Relax and unwind when you vacation in the Boho chic Villa Hero, located on the northeast coast of the uber-fashionable island of Mykonos, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. This luxury villa is situated in a four thousand two hundred square metre plot of private land, enclosed by a traditional stone wall, and overlooking the azure blue of the Greek Aegean Sea. Villa Hero has six ensuite bedrooms and can accommodate up to twelve guests in some comfort, and a lot of styles, ideal for a large family gathering, or a friend’s get-together.

The villa is a spacious three hundred and fifty square metres and is built over two levels, with a separate guest house. Tiered terraces are home to a private infinity swimming pool, seating and sunbathing platforms, a brand-new alfresco gym, and gardens populated by mature trees and colourful shrubs. For your peace of mind and privacy, the villa has a security guard from 11 pm until 7 am, CCTV, and safety boxes in all the bedrooms. Villa Hero comes with its own private parking spaces and includes complimentary Wi-Fi and air conditioning throughout. The villa is built out of classic Cycladic white-washed stone, and the interiors are light and airy, with a funky vibe using contemporary furniture, primary colour artwork, and a sophisticated soothing palette of cool whites, and shades of grey.

This architect-designed villa has a unique living arrangement, using independent entrances to create self-contained accommodation. On the entrance floor, there is a large open-plan seating area, with two white-covered sofas and matching stools, handcrafted wooden coffee and side tables, and woven pouffes, facing a smart television, colourful artwork, and sea views. The indoor round dining table can seat six guests with a sea view. The adjacent ultra-modern kitchen is equipped with everything you will need to cater for your holiday, including an American-style fridge freezer with a wine cooler, a large built-in oven and hob, and direct access to the outdoor eating area and barbeque. Take the stairs that lead to two double bedrooms and a guest cloakroom. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, smart TV, built-in closets, an open plan ensuite bathroom with rain shower, sea views, and terrace access. The other bedroom has built-in bunk beds, big enough for adults, and an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower.

The independent lower level has a shared kitchenette, and three ensuite double bedrooms with rain showers, each with their own entrances, that can be inter-connected to create a self-contained suite. Two of the bedrooms have two single beds, that can be converted into double beds, and the other one has a built-in queen size bed. The largest of the bedrooms has its own lounge area, sea views, and balcony access to the terrace. The sixth bedroom can be found in the separate Guest House with stunning sea views. It has a large bedroom with a queen size bed, a lounge area, an ensuite bathroom with a rain shower, and access to the pergola seating area.

Access the tiled tiered terrace through the living space where you will find an inviting step-entry fifteen metre long heated infinity swimming pool, ideal for a few lengths before breakfast. The pool is surrounded by the fattest grey cushioned sun loungers, perfect for lying back, working on that tan, and catching up with this year’s best seller. Relax over morning coffee under the shaded pergola soft seating area. Take the stone steps down to sunbathing terraces, and exercise in the sunshine in the newly installed fully equipped state of the art alfresco gym. As the sun sets, meet on the terrace for sundowner cocktails, before enjoying dining at the twelve-seater table, from Greek delicacies freshly grilled on the barbeque.

Villa Hero is located on the hillside of the village of Tourlos, on the jet-set island of Mykonos, part of the Cyclades, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The exclusive island of Mykonos measures only ten kilometres long by fifteen kilometres wide, so wherever you want to go it’s only a short drive away. The villa is just six kilometres from Mykonos airport, which is served by both local and international flight operators. If you are island hopping, then nearby Naxos and Syros also have their own airports. The coastal village of Tourlos is on the North East side of the island, and is fabulously cosmopolitan, with celebrity-spotting seafront bars and traditional tavernas, and local mini-marts to cater for all your holiday catering.

The coastline is populated with many beautiful golden sandy beaches, take your pick from nearby Tourlos to the family-friendly favourite of Agios Stephanos, or party, party, party all day long on hedonistic Paradise Beach, with its crystal clear waters, restaurants, bars, and clubs with resident DJs. During daylight hours play penance in one of the eight hundred churches that populate the island, most notably Paraportiani, which is a unique construction combining four styles of architecture, or nearby the church of St George Spilinnos, uniquely built into the cavity of the rocks. Take a visit to Mykonos old town, known locally as Chora, and only five kilometres from the villa. Here you can wander the maze of streets with the colourful Cycladic houses, and do some serious designer shopping in one of the many luxury label boutiques. Choose a table at a seafront restaurant and enjoy a dish of freshly caught seafood, whilst sipping ouzo, and watching the beautiful people pass by.

Find out the island’s history and culture at the Archaeological Museum, the Folk Museum, and the Maritime Museum, and go out slightly of town to Lena’s House to discover how the islanders lived. Take a walk up to the landmark windmills, or as they are known locally, Kato Mili, where once the wheat was ground to make bread and is now a mini museum and residencies. Walk along the waterfront to Little Venice, where the original and colourful merchant houses overhang the sea, and is now home to cafes, bars, restaurants, and galleries, best enjoyed as the sun sets with a retsina or two. Admire the Armenistis lighthouse, still fully functioning and an essential asset of Mykonos’ maritime history.

No visit to Mykonos is complete without a day at sea, join a catamaran jolly and snorkel in the sea, or charter your own yacht complete with a captain, and discover secret coves and hidden bays and beaches. For the romantics, nothing beats a sunset cruise, cocktail in hand as the sun sets over the horizon. Hop aboard a ferry for a day trip to the adjacent island of Tinos, visit the landmark Renaissance-style Church of Panagia Evangelistria, tilt at windmills, visit the fifty villages, walk the ancient fortifications, and coo at the famous dovecotes. Further afield the uninhabited island of Delos is well worth a visit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, go with a group or arrange your own private tour. And of course, you can always island hop from the new port of Mykonos, where the Aegean Sea is your oyster.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

Your kids will just love a holiday on the island of Mykonos, and there’s a surprising number of fun and family activities to keep them amused. Starting with Villa Hero’s private infinity swimming pool, and as there are no set hours they can play and splash all day. The villa is a short drive to the soft sands of  Tourlos Beach, which is situated near the harbour, and a  great place to spot ferries, motor boats and super yachts.

The coastline of Mykonos is dotted with family-friendly beaches, many of which you can book ahead. We particularly recommend nearby Agios Stefanos Beach, with organised pre-bookable sun loungers and parasols, cafes, bars, mini-marts, and shallow entry calm seas, protected from the northerly winds. Your little daredevils can enjoy a selection of water sports, from fun rides to daring speed boats. Room Anastasia Beach is a bit further north, a family-friendly beach in a beautiful bay, with wooden sun beds and shady straw parasols.

Your younger children may enjoy a visit to the Animal Organic Farm, where they can pet and feed the livestock, harvest seasonal crops, enjoy some time in nature, and keep themselves busy with some farming tasks. Whilst your older kids could take a hike over the island’s landscape, exploring the local flora and fauna, ending with a cooling dip in the sea. All the family will love a day at sea, whether it is island hopping aboard a shared Catamaran, or chartering a private yacht and discovering secret coves and hidden bays and beaches, swimming and snorkelling spotting friendly fish. For the thrill seekers, fasten your seatbelts on the Mykonos Rib boat, which whizzes around the island. Keep the creatives happy with a mosaic workshop, or a family cooking lesson with a local chef teaching you all to make traditional Greek meze.

A trip to Mykonos old town is a must and only five kilometres from the villa. Wander the winding streets, shop for souvenirs, meet Petros the Pelican, the mascot of Mykonos, and then enjoy a family-friendly meal in a seaside taverna. For your intellectually curious offspring, there’s the Archaeological Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Folk Museum, and Lena’s House, all within walking distance of the old town. A short walk along the seafront will take you to Little Venice, a pirate’s paradise of a maze of streets with colourful houses overhanging the sea. Tilt at windmills at the top of the town, the landmark of Mykonos, where they used to grind wheat and make bread for the islanders, now a mini museum and some are even residencies.

The Lighthouse of Mykonos is seven kilometres northeast of the town, and well worth a visit for the stunning sea views of the island of Tinos, and to watch the boats arriving and departing from the harbour. Who would have thought it, but Mykonos is home to the best Go-Kart track in Greece, open every day from April until November from 10 am until 2 am in the morning, which should keep them occupied all day. For those who prefer a more natural form of transport, they can mount a pony and go horseback riding in Ano Mera. If you want to venture further afield, a trip to the adjacent island of Delos is a delight, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, Apollo and Artemis, cross the water by private charter or a shared tour for a fabulous family day out.
