Perfect for a couple’s romantic getaway, this detached stone dwelling has been sensitively restored to create a charming holiday home set in a lovely garden with olive trees, a stone barbecue and enchanting views of the sea.
Overseen by a local architect and keeping with the strict regulations of the Cinque Terre National Park, the original stone façade remains whilst traditional materials have been used in its renovation such as Ligurian plaster, chestnut wood beams and stone from northern Italian mountains, pretty green Genovese shutters and local slate for paving.
Inside, air-conditioned Casa Rabarbaro has been stylishly furnished with designer pieces and lighting across the open-plan living and dining room, contemporary kitchen, bathroom with walk-in shower and gorgeous bedroom upstairs with a king-size bed and terrace overlooking the natural surroundings.
Enjoy good coffee or Ligurian wine on your terrace, then sit back on the sun loungers facing the bay with the most glorious of views. The traditional stone barbecue is ideal for al-fresco feasts and the olive trees add to the Italian charm – it feels very special to have your own garden with the sights and scents of laurel, juniper, jasmine and more.
In a rural setting on a hill with just a small handful of other dwellings nearby, follow the winding road down to the coast and within 3km you will find yourself in the pretty coastal village of Le Grazie with restaurant terraces overlooking the harbourfront and a range of summer boat trips.
Continue on to Porto Venere, 6km away, and soak up village’s romance and charm as you stroll by the colourful houses, dine out in characterful restaurants and admire its churches and historic sites. From here, seasonal boat trips whisk you away to the villages of the Cinque Terre, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore, for more incredible landscapes in one of the most famous regions of Italy.
What you should know…
- Casa Rabarbaro is for two guests only. No pets are allowed and the owner does not have a cot or highchair.
- Located on a winding road on a hill, a car is necessary to be able to reach restaurants, shops, marina and other amenities.
- This charming accommodation does not have a pool, making it perfect for beach enthusiasts. The nearest beach is just a 10-minute drive away, with additional beaches easily accessible within 30-40 minutes by car.

About the surrounding area of Casa RabarbaroWith views across the bay towards the Golfo dei Poeti, this charming detached stone villa is located a short distance from beautiful Porto Venere and is a fantastic base for exploring the world-famous Cinque Terre villages.
Casa Rabarbaro is surrounded by nature, set on a hill reached from the coast via a winding country lane. This is a rural setting with only a handful of other dwellings close by, on the edge of the protected Cinque Terre National Park.
By car, follow the twisting road down the hill towards Le Grazie (3km), a pretty fishing village located between La Spezia (12km) and Porto Venere (6km). Discover restaurants and colourful houses lining the marina, a small supermarket, pharmacy and an attractive promenade area with benches, pines and palm trees. Take time to visit the remains of the Villa Romana del Varignano, dating back to the 1st century B.C. and the Nostra Signora delle Grazie church. Seasonal boat tours depart here as well as a regular services (July/August) to La Spezia, Lerici, Fezzano, Cadimare and Porto Venere. There are also a couple of small town beaches.
Continue on to experience the beauty of Porto Venere (6km) with its characterfully coloured houses lining the waterfront, inviting restaurants serving Ligurian specialities, beautiful churches and a wealth of historic sites including the spectacular castle. Ferries whisk you away to the famous Cinque Terre villages - Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare.
For hiking enthusiasts, join the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre trail from Porto Venere for incredible scenery or walk along the shorter route between Le Grazie and Porto Venere. Other experiences across the region include cycling, mountain biking, rock-climbing, scooter hire and a variety of water-based activities across the coastline. Ligurian wine-tasting and cookery classes can also be arranged.
The island of Palmaria is also wonderful for keen hikers, cyclists and nature enthusiasts – the island is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is part of the Porto Venere Nature Park. The local flora and fauna is fascinating and there are enchanting caves to explore amongst the steep cliffs. Reach the island by boat from Porto Venere and, in the height of the summer, Le Grazie.
Away from Porto Venere and the Cinque Terre, drive past La Spezia towards the heart of the romantic Golfo dei Poeti with gems such as San Terenzo (18km), Lerici (22km) and Tellaro (25km).
Further afield, you could even spend the day in the exquisite Tuscan town of Lucca (88km), venture to the artistic city of Florence (164km) or head north to Portofino (95km) and Genoa (118km) – consider the train to some of these destinations from La Spezia Centrale (11.5km).
