Overview
The immaculate Villa Azelia is located moments from the sea in the colourful village of Koskinou. It is a brilliant location just five miles from Rhodes Town in the north of the island and six miles from the tourist resort of Faliraki and the Music School of Rhodes. Koskinou is incredibly picturesque and famous for its unique mosaic of colours. Its wood and iron house doors are all painted in vivid colours and enjoy carved or etched designs. The little gardens are cobbled and so pretty behind the courtyard doors. It is a village that makes you feel happy. The newer coastal area, where Villa Azelia is located, is considered to be one of the most popular destinations for family holidays in Rhodes. The village boasts charming narrow streets, beautiful churches and chapels and a wonderful array of traditional taverns and cafes. There are countless paths that lead from the newer part to the old village with its cobbled streets and whitewashed squares full of vibrant flowers.
Villa Azelia is modern, bright and airy. It offers five spacious bedrooms, sleeping ten guests in luxurious comfort. Its living spaces are open plan in design with glossy floor tiles running thoughout. The cream and red kitchen offers all the appliances you will need for your self-catering stay, pleasing the chefs in your group. It offers a breakfast table and an American style double fridge freezer. The bright and cheery kitchen leads around to the living and dining area. Here you will discover a smart dining table and chairs under a trendy light fitting and a comfy corner sofa arrangement, perfectly positioned to watch the large wall-mounted Smart television. The neutral colour tones are calm and relaxing. Doors open to the terrace, pool and garden. Also on the ground floor, you will find two of the five bedrooms. One offers a sumptuous double bed, beautifully dressed with luxury linens and exquisite soft furnishings and the other twins which sit side by side. Guests staying in these rooms share a beautiful shower room. Upstairs there are two double rooms and another twin. Again, all of the beds are beautifully adorned with scatter cushions and matching bedspreads. One of the double rooms enjoys an ensuite bathroom with a bath and shower and the other two rooms share a family shower room. Attractive artwork decorates the walls throughout the villa.
The outside space is very generous in size. As well as the main pool, there are two small swimming pools for young children which is very helpful. There are plenty of quality wooden loungers with parasols, a lovely, covered alfresco dining area and a barbecue, a huge porch with alfresco lounge furniture, lush lawns and beautiful views to the sea. It is very easy to relax at Villa Azelia. You may be tempted to stay put though the Old Town of Rhodes is only twenty minutes away and the wonderful Kallithea Springs are just five minutes from the villa. The magnificent ancient acropolis of Lindos is only half an hour away.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa AzeliaVilla Azelia enjoys a fabulous position overlooking the sea in the charming village of Koskinou, believed to be the prettiest village in Rhodes. The village is within easy reach of the delights of Rhodes Town and is within ten minutes of some gorgeous beaches. Koskinou is famous for its beautifully painted, colourful houses and its summer festival on 17 July celebrating the name day of St Marina with music and dancing. Visitors enjoy delicious traditional cuisine in the local tavernas as well as yummy local wines. Koskinou is an exciting labyrinth of tiny, winding, cobblestone streets with fabulous splashes of red, blue, yellow, green, pink and turquoise. You feel so alive and happy meandering through the lanes. The facades, doors and windows of the 17th and 18th century neoclassical houses are bright and cheerful, many with carved or etched designs. Small patios and gardens complete the pretty picture. You won’t be able to resist peeking in! Many of the whitewashed squares are draped in colourful bougainvillea and other flowers. Kosinou enjoys an interesting history since the 4th century AD. Its 13th century medieval castle and the chapels built in the 4th century are worth visiting.
The medieval Old Town of Rhodes is an intricate warren of busy little commercial streets and delightful, quiet alleys. It is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe and has UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status. The Old Town is full of Byzantine and Gothic churches, medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs and many boutique shops and restaurants. The highlights of the Old Town are the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaeological Museum housed in the Gothic building of the Great Hospital of the Knights, Knight’s Street and some of the mosques. It is so alive and fun!
Kallithea is situated against a setting of world famous spa baths and stunning beaches on the eastern coast of Rhodes. Its tiny inlets and coves, sprinkled with sculptured rocks and caves, are gorgeous. Diving and snorkeling are very popular as well as the other watersports on offer. The Kallithea Spa was built in 1920 by the Italians. Following its restoration, the spa is a top sight. Many guests visit the area for its crystal clear azure waters and magical scenery.
Faliraki Beach is the most popular and most highly organised beach in Rhodes. It is more than 5km wide and offers fine golden sand, trendy beach bars, sun loungers and parasols, just about every watersport imaginable and even bungee jumping. The nightlife is incredible with fabulous restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The Faliraki Water Park is fantastic fun and a very popular excursion for families.

The Island/Getting There
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.
Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.
The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.
The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.
Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:
- Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
- The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
- For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
- Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) – Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun. Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
- Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
- Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.
How to reach Rhodes island
There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.
By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Azelia is ideal for a family holiday. It is very spacious with five bedrooms including two twin bedrooms. You could even book it for a multi-generational family or two families.
The island of Rhodes is perfect for a family holiday. There is so much on offer from sensational sandy beaches, watersports, the Faliraki Water Park, riding schools, go karts and much more.
The Faliraki Water Park is brilliant fun. It is the largest water park in Greece and boasts a huge selection of extreme speed, open, closed, twisted, free fall and Kamikaze slides, a lazy river, swimming pools and a fun water playground. You can buy one, two or three day tickets to the park. For sure, your children will be keen to go back once they have enjoyed a thrilling day on the slides.
Rhodes is known for its stunning beaches. There are many beaches to choose from. Some are silvery sandy stretches and others tiny and rocky, perfect for snorkeling or diving to explore the underwater life. Some of the most popular beaches are Traganou Beach, Tsambika Beach, Lee Beach, Pefkos Beach, Agathi Beach, Lindos Beach and Plakia Beach. There are many watersports on offer including paragliding, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, snorkeling and diving. You can take many boat trips including glass bottom boats.
Rhodes has a fascinating history and there are many interesting museums to visit including the Archaological Museum of Rhodes, the Modern Greek Art Museum, The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, the Folklore Museum, Rhodes Toy Museum, the Bee Museum and the Filerimos Monastery.
Other popular family friendly excursions on Rhodes are to the Rhodes Aquarium, the Farma of Rhodes Petting Zoo and the Valley of Butterflies where you will walk through the narrow forest and see the thousands of butterflies that descend during the summer and to Eleousa which is located in the lush foothills of Mount Profitis Elias.
