Gennadi is perhaps one of the most beautiful villages in Rhodes; a real Greek village with all the charm and friendliness that Greece has to offer, a little bit of paradise. Villa Erinna is a fabulous property with accommodation for up to 8 guests, perfect for large families with children or anyone in need of accommodation without too many steps. The inside of the property is barrier-free; the only steps at the villa are the six as you enter the building from the beautifully paved courtyard.

From the courtyard, you enter into a bright open-plan area with a large lounge, the sofas arranged around an open fire and satellite TV, a fully fitted kitchen and dining area. The bedrooms are also accessed from this area.

There are four beautiful double rooms all with blackout blinds – one with an en-suite shower room, two with doors opening onto the terrace and one with twin beds, ideal for small children. There is also a separate bathroom.

Large patio doors lead from the lounge onto a beautiful covered terrace where there is a dining table large enough to accommodate a full complement of guests. From here you look out onto the garden and fabulous swimming pool with outside shower, sun loungers with umbrellas and a hammock, who will be able to resist trying to get on board?

The garden is beautifully laid out, extensive lawn with crazy paving, mature shrubs and trees all round to ensure your privacy, there is also a vegetable patch and fruit trees – should you be lucky enough to be there at the right time the produce is yours to use, how wonderful is that?

The paved courtyard area is very traditional looking with another dining table and chairs set around the enormous fully equipped built-in barbecue, the loveliest of settings for your evening meal.

With modern features, great facilities and only 200m from the beach, Villa Erinna has everything you could want for your holiday.

If you are looking for a quiet beach with inviting clear water and unspoiled views, it is here on your doorstep. The stunning Gennadi beach is a part of a seemingly endless stretch of a mix of sand and pebbles that goes on as far as the eye can see.

Kiotari beach only 4km from Gennadi, really an extension of Gennadi beach offers magical and slightly different holiday activities. Kiotaris Rocking Horse Ranch is a hidden gem; quirky, quaint stables offering treks for absolute beginners and experienced riders. Take a guided trek through the forest, down onto the beach and even into the sea! Or the ultimate romantic experience a 2-hour sunset trek - out of this world. They even offer transport from your villa. Or, why not hire a glass-bottomed boat, your crew will love seeing the fish swim underneath them and be fascinated at the other sea creatures they see.

Lindos town, 22km away, is so very beautiful and most definitely worth a visit. A hillside village of brilliant white houses, mosaic lined streets, small shops - some of which are in tunnels cut into the rock! It’s hard not to notice the ancient Acropolis when visiting. It rises above sea level, situated on a cliff over 100 meters high, all the paved streets that are dotted with traders, lead to the Acropolis. To get up to the Acropolis, you need to negotiate a steep stepped footpath, however, there is another way - you can ride on a donkey to the top of the hill. The donkeys line up like taxis inside the rock to keep out of the heat of the day. At the top of the Acropolis, you will find a real treasure - the temple of the goddess Athena Linda. It looks exactly the way we envisage the ancient ruins of temples, the tall white columns glistening in the sun.

One of the most beautiful religious sites of the island, Moni Thari Monastery, is located near the village of Laerma 25km away.  It is hidden in the dense forest, and it may not be noticed from the road.  During its construction in the 12th and 13th centuries, there was a high threat of piracy, so it was hidden this way. Inside the main church of the monastery, you can find beautiful frescos of great historical value from the Middle Ages. Although there are no official tours around the monastery, some of the monks who live here are happy to talk about the site’s history.

The Island/Getting There

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.

Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.

The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.

The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.

Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:

  • Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
  • The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
  • For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
  • Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) –  Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun.  Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
  • Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
  • Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.

How to reach Rhodes island

There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.

By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.

By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Children will have a blast staying at Villa Erinna. The garden boasts lots and lots of flat, open and secure space to run around and play all day. At the far end of the garden is found the playground - a timber climbing frame with playhouse, chute and swings, you can sit and watch your children play without leaving your poolside lounger. Within the garden there are many fruit trees and even a vegetable patch, they will love picking their own ‘5 a day’ should you be lucky enough to be there at the right time in the season.

There are some classic board games in the living room, a games console and a full size table tennis table on the terrace, to slow things down after a busy day in the beach or at the pool. The villa even has two electric bicycles and two children’s cycles for you to use, a baby/toddler seat is also available should you need it.

The clear blue water of the Aegean Sea is perfect for swimming, fishing and snorkelling – there are so many fish to see, not so easy to catch! Close by there are a few small child-friendly tavernas should having too much fun be hungry work.

If you were having a day to Rhodes, and to appease your younger travellers here are a few examples of activities of must-do activitis while you are in Rhodes.

Faliraki Aquarium (Aquaworld) is a fabulous attraction, the exhibition space is small but the staff are very friendly it encourages children to learn by participating in the touch pools, where the little ones can handle for the first time animals such octopus, baby sharks, starfish or more. Why not visit the Ostrich Farm, located near the village of Petaloudes. On the farm there are about 120 species of ostriches and 20 species of other animals, donkeys, goats, camels, monkeys, deer, kangaroos. Children can ride a camel, feed the ostrich, run for wild boar should they want to.
