Overview
In an enviable position overlooking Lake Como, Villa Safira is a true sanctuary. Blessed with incredible views of the lake and surrounding mountains, the villa sits in an elevated position in a green landscape, with other secluded houses scattered nearby among the trees and abundant nature. Wind down in the steam room and sauna after a day’s hike in the Lombardy hills, or simply kick back on the terrace whilst you take in the lake views.
Villa Safira has many well thought out design elements that guests will love, including sliding glass doors that make the most of the panoramic view, a retractable canopy on the terrace so you can enjoy the outdoors no matter whether you’re a lover of sun or shade, and the bedroom even boasts a delightful in-room hydromassage bath, for a touch of indulgence. A dream for real spa lovers, the villa also features both a sauna and steam room, and the house overall features attractive design touches such as rustic stone walls, a wooden beamed ceiling in the airy kitchen and a clean, modern look throughout.
The garden is spacious and has uninterrupted views of the lake, whilst trees and shrubs fringe the property to enhance the landscape and provide a delightfully soft effect. A lazy afternoon in the garden can be enjoyed by all, which of course wouldn’t be complete without an al fresco lunch, which in Italy is a lunch like no other. Fire up the barbecue and effortlessly throw together a delicious feast of local meats and flavoursome veggies, all grilled to perfection.
Rock climbing is a popular pastime in the immediate area – simply walk a minute or two from the villa towards the lake and you will find Ferrata Galleria di Morcate, a site that keen climbers will love. Less than a 10 minute drive away, Varenna is a convenient option for groceries, bars and restaurants, or just half an hour away by car is the bustling town of Lecco, where you can find shops, eateries and monuments galore.
A must visit is the city of Como, an hour’s drive away. Take a sunset walk along the promenade, check out the stunning architectural sites which are so easy to enjoy between grabbing refreshments in the city’s abundance of bars, cafés and restaurants, or treat yourself to a designer shopping trip, something for which Como is justifiably famous. All in all, this sophisticated city by the lake is a real gem.

Access to the house is via a rustic country road, and pretty lakeside beaches are within a 15 minute hike through the hills.
Less than a 10 minute drive away from the villa you’ll find the wonderfully preserved mediaeval town of Varenna, home to many shops, churches and cathedrals, as well as bars and restaurants with their own gorgeous lake views. Take a stroll down the ‘Walk of Lovers’, the promenade that fringes the shores of Lake Como, where you can watch the boats as they come into land. Here you can even take a boat tour out onto the lake, or simply wander the winding streets to take in the beautiful architecture of the town. Be sure to include Villa Monastero, a charming botanical garden and museum that was previously a monastery and is now home to many rare species of plants. The crowning glory of Varenna is Castello di Vezio, an ancient fortress at the top of a hill overlooking the town. The fortress has knockout views and is well worth the climb.
The stunning gorge and waterfall of Orrido di Bellano is also 10 minutes away by car and is a popular choice for sightseeing, or enjoy discovering the town of Lecco, half an hour’s drive away, with its pretty waterfront, piazza squares which are perfect for a leisurely coffee, and the town’s famous octagonal bell tower that stands at nearly 100 metres tall.
Around an hour from the villa by car is Como itself, a gloriously scenic city destination that is bound to please. Here you will discover cobbled piazzas, the fantastically gothic Como Cathedral, the wonderful outdoor market at Porta Torre (be sure to check which days it is on before you go!), and of course plenty of cafés, bars and shops to lose an afternoon in. Indeed, shopping in Como is hard to resist – from craft store bargains to high end luxury, you will find it all here!
Milan is around 80km and is a must-see when visiting Italy's Lombardy region. High-end restaurants, luxury shopping and and grand architecture await, while the city's Duomo is also not to be missed.

Region
Nestled in the picturesque Lombardy region of northern Italy, Lake Como is a true gem, known for its breathtaking natural beauty, charming villages, and historic allure. This enchanting destination has long been a playground for the rich and famous, but its appeal extends far beyond the glittering surface. With its stunning Alpine backdrop and crystal-clear waters, Lake Como offers a mesmerising escape for all who visit.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesTake the kids to Castello di Vezio in Varenna, less than a 10 minute drive away. This medieval fortress is home to a permanent exhibit all about the Lariosaurus - Italy’s very own Loch Ness Monster! Birds of prey are also trained at the castle, so if you’re lucky you may spot one. Another popular family option is to catch a ride on Como’s scenic funicular railroad, the Funicolore Como-Brunate, for an exciting climb up the mountain from Como to the village of Brunate. The view from the top is utterly breath-taking, and you can also take walking trails from here into the surrounding hills.
For a magical and unique experience, a 40 minute hike from the villa is Orrido di Bellano, a beautiful natural canyon with a waterfall that sometimes forms rainbows, accessible by a network of footbridges. The canyon is also reachable by car and is around a 10 minute drive away; be sure to check the route before you go, as some roads may have restricted access.
