If it's the beach-bars and nightlife you’re after, just a short drive away is the incredible beach of Faliraki - all 5 kilometres of it! The huge crowds that gather here are well justified, with tons on offer to all kinds of holidaymakers and locals alike all flocking for its laid-back Mediterranean vibes and famous entertainment!
So come for a dip or a peaceful swim in the sunshine, and stay for the cafes, bars, restaurants and even clubs that stretch along its golden sands! Truly, there’s something for everyone in this incredible spot on the dazzling eastern coast of Rhodes! It’s not just what’s on the land that counts though - with a fantastic water sports scene here, too! So perfect your surfing skills, or try your hand at sea kayaking - there’s tons to try!
Or, if you’re after a little more culture, the old monastery of the Prophet Amos is tucked on the hilltop just outside Faliraki, and only a short drive inland is the Sarantapichos archaeological site, part of an ancient acropolis although it’s history is unsure! The town also offers supermarkets, pharmacies, and car rentals so you won’t need to travel far to find anything you need!
To the north, meanwhile, with both its Medieval Old Town and its totally different new town, Rhodes Town is a unique, welcoming and enchanting city. The high walls and deep moat that surround the Old Town add to its incredible charm, and with relics of the Classical, Ottoman and Italian eras layered among its buildings, it’s a treasure-trove for any explorer! With a Medieval Old Town and a very much not medieval newer town, everyone will find something to love in Rhodes Town - whether it’s rich history, contemporary culture, thriving nightlife or peaceful cafes. There are countless buildings well worth a visit inside the great walls of the Old Town, including the Palace of the Grand Master, lovingly preserved and maintained, as well as the Archaeological Museum in the Great Hospital of the Knights.
Another fantastic site worth visiting is the stunning Lindos Acropolis, a short drive south/north. Simply magnificent ancient citadel ruins up on the hilltop, overlooking the beautiful beaches below, you can’t miss this incredible site during your stay on Rhodes! And once you’ve made the trip - why not pop over to the stunning Lindos beaches?

The Island/Getting There
Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It’s got a lot of history as it’s been invaded a lot by the Persians, Carians, Ottomans, Italians, and Germans.
Average temperatures go from 20’c in April up to 30’c in July/ August and down to 20’c in November. With an average of 85 rainy days a year they get sunshine for around 280 days.
The island is 90km long with Rhodes town at the northern tip. The airport (Rhodes International Airport "Diagoras") is also in the North (15km from Rhodes Town). Charter flights and Easyjet operate direct from the UK all season and out of season (Nov-March) you’d need to fly via Athens.
The Acropolis – The Acropolis that sits high above the town of Lindos is absolutely amazing and is a must see if you’re looking for some of the best views in all of Rhodes. One thing I should mention is that the climb up to the acropolis requires you to be somewhat active and able to climb stairs, lots of them. The trail begins through town and slowly but surely starts to get steeper as you climb the hill towards the acropolis. Once there, you’re rewarded with historical buildings dating back to 300 BC. Our Villa Corteau sit just underneath the ruins.
Rhodes has over 40 beaches, here are a few:
- Anthony Quinn’s Bay – Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the most beautiful bays. The bay is located 17km (10 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and offers some incredible photo opportunities to say the least.
- The beach at Anthony Quinn’s bay is one of the best beaches in Rhodes. Get there early if you want to snag a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy wading around the bright blue and green water. Amazing!
- For the best views of Anthony Quinn’s Bay from above, head on up to the windy road that leads up the hill just north of the bay and you’ll find a spot where you can sit and enjoy the virtually 180 degree views of Rhodes and its coastline.
- Tsambika Beach (or Tsampika) – Tsampika beach is located 30km (18 mi) south of Old Town Rhodes and is a great place to spend the day in the sun. Note: Beware there is a small section where nudists congregate on Tsampika beach
- Lakido Beach – Just opposite Anthony Quinn’s Bay is Lakido beach. It’s literally 3 minutes walking distance from Anthony Quinn’s bay so visiting both beaches in a day is totally doable. As a matter of fact, I would highly recommend visiting both if you get the chance
- Faliraki Beach – One of the most popular tourist spots on the island of Rhodes. It was known for 18-30’s holiday in the 90-2000’s but I don’t think there is that market so much now. It is quite commercialised now there are water sports and a few diving schools.
How to reach Rhodes island
There are two ways to reach Rhodes Island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: If you don’t want to lose time you can fly to Rhodes (RHO) from Athens. The flight lasts 1 hour. Many direct flights also operate from many European countries, so it will not be difficult to arrive there.
By ferry: If you choose to travel from Piraeus to Rhodes with a ferry, it will surely take you much longer but travelling with a ferry in the summer nights can be pretty enticing! The port of Rhodes is located in the southern part of the island and offers bus services to the town centre. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesFrom toddlers to teenagers, all kids love a splash about in the pool! So they’re bound love to love a stay at Sugar Cube! And with tons of loungers all around it, luxury garden seating looking onto it, and balconies overlooking it - the adults can keep an eye on them from wherever you choose to spend your time. That’s if you’re not splashing about in the pool with them, of course! But there’s so much more than this! With the lawn surrounding the sun-deck, kids will have loads of space for frolicking and running around - and that’s just the garden! Inside, the kids have loads of room for just chilling out or might even want their own space in their beautiful bedrooms.
For an unforgettable day out, the incredible Anthony Quinn Bay is just 7km away, while the world-famous Faliraki beach is just 10 minutes from the villa, and the exquisite, golden sandy beach of Tsambika is less than 20 minutes away! Across the endless miles of coastline of the beautiful island of Rhodes you can truly find beaches of all kinds, with crystal-clear waters lapping at the vast sands which stretch all the way to the horizon – or else in small bays amid the towering cliffs! There are tons of water sports to enjoy along the coast, too, or if you’re more into land based activities, why not give climbing to the highest point on the island, Mt Attavyros, a go? Be sure to take a picnic so you can enjoy a snack and soak up the stunning views and admire your hard work!
Covering more than 100,000 square meters, the Rhodes Waterpark in Faliraki is the largest in all of Greece! A fantastic mixture of high-speed slides, kamikaze drops, tunnels and more relaxing wave pools and lazy rivers ensures kids of any age (as well as the big kids of the group!) will find something to suit them in this expansive, beautiful park!
And if you’ve got nature-loving kids, be sure to visit the Valley of the Butterflies, less than half an hour away, which has an incredible array of the most spectacular multi-coloured species of all kinds, and is a fabulously tranquil and beautiful protected area for youngsters and adults alike to marvel at and enjoy a peaceful day out!
Please note that the villa is not suitable for children under 1 year.
