area, all beautiful restored in traditional style and decorated with hand picked tableware and linen. The Villa offers plenty of space, with outdoor jacuzzi on the upstairs apartment and an extra inside cave pool downstairs. The evenings are peaceful offering stunning views across to Oia. Highly recommended! we would chose to stay there again!
