Overview
You will wander into the garden of Villa Koukla and understand that this is a lovely, getaway from it all retreat. With warm ambience from the beautiful stone terrace that stretches the length of the villa and the ancient olive trees, coupled with the breathtaking, panoramic views over the mountains and down towards the Bay of Keri, you will find yourself instantly relaxing. Villa Koukla is elevated on the hillside at Porto Koukla, a 5 minute drive from the busy resort of Lagunas. You can walk to the local taverna in 10 minutes which serves traditional Greek cuisine and is popular with the locals. Otherwise the seafont bars and restaurants of Agios Sostis are close by, as is the quaint Limni Keri harbour.
Villa Koukla has 3 bedrooms so is ideal for a family of 6 or a group of friends. Much of your time is bound to be spent outside. The green bay of Laganas, the island of Marathonisi and the crystal blue waters are mesmerising. You will want to be lounging on the sun beds indulging in the magnificent views or swimming in the lovely pool. As the sun goes down, you will enjoy the sunsets and feast under the beautiful branches of an olive tree using the brick barbecue.
Villa Koukla is an effortless mix of traditional and contemporary design, finished to a delightful, comfortable standard. The open-plan living space retains traditional charm with arched stone walls and a feature fireplace. The well-equipped, galley-style kitchen is open to the living space. Location
About the surrounding area of Villa KouklaPorto Koukla is small and peaceful with a few mini-markets and a popular taverna. Just 350m from the villa is Kaminia Beach in a beautiful, quiet and privileged point. Agios Sostis is a charming, traditional Greek village close by, between Laganas and Keri. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and was named after a 16th century church dedicated to Saint Sostis. The village has an attractive backdrop of the mountains with a delightful beach. Opposite lies the small island of Marathonisi, otherwise known as ‘Turtle Island’. There are some excellent bars and restaurants on the waterfront. You can hire a boat from Agios Sostis over to the island.
Limni Keri harbour is 10 minutes drive from the villa. Again it is an enchanting, small village which is on the side of Marathia Cape. It has a small pebble beach, shaded by lovely fragrant pines and local friendly taverns. Limni Keri is an ideal starting point to visit caves or the beaches of Marathia Cape. A few minutes away is the mountain village of Keri. The small streets are crammed with ancient houses. It feels like life has slowed down or stopped here.
In the other direction you will come to the very busy Lagunas resort with a thriving nightlife and great entertainment opportunities. The beach is protected due to the turtles nesting. It continues all the way along the coast to Kalamaki. Both of these resorts have many bars and restaurants although Kalamaki is more laid-back and more appealing to families. The fine, cashmere-soft sand is perfect, meeting warm, shallow water. There is a small waterpark in Kalamaki.
Vassilikos has 2 well-equipped beaches and every variety of watersports. The lush vegetation harmoniously combines with the sandy beaches to offer visitors excellent views. While it is a quiet resort, it does offer every convenience with many restaurants, bars and shops.
Alykes has a very authentic feel with intriguing salt flats, churches and a Byzantine art museum. You can rent bikes or even a horse and carriage! It is charming and lovely.

Region
An Ionian island of contrasts, Zakynthos (Zante) offers wild landscapes of olive groves and sleepy villages, iconic beaches and idyllic coves alongside bustling tourist hot-spots and long stretches of coastline with sun beds and watersports. Whether you are seeking Greek authenticity or the ease of family-friendly resorts, Zakynthos has so much to appeal to every visitor on the island.
Starting off in the capital, Zakynthos Town, enjoy a morning coffee on the vast Solomos Square overlooking Agios Nikolaos Church by the sea, then get lost in the warren of flower-filled lanes in the old quarter before shopping and dining by the waterfront. As evening nears, the town is a mecca for locals and visitors alike looking for vibrant bars and nightlife.
Head to the rugged north of Zakynthos for a wealth of hidden pebbled coves, picture-perfect swimming spots, the incredible Blue Caves and popular Navagio Beach (also known as Shipwreck Beach). Tour the natural beauty of Cape Skinari, drive to the traditional village of Volimes, bathe in the healing sulphur waters of Xigia Beach, then dine by the harbourfront in Agios Nikolaos.
A little further down the eastern side of the island, be enchanted by the traditional seaside village of Alykansas with its olive groves, vineyards and family-friendly ambience, then hop on a horse-drawn carriage to Alykes across the other side of the vast sandy bay.
Venture inland to experience the island’s wild landscapes of olive groves, cypress and pine forests, mountain slopes and the lovely scent of wild thyme. Zakynthos is wonderful for nature explorers as well as keen hikers with trails criss-crossing through the valleys.
The south of Zakynthos also awaits, so loved for its beautiful beaches and the incredible Marine Park, a protected area including Gerakas Beach, Marathonisi Island and the famous loggerhead turtles.
Bustling Laganas Beach will appeal to tourists wanting to stay near restaurants, bars and a beach with summer watersports. Meanwhile, Kalamaki is located between Laganas and Zakynthos Town, ideal for couples and families searching for a long and sandy beach, inviting places to eat and a range of child-friendly activities. For a truly memorable outing, join a sea-kayaking tour of this part of the coastline in search of the island’s beloved turtles.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesVilla Koukla enjoys a very spacious outdoor garden and terrace. It is very well suited to families with a beautiful pool. The villa is not too precious either but very comfortable for a family.
The quiet Kaminia Beach is just 350m from the villa and there are many more within 10 minutes drive or so. The fine, silvery sands and shallow, warm water of both Kalamaki and Laganas are perfect for family fun though you might need to warn little ones not to disturb the turtle nests. Both resorts have mini-golf courses and playgrounds. Caretta Fun Park, at the Caretta Beach Holiday Village Kalamaki, is open to all and has bouncy castles, a trampoline, go karts, water balls and many arcade coin games. There is also a pizzeria and a football field.
Zakynthos is a great place to hike, cycle or horse ride. There is plenty of opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the island. Horse riding with Nana’s Horse Riding Centre in Kalamaki is a great option where you can take a 1 or 2 hour tour in the mountains or on the beach to Laganas. The Centre is a lovely, friendly family business named after the founder’s daughter. You can hire cycles from many places, including Cycling Center Zakynthos Polilatadiko in Zante Town. There are 85 cycle routes to explore on the island.
Zante Town’s tourist train is a great way of seeing the town as well as being fun for children. You can hire bikes, toy jeeps and motorcycles for children at the busy Solomos Square . Just outside Zante Town you will find the Sarakinado Water Village. The ice cream parlours will be popular, as will the many different types of slides and tubes. There is also a lazy river, jacuzzi and various pools. There is a karting track next to the water village.
Tsilivi is another family friendly resort with it’s water park next to the Planos Bay Hotel. There is also a lovely beach, mini golf, a nautical museum and a pottery workshop.
Taking a glass bottom boat to spot Caretta turtles swimming around Marathonisi Island will be very popular. Alternatively you can hire your own small boat so that you visit the Keri Caves and secret beach on the rocky side of Turtle Island as well as seeing the turtles. Small boats can go inside the caves and though the arch next to the caves.
