Location
About the surrounding area of Masseria TamarindoLying between Puglia’s sweeping coastline and the ancient city of Lecce, Masseria Tamarindo enjoys an enviable setting close to a wealth of historic attractions and quaint villages. Guests can unwind in the garden but also reach the closest village in just a few minutes.
Many people are drawn to this part of Italy for the incredible beaches, the closest of which is only 11km away. Baia dei Turchi is one of the nearest beaches to the villa at 15km away and is a fantastic place to spend a day sunbathing. Framed by dazzling limestone cliffs, the sea is protected from the elements, so it has few waves, making it great for a swim. You will also find several restaurants near the bay where you could stop off for lunch. Just through the dense pine forests, you could also visit Alimini Beach, a tourist favourite.
As well as a delightful coastline, Puglia boasts rolling countryside and wide-open spaces where you can make the most of the great weather and spend some time outdoors. If you enjoy sports, within 10km of the home, you can find Acaya Golf Club, tennis courts, a range of water sports and horse riding. The landscape is also crisscrossed with scenic walking and cycling routes so that you can make memories in the natural surroundings with your group.
If you would like to go out for breakfast or grocery shopping, the nearest amenities can be discovered in Carpignano Salentino, a pretty, historic village just 3km away. Though small, the village has long been an important stopping point on the Via Francigena pilgrim trail, as you can tell from the churches, shrines and monuments scattered around the streets. The village also has a supermarket, some gift and grocery shops and a selection of restaurants, from traditional eateries to relaxed pizzerias.
You could drive 17km to Otranto, a bustling port town, for a wider range of shops and restaurants. The town was built during the Norman period, so it is steeped in history. You can learn more about the history and the countless invasions the town suffered on a visit to the fantastic pentagonal castle. Other attractions include a beautiful cathedral, the lighthouse, the clocktower and the church of San Pietro, which is decorated with Byzantine art. Some incredible beaches also line the town, while the streets and piazzas are filled with cafes, bars, restaurants and artisan shops.
Another place you should add to your itinerary is Lecce, a 32km drive away. Lecce is Puglia’s most attractive city and has plenty to see and do. An excellent place to start would be booking a spot on a guided walking tour. Some of the must-see buildings in the city include; the Basilica di Santa Croce, an ornate Baroque church, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Castle of Charles V, which dominates the city's skyline. Lecce has something for everyone, from modern art galleries to Puglia’s best antique market, plus a wide range of restaurants and bars where you can refuel after a busy day.

Best Suited For: All AgesMasseria Tamarindo sleeps 10-12 guests and perfectly suits those travelling with children. As the home offers spacious living areas, a vast garden and is surrounded by private grounds, this is an idyll for little ones who will love running around and playing together outdoors.
Puglia is filled with charming villages and towns that you can explore together as a family, one excellent choice is Otranto which is 17km away. The town's main attraction is the staggering Aragonese castle built in the 15th century on the site of a much older castle. Kids will love wandering around the towers and rooms of this huge military castle enclosed by a moat. There are art exhibitions and events held here throughout the year too. When in Otranto, you are also near the pristine Alimini Beach, one of the most beautiful in the area. The beach is 9km from the castle, so visiting both in a day is possible.
