What you should know…
- While the villa is in an excellent location we recommend hiring a car to fully explore the area
- Santorini's towns are hilly and many streets cobbled, so not great for anyone with mobility issues.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa PicassoIt's tempting to stay by the pool, and enjoy the view and those spectacular sunsets.
Santorini is an Instagramers dream so you need to get out to explore.
The beaches are legendary, but the Red Beach is probably the most amazing.
You should visit the idyllic town of Ola with views over volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni islands.
You should do at least one tour. If you like walking, the Caldera path between Fira and Oia is a must-do; some tours cover this. There are wine tours, boat tours, such as sunset or a volcano one, where you can pool and towns to visit.
Greek food is always good, but the mashed Fava bean, 'hummus' is one of Santorini's best local foods. Santorini's Cherry tomatoes are unique, so much so they have a museum dedicated to them. Also, try the Tomato Keftedes (Tomato balls). Unsurprisingly the local fish and seafood is good too. Finally, there is Melitinia, hand-prepared pasty stuffed with local soft cheese called "anthotyro" or "myzithra". They are only made in Santorini, and they are a delicious dessert!

Getting There
How to reach Santorini island
There are two ways to reach Santorini Island: either by flight or by ferry.
By plane: The airport of Santorini (JTR) is located in the region of Kamari that is 8 km far from Thira. Santorini island is one of the most popular Greek destinations, that is why many tourists arrive on the island with direct ferries from their country. Domestic flights are available too.
By ferry: The main port of Santorini is called Athinios (JTR) and is located 9 km outside of Thira. The trip from Piraeus can last from 5 hours (if you take a speed ferry) to 9 hours (if you prefer the conventional ferry). One more thing that you should keep in mind is that Santorini is connected through various routes to the most Cyclades islands. You can easily book your ferry tickets using the link below or the booking engine.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesOnce you've exhausted all Villa Picasso has to offer such as stunning pool and giant chessboard, Santorini has some stunning swimming spots. Kids will love a boat trip, look for ones that offer a stop in the volcanic hot springs.
You should know that Santorini's natural topography isn't particularly suitable for kids. Most of the beautiful towns are stacked on hilltops, which means there are narrow pathways and steep steps everywhere you go, not great for pushchairs or prams.
Kids enjoy exploring the two towns on the island; Pyrgos is built on a hill with an old castle on top and fantastic views. Emporio is flatter and smaller, but both offer plenty of opportunities to get happily lost. The cobbled streets of Oia and Fira may also be of interest. Ice cream, crepes, and a few stories about exploding volcanoes will add to the experience.
There is the Kamari open air cinema. The movies aren't always kid-friendly, so check the schedule in advance, but they're usually popular movies in English (with Greek subtitles).
