Location
About the surrounding area of Villa MunaWell-situated in the picturesque town of Monforte d’Alba, Villa Muna is in the heart of The Langhe, a region famous for its wines, cheeses, and truffles. Made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014, the Langhe and its hills are a spectacular destination for wine lovers, foodies, hikers, and cyclists. The region is particularly famed for its Barolo and Barbaresco wine varieties.
Monforte d’Alba is the perfect base from which to taste and explore Piedmont, but it is also a delightful spot in and of itself, especially for wine lovers and foodies. Grappolo d’Oro is a restaurant on the main piazza that is the perfect place for a long lunch or a leisurely dinner. Similarly, Le Case della Saracca, a restaurant carved into the hill with caverns for rooms and a marvellous wine collection. Of course, there is also the Michelin starred Marc Lanteri Restaurant located in the stunning Castello di Grinzane Cavour.
Just outside of Monforte are the world-famous rolling hills of Barolo where world-class hiking takes place between vineyards. So put on your hiking boots or your tasting hat, or both, and head out to explore the local vineyards. There’s Simone Scaletta (6-minute drive), one of the few biodynamic vineyards in the region, and others in easy reach are Cantina La Briacca winery (4-minute drive), Pecchenino societa Agricola (6-minute drive), and Azienda Agricola Abbona Marziano (8-minute drive). Which is to say there’s no shortage, so take your pick!
Turin (60-minute drive) is the closest major city and certainly worth the visit. Boasting grand boulevards, classical ruins, world-leading museums, and grand cafes, the capital of Piedmont is like a niche, Italian version of Paris. After visiting some of the main squares like Piazza San Carlo, there is a rich and eclectic offering of sights and activities on offer. From the Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista which houses a shroud said to have enveloped the body of Christ, to the Mercato di Porta Palazzo, the largest open-air market in Europe, with fabulous food stalls and attractive prices.

Region
The Piedmont region, nestled in the northwestern part of Italy, is a captivating destination that seamlessly combines natural beauty, historical charm, and culinary excellence. With its picturesque landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse range of activities, Piedmont is a must-visit region that leaves an indelible impression on all who venture here.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe Langhe region is rich with activities that are fun and interesting to the whole family, such as truffle hunting! Imagine a day hiking in the Barolo hills with some energetic dogs nosing their way to the area’s famous white truffles.
In nearby towns there are also some fantastic attractions for the little ones. From Cherasco (25-minute drive) where you can find the Museum of Magic and attend a live magic show, to Montelupo Albese (28-minute drive), a small village with a particular (and particularly recent) tradition of painting the walls of their houses with scenes from famous fairy tales. Walking through these old houses the kids will see Little Red riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs, the wolf, and more.
Turin’s Museo Egizio (Egyptian Museum) is surely one, if not the, greatest museum in the city. Boasting four floors, this is the second largest Egyptian museum on the world after the Cairo Museum. If your kids are anything like I was at a young age, the allure of Ancient Egypt will run strong, and in the Museo Egizio the kids can immerse themselves in room after room of statues, sarcophagi, mummies, art, mythology, and ritualistic history.
Car-fanatic kids will surely want to pay a visit to Museo dell’automobile, which boasts approximately 200 cars from 80 brands, including some of the world’s rarest. And while it may not be well known, Turin is the birthplace of Italian cinema, and as such it is home to the National Museum of Cinema. At first this may not seem the most interesting thing for the little ones, but that’s only until they encounter some of the Star Wars memorabilia on show, including some of the helmets from the custom department.
With a bunch more interesting exhibits on show, this is a bit of a dark horse but a fun and educative experience. Something else for the whole family in Turin is Parco del Valentino, not just a wonderful park for picnics and strolls, but also home to a recreated medieval village that was created in 1884.
