Overview
Located amidst cherry and olive trees in sweeping Puglian countryside just 4km away from the town of Castellana Grotte you will find Trulli Piovanello. This 19th-century trullo is an incredible home, typical of those found only in this area, and has been lovingly restored to create the perfect blend of old and new.
As you approach this dazzling white home you will see a house of two halves; the restored complex of 5 trulli buildings with their traditional cone-shaped roofs and the adjoining modern extension which is connected via a glass walkway. The accommodation is thoughtfully distributed across the main trulli, a charming stone tower and a modern extension that house the living room and kitchen. The five cones of the trulli offer a spacious entrance hall, a double bedroom with a private en-suite bathroom and a cosy alcove with two single mattresses (can be converted into a double bed) ideal for children as it does not have a door. There is also another large bathroom with a shower.
From the trulli a corridor with glass walls leads to the modern extension, which includes a stylish living room, a fully-equipped kitchen and conveniently a guest bathroom with laundry facilities. The autonomous stone tower, separate from the other two buildings, is spread across two levels. On the ground floor an entrance with a small hallway and a bathroom. Upstairs you will find the final double bedroom. Both levels are connected by an internal staircase but each has its own private entrance.
The garden is a wonderful oasis in which every detail has been perfectly thought out; from the internal courtyard which houses an ancient olive tree, to the fabulous glass-sided infinity pool.
Despite being set in a rural landscape; the villa is only 4km away from Castellana Grotte which is the nearest town. The town is named after the amazing prehistoric cave network which you can also visit and was once a medieval feudal estate owned by local lords. Lots of the medieval buildings remain, including the town hall and the Santuario Madonna della Vetrana church.

Location
About the surrounding area of Trulli PiovanelloTrulli Piovanello is situated in an idyllic rural location close to some incredible towns and some of Italy’s finest beaches. From your base at the villa you will be able to discover the best of Puglia.
Castellana Grotte is the closest town and is just 4km away. With a selection of shops, bars and restaurants this is a great place to visit for your morning coffee or to go shopping for ingredients for dinner. The town also has a charming historical centre filled with medieval buildings which you can visit such as the Chiesa di San Leone Magno which has stood for almost 1000 years.
This area is best known for the enchanting system of caves called Grotte di Castellana which is a mere 5.5km away from the house. The ancient cave trails continue for miles underground and are filled with fossils and beautiful natural rock formations. There are a few different routes that can be followed through the caves and a tour guide will walk with you to point out interesting details along the way.
If you wish to find a quieter spot for a swim then there are lots of other beaches within easy reach, such as Ponte dei Lapilli. After spending time at the beach, head inland and wander around the pretty streets of the town where you can pop into a gallery or museum to avoid the heat of the afternoon.
Also close by and not as busy as Polignano a Mare is a town called Monopoli which is 18km from the house. Monopolo was initially settled by the ancient Greeks but has been invaded and overtaken many times throughout its fascinating history. You will not fail to notice the vast Castello Carlo V which was built in the 1500s during a period of Spanish occupation. Another local landmark is the ornate Cattedrale Maria Santissima della Madia which is one of the oldest cathedrals in all of Italy and is filled with artwork and intricate carvings. If you stay in Monopoli for dinner, visit the thriving port for some freshly caught seafood.
