Villa Aelius is a modern three-bedroom home in the west of the island of Ischia which lies in the Bay of Naples. This house is a stone’s throw away from a number of beaches which is apparent from the beautiful sea views from the terrace and garden.

The living spaces of the house are on the first floor to make the most of the panoramic views from the terrace and reflect the island setting in their decor. The spacious living space is made up of an open plan living and dining area with sofas, TV and a large dining table which are ideal for spending time together in the evenings. There is also a fitted kitchen on this level. The sleeping accommodation is on the ground floor of the villa and is made up of three spacious double bedrooms decorated to show the colours of the natural surroundings.

Stepping outside, in the garden, you will be in awe of the fantastic views and leafy surroundings. The focal point of the outdoor space is a private swimming pool with plenty of poolside sunloungers; the garden also has al-fresco dining areas and terraces for you to make the most of this great space.

Ischia is the largest of a collection of volcanic islands which are just an hour from Naples by ferry. The island is known for its beaches, thermal spas, botanical gardens and historic sites, all of which are easily reached from the villa. The nearest beach, for example, is just a five-minute walk away from the villa close to a selection of shops, restaurant and cafes. A few kilometres further away there are more stunning beaches, thermal spas and hiking areas.

There is plenty to see and do further out into Ischia and on the mainland which is easily reached by boat. The town of Forio, for example, is less than 3km away and is a thriving beach resort which has held onto its medieval and baroque history in monuments, churches and a fifteenth-century tower. You could also visit the capital of the island, which is actually two conjoined towns: Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte.

The island of Ischia is a unique holiday location; a beautiful volcanic island filled with its own culture and character and yet just an hour from the coast of Naples on mainland Italy. This setting means you are able to explore all the natural attractions and towns on the island and if you wish you can also spend time on the mainland.

Close to the villa, there are a wealth of amenities and places to visit, including; shops, restaurants, a supermarket and a number of beaches. Just a few minutes walk from the villa you will also find stunning botanical gardens which are filled with fountains, rare plants, tropical greenhouses and meditation areas. On top of this, there is a thermal park nearby with Turkish baths and a range of therapeutic pools. With all of these amenities and attractions so close to the villa, you will be able to spend many relaxing days in this local area.

The nearest large town to the villa is Forio which is 2.5km away and is a lovely place to visit. This coastal town has a pretty harbour, beaches and winding historic streets to explore. There are also lots of eateries to choose from including many fine dining restaurants, but make sure to spend an evening in a beachfront seafood restaurant or tiny cave restaurant which will offer traditional island cuisine and a great atmosphere.

Forio is also filled with Medieval and Baroque buildings which are great for history lovers. Torrione tower, for example, was built in1480 to defend the area from pirates! The historic tower is fascinating and also contains a museum and an art gallery these days. Another medieval building to visit is a lovely church in Forio called The Basilica of Santa Maria di Loreto which is an imposing fourteenth-century church, the building of which led to the development of the town of Forio which sprung up around the church.

Aside from Forio, there are many other towns and villages on Ischia to visit, including the capitals Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte. And of course, you can also visit the mainland with ease via ferry and spend time in the city of Naples.

On an island surrounded by beautiful coastline and long stretches of beaches, there is plenty of space for little ones to run around in nature and have a great time building sandcastles and splashing in the sea! A perfect place for a holiday with children.

On top of the beaches, on the island, there are lots of botanical gardens which are full of fascinating rare plants that kids love to look at as well as being great places to unwind with a picnic for the afternoon. Another feature of this volcanic island is the natural thermal spas, many of which have been turned into visitors attractions with the addition of a selection of pools, waterfalls and treatment centres. A lot of these parks have areas for children so are great to visit as a family.

If you head into the capital of the island Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte, make a stop at the imposing Castello Aragonese which is more like a fortified village than a castle. Children love exploring the rooms and turrets of the castle and can learn some interesting and gruesome facts on the medieval history of the site.
