Sitting in the heart of lush Sicilian countryside is characterful Villa Tamarici, an ancient farmhouse that has been skilfully transformed into an ideal family holiday home with an emphasis on wellness and rejuvenation. Its thorough restoration has taken care in retaining much of the farmhouse's original features, such as the thick stone walls found inside and out.

There are seven bedrooms in total at Villa Tamarici, which are found across the main villa and two separate annexes. Tiled floors, wood-beamed ceilings and whitewashed walls create a relaxed and cooling atmosphere for easily drifting off to sleep at the end of long days. Elegant and traditional pieces of wood furniture also remind you of the villa's long history and heritage.

Also full of charm is the main villa's living space, with a grand fireplace to make this sociable and inviting area feel even cosier in the evenings. Sit back and relax on your choice of comfortable sofa here - or upstairs in the mezzanine-level lounge space.

Enjoy memorable meals outside, with the scents of the garden perfuming the air as you appreciate a laid-back lunch or dinner. Adding rustic charm is a wood oven and charcoal barbecue. The dry stone-walled gardens and courtyard are dotted with typical Mediterranean trees and plants, such as olive trees, carob trees, lemon trees and prickly pears. There's also a large swimming pool for refreshing dips and a bar for refreshment of a different kind!

The owners can arrange a range of wellness sessions for you - imagine yoga as the sun-sets and meditation in such idyllic Sicilian surroundings. A local chef can prepare organic meals and trips can be organised for you to make the most of Sicily's wonderful culture, including the island's amazing cuisine.

Villa Tamarici is a rural escape that offers the best of both worlds, with the city of Modica being just a 20-minute drive away. This historic city boasts a wealth of Baroque buildings and cultural highlights, such as the Duomo di San Pietro and Museo Civico. Modica is also famous for its chocolate, with many chocolate shops to be found throughout the city.

Other towns and cities within reach for sightseeing days out include Noto, Ragusa and Syracuse. The coast is also just a 30-minute drive away from the villa, with lovely, sandy beaches at Marina di Avola and Lido di Noto.

Villa Tamarici enjoys a peaceful situation within the rolling Sicilian countryside, at the heart of the Val di Noto area, which is a UNESCO heritage site. Picturesque walks are on the doorstep, with the nearest amenities, such as restaurants and shops, within a 10-minute drive.

Great for a family day trip is the city of Modica, which is just 20 minutes away by car. This historic city is full of Baroque buildings, many of which are beautiful churches. There are two stunning cathedrals to tick off your sightseeing list: Duomo di San Pietro and Duomo di San Giorgio.

The Museo Civico is home to a collection of archaeological finds, ranging from fossils to ceramics. Another museum worth visiting is the one dedicated to chocolate, as Modica has a long history of chocolate making. You can sample some for yourself in the city's many chocolate shops.

Another historic highlight is the town of Noto with its wealth of Baroque buildings and the nearby family-friendly beach at Lido di Noto. Also on the coast is Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve. Enjoy scenic hikes with opportunities to spot a variety of Mediterranean plants and wildlife, as well as swimming in rock basins that have naturally formed within canyons.

Hilltop Ragusa has an old town with plenty of Baroque architecture to admire. Take a stroll around the lush gardens of Giardino Ibleo, a public park that offers panoramic views over the surrounding valleys.

Also visit the fascinating city of Syracuse on a longer day out. Its old town, called Ortigia, is full of atmosphere and historic buildings. The Teatro Greco is a highlight of the city, with this relatively well-preserved ancient Greek theatre still being used for performances today.

  • A fantastic week

    on 21/08/2024

My friends and I have just returned from a fantastic week spent at Villa Tamarici. Antonio, the host, was very professional, following up on our every question promptly. The Villa is situated in classic Sicilian countryside with Rosolini, Modica and Notto very close by for shopping and groceries.

Villa Tamarici is a wonderful building in the traditional style of a Sicilian villa but with modern luxuries like aircon in all the main rooms, making sleeping a pure joy and not a complete misery as is often the case in very hot country rentals. There is a great space by the pool where you can prepare food drinks and sit out, or in, enjoying meals and each other’s company due to the large dining tables. The star of the show is the great barbecue and Pizza oven facilities, of which Antonio and his Father, the charming Giorgio, were kind enough to provide tree wood to fire the oven. Speaking of which, both Antonio & Giorgio were fantastic with answering questions, providing directions and making sure our stay was as pleasurable as possible.

It would be incomplete to not give a huge shout out to the fantastic pool – it’s huge, has a great gradient from shallow to deep end so you can dive with confidence and keeps the older children entertained all week. It was fabulous and such a luxury to have a pool that size.

Lastly, we had a horrendous shock on the last day when we realised, we had lost or had stolen our daughters passport when on a day trip. Antonio first offered to search the villa for us but without luck. However, he did speak to a colleague of his at Catania Airport which almost certainly resulted in us getting a provisional document allowing us to travel that evening as planned. A true hero in our hour of need!

When we go back to Sicily we’d love to rent Villa Tamarici again for all of the reasons mentioned above but also because it is very competitively priced.

  • Highly recommended. Relaxion and luxury

    on 27/07/2023

My stay at Villa Tamarici in Sicily was nothing short of spectacular. The tranquil surroundings provided the perfect escape from our hectic lives. The host's personal touch, gifting us fresh vegetables from their farm, added a delightful local flavour to our experience. The spacious pool was a hit with our large group, creating memorable moments, especially during the birthday barbecue we hosted. The villa's charm and amenities exceeded
expectations, making it an ideal retreat in the heart of Sicily. Highly recommend for a perfect blend of relaxation and luxury.

  • This is definitely one to return to!

    on 30/09/2022

We (a party of 11- 2 families travelling with 7 children aged between 9 and 17) had a wonderful holiday at Villa Tamarici.
The villa itself is stunning: beautifully renovated and very spacious, with a huge pool and lots of different areas in the pretty grounds to sit and chat or eat, as well as a few different kitchen areas - so all the different age groups in our party were able to relax.
This is a family-run business and nothing is too much trouble for the owner. We experienced the legendary warm Sicilian welcome as we arrived late at night following a delay at the airport, but the owner and his lovely father still came to welcome us on arrival with enormous plates of glorious Sicilian food, mozzarella and fruit. In fact it was a rare day that the owner's father did not turn up at the villa with gifts of fresh fruit from their grounds or home-produced olive oil!
The owner is also very knowledgeable about the area, full of excellent restaurant and outing recommendations and he was very helpful in arranging bookings and activities for us, including a trip to a local vineyard for some wine tasting. We had a lovely and memorable holiday at Villa Tamarici- this is definitely one to return to!

  • Magnificent house!

    on 01/08/2022

We were 14 people and we stayed for 15 days in July in the magnificent house.
The welcome was perfect and the owner guided us throughout our vacation with gifts of good local products.
The house is made up of several buildings which allows a large group like us to find space and tranquillity.
The pool is amazing. I have never had a swimming pool this big and this deep. There is a large outdoor area with all the necessary equipment for cooking and eating meals.
Located in a corner of the countryside, we found all the tranquillity we expected. Thank you for these good times.

  • One of our most beautiful holidays!!

    on 31/08/2021

The atmosphere of this villa is welcoming and characterized by the extremely friendly owners. We were well cared for by them with fresh vegetables (peppers, eggplant, onions) and fresh herbs from our own cultivation. On the last evening the owners invited us to eat ice cream and drink wine.
The villa is perfect for a larger group (we were there with our family of seven, but there would have been room for some friends) the grounds are very large, the buildings are modern and spacious. The pool is great with 19m length and always clean! We mainly used the well-equipped outdoor kitchen (with its own pizza oven! and barbecue). The whole house is air conditioned, so you could spend even hot days there.
It was one of our most beautiful holidays!!

  • Just amazing!

    on 31/08/2020

The spaces are large and well-kept both inside and outside and the kitchen with bar near the swimming pool allows you to enjoy the garden from breakfast to dinner. The owners welcomed us with ice cream and sparkling wine and were extremely helpful throughout the week advising us on places to visit and restaurants: one evening they even offered us delicious local products by helping us prepare dinner and barbecue in the large barbecue in the garden ...a place so pleasant to live that you almost don't want to go out to go to the beach or to dinner!

  • Such a pleasant place!

    on 07/08/2020

The villa is immersed in the beautiful and characteristic Sicilian countryside, the location is strategic for visiting the south-eastern part of the island.

  • Perfect accommodation

    on 15/08/2019

We had a wonderful two week vacation here. The villa is perfect - we loved the separate sleeping huts and the outdoor kitchen, the pizza oven and the pool were amazing. The accommodation is perfect. We visited Modica, Ragusa, Syracusa and Scicli which were close by. Also Catania and Mount Etna. The owners were very welcoming and hospitable - taking us on a shopping trip of the local farms and shops as well as bringing local foods and drinks to sample on a daily basis.
