Location
About the surrounding area of Villa KalithiesThere is so much to see in Kalithies; it is an old city with one of the oldest written references dating back to 1474! Numerous monuments can be visited, including the Church of the ‘Transfiguration of the saviour’ and the ‘Eleousa Monastery’. These are just some of the oldest buildings, and there is plenty to see and explore. You will also find traditional coffee shops worth sampling as well as some great places to eat, one of the best butchers on the island and plenty of bakeries. And in more great news, as you’re on the border of Kalithies, you’re close to two more great towns!
Faliraki is a seaside town on the east coast of Rhodes. Naturally, this seaside town has some great beaches and rocky bays available; Anthony Quinn Bay is one such place complete with a small beach and rocky outcropping. This is a great place to explore and relax in! There are several other beaches where you can easily have a family day out relaxing on the beach! For families, you also have the Water Park complete with waterslides and a wave pool! This promises to be a fun experience for all who attend! Additionally, if you’re hoping to experience the Greek nightlife, then Faliraki has a lively nightlife available with some great clubs and spots to enjoy a great drink.
The other town you’re close to is the Medieval city centre of Rhodes towards the north of the island. Here you’ll not only find locations to enjoy some great food and drink, but you’ll also find jaw-dropping sites and monuments dripping in history and beauty. Head to Rodini Park, which is a historic park with shaded walking paths along a waterway, home to many bird species. There are also historical landmarks, monuments and ruins available to see, such as the Acropolis of Rhodes which are some famous ruins with assorted structures such as a stadium that you can see! Naturally, this historic island has plenty to see, perfect for anyone who is interested in the history of Rhodes or an ancient time!

The Island/Getting There
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.
Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.
The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.
The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.
Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:
- Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
- The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
- For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
- Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) – Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun. Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
- Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
- Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.
How to reach Rhodes island
There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.
By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Kalithies offers some great indoor and exterior space for families and children to relax and hang out having fun together. The property has a private swimming pool which offers endless fun without the overcrowding from being available to all as it’s just for you! Additionally, there is a jacuzzi for extra relaxing! You’ll find smart TVs with cable channels and Netflix connections which are great for occupying kids during down times where the weather may be overcast, or you are having some downtime from exploring and experiencing the island. Additionally, you’ll find some great parks, water parks and beaches to explore and experience on the island, perfect for families!

Amazing!
Perfect villa, beautiful inside and out. Not central but only 20 minute walk to Faliraki and there is essentials just 5 minute walk down the road. Tina met us at the Villa and made us feel very welcome. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. Would love to return again in the future!

Impressive villa
This modern, stylish villa is very well equipped and a great place to hang out for a week. The pool and outside space are both perfect for lounging and the kitchen and living areas have everything you need. It is a short walk to a nearby village with a couple of shops and restaurants and about a half hour walk to Faliraki, though this does involve a massive hill! The villa has everything from good wifi, to smart tv's, air conditioning and even toys for the pool! The villa concierge made the whole experience brilliant. She was on hand when we arrived with lots of good intelligence for places to eat and drink and was available for anything we needed whilst we we were there. She was ace and super helpful.

The Perfect Place to stay on Rhodes
The Villa Kalithes was the perfect place to stay on Rhodes. It was within close walking distance to local amenities (shops, cafe, restaurants) plus ideally located within an easy drive to Rhodes and Faliraki. The villa itself was very luxurious, very clean and well equipped, everything being new and very tastefully designed. The beds were very comfortable. and there was good air conditioning throughout the villa. The pool and outside furniture, including gas powered barbecue, were perfect for relaxing in the Rhodes heat, with shaded area and umbrella for when it got too hot!. The villa was very safe and secure with an electric gate leading to the driveway. Tina was a brilliant host, with really good and fast communication during booking. Tina then met us at the villa and was extremely friendly and helpful, giving us some great tips on where to go and eat. The villa is next to a road for light local traffic, but we did not find this an issue as there was very little noise, particularly at night. We would highly recommend this villa and certainly stay there again.
