Location
About the surrounding area of Villa ParavatiVilla Paravati is just a short walk from Sant’Agata Sui Due Golfi which is a small community nestled between Naples and Salerno. On one side lies the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius, on the other lies the Gulf of Salerno with the Galli islands and Amalfi coast, and just off the coast is the renowned and glamorous island of Capri.
Locally, the Monastero del Deserto has charmed travellers such as Stendhal and Goethe, and the church of Santa Maria Delle Grazie, which is known for its opulent inlaid altar, laid with marble and mother of pearl.
The region has a strong gastronomical heritage, with some multiple starred restaurants including Don Alfonso and Lo Stuzzichino, as well as cheese dairies which offer tours.
The magical, historical site of the Bagni della Regina Giovanna - famous for the legendary tale of Queen Giovanna; a natural seawater lagoon inside the old Roman ruins is worth a visit, while the area around Sorrento is rich with culture, and the elegant Amalfi coast offers so much.
For a taste of the dolce vita Positano is a wonderful picture-card perfect day trip with stunning coastal roads.
Pompeii requires a full day (and plenty of cooling drinks in the heat of the summer.) This ancient preserved town has been crystallised in time; the statues are a sobering and unforgettable sight. Parents of toddlers should be aware that the streets are cobbled; the cafe offers a good selection of ice lollies, however.
Capri is a fun boat trip away, with smart restaurants and beautiful fine sandy beaches.
Naples itself is buzzing and bustling working city; the markets, the narrow streets with their outdoor washing lines and cobbled alleyways offer a true taste of southern Italian colour and life, along with plenty of history, beautiful churches and allegedly the best pizza Italy has to offer.
Sorrento itself looks over the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Peninsula; sitting on the clifftops that separate the town from its busy marinas, it is renowned for its sweeping water views across the waters and central Piazza Tasso, the cafe-lined square.
The centre of Sorrento is steeped in history; within a warren of narrow alleys the Chiesa di San Francesco is a sight to behold; the 14th-century church in rich, opulent Italian style with tranquil cloisters.
Amalfi itself is so attractive with its ochre tones, set in a fertile region known for its fresh produce, boat trips and long sandy beaches are the tones of the day. Seafood restaurants are aplenty, as are small, little authentic towns set within the cliffs.
Whether it be hiking, fine cuisine or historical sites, this part of Italy offers opportunity in abundance. The Lattari mountains hug the Sorrentine peninsula impressively. Jazz concerts in the open air are popular in the summer months, and the renowned Museo Correale di Terranova is a must-see for art lovers.

Villa Paravati represents a holiday for parents as well! With all the stresses of travelling with children minimised, this home comes with a baby cot and high chair. The villa’s chef can provide child-friendly meals, whether these are home comforts or for more adventurous palates, while a pre-arrival grocery order is so useful to ensure the essentials such as nappies, formula milk or toddler food can all be on hand for arrival!
In this part of Italy, during the summer months, the town life comes alive of an evening, with small children all part of evening piazza life. Running around the open piazzas freely and safely in their evening wear as their parents look on from outdoor terraced restaurants.
The villa itself is ideal for children of all ages: the large pool with inflatable toys will offer hours of fun, while for those teens in the group, the gym, pool table and DVD player ensure downtime is fully covered.
Daytime siestas in the quiet, cool calm of the bedrooms will be ideal when the sun gets too much for smaller members of the group.
The Marina Grande in Sorrento is a lovely little spot for collecting seashells and chasing fish while parents sit by sipping a cool beer.
For those youngsters interested in history, curious minds will be intrigued by the gladiatorial arenas and mysterious catacombs the area is rich with. Pompeii is a trip that younger members of the group will not forget in a hurry: ancient cisterns, passageways and ghoulish cemeteries bring history to life!
Children are just adored in southern Italy and welcome virtually everywhere! The glut of museums will offer an escape from the daytime heat - namely, Museo Archeologico Virtuale where ancient ruins are bought to life with holograms and videos, or the Museo della Carta - a story of the regions fine paper making traditions.
Small visitors will simply be delighted by what is known as the best gelato in the world, and the sweet custard filled pastries and buns that the region is famous for.

A very special Villa
We had the most wonderful time here, celebrating one of our family groups big birthday. Ages ranged from 4 years old to over 65 years old. The Villa is even better “ in the flesh” than in the photos. Rooms were comfortable, well appointed and spacious. It was fabulous having the cheerful cleaners in every day. Lovely ladies. And a special mention to our concierge, Lucio. So accommodating. Met us in the pouring rain ( only time we did have bad weather in May) and took us up to the Villa. He arranged mini buses to take us into Sorrento, booked restaurants for us and always happily answered our many questions. He could not have done more for us. We used WhatsApp to keep in contact. The town is lovely and only a couple of minutes walk from the Villa. Our favourite restaurant, which Lucio recommended then booked tables for us, was Lo Stuzzichin. We went twice! Fabulous food and fun atmosphere. Overall a dream holiday with our daughters and their family. 9 of us and the Villa easily accommodated us all. Cannot recommend the Villa and Oliver’s Travels highly enough.
