The world-renowned Amalfi Coast was a playground for Rome’s emperors and continues as a playground to this day. The region’s combination of ancient historical sites, stunning natural scenery, sunshine, and fabulous food, make it one of the best holiday destinations.

First things first, start your day with a coffee and sfogliatella, a sweetly delicious pastry that will have you on your knees with the first bite. The centre of Sorrento is a short drive away, and can even be reached on foot (20-minutes) via a scenic trail. Another scenic trail which begins close to the villa runs along another scenic path to the town of Massa Lubrense which looks out over Capri. Make sure to check out local restaurant La Torre.

The Amalfi coast is not exactly famous for its beaches, but the ones that do line the coast are small, friendly, and usually relatively quiet. There are some larger ones with all the usual facilities, but they get pretty busy in July and August. Instead, head away from the regular haunts and you’re bound to find your own little secret cove somewhere along the coast. Another fun day trip is a boat tour to Li Galli Sirenuse, visiting the archipelago made up of La Castelluccia, Gallo Lungo and La Rotonda. Listen carefully and you might hear the song of the Sirens on this little cluster of islands off the coast!

If you’re feeling up to a food adventure for lunch or dinner, make the trip to Naples, the birthplace of pizza, where you can hardly go wrong. Naples is also great for its shopping. It’s mad, it’s loud, it’s insanely busy, but with so many tiny backstreets and piazzas to explore, it’s an absolute gem of a city and well worth a visit. Use public transport to get there though, as parking is notoriously limited.

History lovers can’t afford to miss the nearby sites of Pompei and Herculaneum. The volcanically preserved Roman cities are only a short distance from the villa and easily accessible via public transport (very limited parking!). One of the best ways to see the sights is with a private guide.

If you want to be thrown into the natural beauty of the area, head to the Ferrier Valley Nature Reserve. Full of lemon groves and gorgeous spring flowers, the reserve is best known for its tranquillity and its spectacular waterfalls, making this the perfect spot for a day’s hike.

Region

With a backdrop of dramatic cliffs and breathtaking sea views, Sorrento boasts a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Kids

Best Suited For: All Ages
Ideal for Kids Ideal for Teens

While the Amalfi Coast isn’t exactly stroller-friendly due to its undulating coastline, the region is certainly child friendly.

A boat trip to explore a bevy of swimming spots is a great idea for the kids, especially as it means escaping the crowds. Many of these boat tours can be organised and boarded in Sorrento – the trips tour swimming spots and offer the option of docking at Positano and Amalfi Town.

Perhaps you’re kids are less inclined to swim and more inclined to cook? Well how about a kid-friendly cooking class. The Primaluce Farm kid-friendly pizza class is a great option, encouraging kids to build their own pizza in the homeland of pizza! Or if you can’t be bothered to do the cooking, take a family-friendly food tour of Sorrento.

The region is great for hiking, and there is a number of family-friendly options, notable the Path of Lemons, which is relatively easy, paved, and boasts beautiful views.

The unrivalled experience of ancient history offered at Pompeii and Herculaneum is sure to wow the young ones. Getting to Pompeii from Sorrento is easy via the direct train, and there are many kid-friendly guides who know how to show kids around the site while keeping them entertained.
