Gennadi is a wonderful resort in the south of Rhodes. It boasts golden sands, beautiful sunrises and mesmerising sunsets. Gennadi holidays are relaxed, laid-back and all about living like a local. This ancient fishing village is very charming with narrow streets and traditional tavernas. Gennadi’s beach spreads for miles on either side of the village. It offers a wonderful array of watersports and some fantastic beach bars. Gennadi is just thirty minutes from the whitewashed town of Lindos which is overlooked by its famous hilltop Acropolis. The ruins tell the story of the island’s past with remains from the Roman era, an ancient Greek temple and a castle built by the medieval knights of St John. Lindos is very pretty and full of unique jewellery and handicraft shops, boutiques and vibrant bars. The UNESCO Old Town of Rhodes is an hour away at the other end of the island but should not be missed.
Villa Fengari is beautifully presented inside and out. You will return home with magical memories for sure. The living room enjoys a calm, neutral colour palette with colourful scatter cushions brightening the cream sofas. There is an open fireplace for chilly months and an atmosphere and a television for entertainment. At the far end of the room you will find a smart dining area and the kitchen will please the chefs in your group with its modern feel and excellent appliances.
The villa boasts three very comfortable bedrooms, two with double beds and one with twins. The upper floor balcony enjoys fabulous views. Guests share two family bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath where you can soak any remaining stresses away. The bathrooms come with fluffy towels and gorgeous toiletries.
Though the interior of Villa Fengari is delightful, the magic really happens outside. There is a lovely shaded alfresco lounge area, a stunning swimming pool surrounded by luxury loungers, a landscaped garden area and a brilliant alfresco dining and cooking area. Without a doubt, you will spend most of your time at the villa in this dreamy outside space. Not only is the pool surrounded by loungers and parasols, ideal spots for your holiday read, it is also surrounded by lush Mediterranean plants and palms, adding to the warm ambience. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa FengariVilla Fengari enjoys a fabulous location in Gennadi, just moments from the centre of the village and the beach. Lindos Acropolis is just over fourteen miles from the villa and Prasonisi is just over seventeen miles. The location is excellent and the atmosphere is very chilled and relaxed. Gennadi boasts a wonderful selection of shops, bars and restaurants. The village is very friendly and offers an excellent sand and pebble beach. You will find a mix of modern villas set against traditional Greek tavernas.
Just ten minutes away, Lindos is a seaside gem and one of the island’s prettiest towns, all dazzling white with hints of blue. Lindos is overlooked by its famous Acropolis which should not be missed. You can hitch a ride to the top of the town on the back of a donkey. The gorgeous narrow streets of Lindos feature charming unique shops, vibrant bars and a fabulous dining scene.
The wonderful Old Town of Rhodes sits at the far north of the island, roughly an hour away. It boasts fabulous churches left by the Byzantines and a gorgeous harbour that was once the site of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. You will discover an intricate warren of busy little commercial streets and delightful, quiet alleys. It is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe. The Old Town is full of Byzantine and Gothic churches, medieval buildings, mosques, traditional fountains, oriental motifs and many boutique shops and restaurants. The highlights of the Old Town are the Palace of the Grand Masters, the Archaeological Museum housed in the Gothic building of the Great Hospital of the Knights, The Street of the Knights and some of its stunning mosques.
Kallithea is situated against a setting of world-famous spa baths and stunning beaches on the eastern coast of Rhodes. Its gorgeous inlets and coves are sprinkled with sculptured rocks and caves. Diving and snorkelling are very popular as well as the other watersports on offer. The Kallithea Spa was built in 1920 by the Italians. Following its restoration, the spa is a top sight. Many guests visit the area for its crystal clear azure waters and magical scenery.
Koskinou is famous for its beautifully painted, colourful houses and its summer festival on 17 July celebrating the name day of St Marina with music and dancing. Visitors enjoy delicious traditional cuisine in the local tavernas as well as yummy local wines. Koskinou is a colourful labyrinth of tiny, winding, cobblestone streets with fabulous splashes of red, blue, yellow, green, pink and turquoise. The facades, doors and windows of the 17th and 18th-century neoclassical houses are bright and beautiful, many with carved or etched designs. Small patios and gardens complete the pretty picture. Many of the whitewashed squares are draped in colourful bougainvillaea and other flowers. Kosinou enjoys an interesting history since the 4th century AD. Its 13th-century medieval castle and the chapels built in the 4th century are worth visiting. You will definitely leave Koskinou with lots of photos!
Faliraki Beach is the most popular and highly organised beach in Rhodes. It is more than five kilometres wide and enjoys fine golden sand, trendy beach bars, plenty of sun loungers and parasols, just about every watersport imaginable and bungee jumping. The nightlife is incredible with fabulous restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The Faliraki Water Park is brilliant fun and a very popular excursion for families.

The Island/Getting There
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.
Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.
The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.
The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.
Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:
- Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
- The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
- For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
- Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) – Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun. Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
- Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
- Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.
How to reach Rhodes island
There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.
By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesFamilies love Villa Fengari. It is very comfortable and offers exceptional outdoor space. Kids play and swim in the pool for hours and the alfresco dining and cooking area is superb. The location of the villa, close to the village and beach is wonderful.
The island of Rhodes is a wonderful pick for a family holiday. There is plenty of family-friendly entertainment on offer including sensational sandy beaches, watersports, the Faliraki Water Park, riding schools, go-karts and much more. There are many beaches to choose from, some with silvery sandy stretches and others tiny and rocky, perfect for snorkelling or diving to explore underwater life. Some of the most popular beaches are Traganou Beach, Tsambika Beach, Lee Beach, Pefkos Beach, Agathi Beach, Lindos Beach and Plakia Beach. There are many watersports on offer including paragliding, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, waterskiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, snorkelling and diving. There are many boat trips on offer including glass-bottom boat trips.
Families adore Lindos and its fascinating Acropolis where children can learn much about history. Its beach and its new Hippo Submarine with an amazing underwater air-conditioned cabin are also wonderful. Large windows in the submarine allow children to watch underwater life while remaining dry! During the trip children will learn about the ancient city of Lindos as well as watch the crew feed the fish and swim in Navarone’s Bay. It is a fantastic, very popular trip.
The Faliraki Water Park is brilliant fun and always popular with families. It is the largest water park in Greece and boasts a huge selection of extreme speed, open, closed, twisted, free fall and Kamikaze slides, a lazy river, swimming pools and a fun water playground. You can buy one, two or three-day tickets to the park.
Rhodes has a fascinating history and there are many interesting museums to visit including the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes, the Modern Greek Art Museum, The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes, the Folklore Museum, the Rhodes Toy Museum, the Bee Museum and the Filerimos Monastery.
Other popular family-friendly excursions on Rhodes are to the Rhodes Aquarium, the Farma of Rhodes Petting Zoo and the Valley of Butterflies where you will walk through the narrow forest and see the thousands of butterflies that descend during the summer and to Eleousa which is located in the lush foothills of Mount Profitis Elias.
