Villa Rhodiola is a modern and spacious 7-bedroom home surrounded by ancient olive groves in the region of Puglia. Nearby you can visit rocky bays, villages and charming towns with ease making this a perfect place to stay on a trip with friends or family.

Approaching the home you will see a typical Salento farmhouse. This attractive villa is actually new but has been lovingly constructed in this traditional style to fit seamlessly in to the landscape. The home is enveloped by olive trees which are hundreds of years old and by vibrant red earth and native plant life.

As you enter the home, the traditional style of the exterior gives way to chic, contemporary interiors which have been decorated in calming tones and furnished with the highest quality pieces. On the ground floor you will find a comfortable living room with a sofa and TV for cosy nights in and a stunning green feature kitchen which opens up on to the covered al-fresco dining area where your party can tuck into an Italian feast and talk the night away.

When you need to rest after a busy day of sightseeing then there are 7 bedrooms you can choose from, spread over the ground and lower-ground floors. All of the rooms have been decorated in a light and neutral palette with little splashes of colour which flows through to the en-suites. Each of the bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and one of the rooms even has an inviting freestanding bath.

With the Mediterranean climate, you are sure to want to make the most of the outdoor space which is a terrific feature. Enjoy the 2 hectares of landscaped gardens which come with a dining area, outdoor kitchen, comfy seating and of course the infinity pool with hydromassage feature and amazing views!

If you need to pick up some groceries or you would like to nip out for lunch, then the nearest village is just a 1.5km walk away with shops, cafes and restaurants.

Make sure to visit Acquaviva di Marittima, a gorgeous bay enclosed by rugged cliffs and wild flowers with clear water for swimming and snorkeling. Head inland to the village where you can visit the medieval convent, wander through the park and the winding streets and visit a traditional trattoria for an evening meal.

There are a number of larger towns in easy-each of the villa too such as Castro which is a must-visit coastal destination known as the “pearl of the Salento” and is a mere 5km away or Tricase which is 8.5km away and has a wealth of historic attractions to see. If you would like to head out a little further for the day then why not drive to Lecce which is the main city on the Salento peninsula and is 47km away.

Villa Rhodiola is situated in the idyllic location of Puglia in Italy’s heel. With a selection of historic towns and villages nearby, this is a wonderful villa for a holiday exploring with family or friends.

The villa sits amidst swathes of centuries-old olive groves and typical Apulian red-earthed farmland. You are not cut off however as the nearest village is just 1.5km from Villa Rhodiola. It is a calm, traditional style village with shops, restaurants and bars within easy reach. The village is filled with historic architecture as you will see from the 14th-century Spinola-Caracciolo castle which dominates the landscape. The castle once protected the locals from invasion but now it can be visited on guided tours and also holds regular fetes and village events. There are also lots of beautiful medieval churches around the village which you can explore, such as the Chiesa Santa Maria Maddalena.

When you want to head to the sea, there are plenty of rocky bays/cliffs to choose from like Marina di Andrano, or if you would prefer a beach club with sun loungers and a bar then try Swim Liberi di Nuotare. The nearest sandly beach can be found in Otranto (25km). This coastline is also dotted with enchanting caves such as Grotta Verde which you can swim inside to see the stunning interiors and cave formations.

Another lovely place to visit is Tricase which is a large town just 8.5km away from Villa Rhodiola. Tricase is a wonderful place to visit for history lovers as it is filled with Roman, medieval and Baroque buildings. The town has an impressive 5 castles including the 16th-century Caprarica castle in and around the center as well as museums, convents and ornate ancient churches where you can learn more about the history of this area. Start off at the beautiful main square, the Piazza Pisanelli and follow the labyrinth of old streets as you pop in to the historic buildings, ideal for escaping the midday heat. You will also find plenty of places to eat and drink here, ranging from small cafes to trendy bars. Head down to Tricase Porto which is the coastal area of the town for protected award-winning beaches, walking routes and the pretty port.

Castro is 5km away from the villa and is the largest local town, known as the “Pearl of the Salento”. Perched on a cliff top looking out at the sea, Castro is an imposing fortress town with a very long history; settled by Ancient Greeks, followed by Romans and then Normans. These past inhabitants have left their marks on the town in the form of ruins and buildings which you can spot as you walk the postcard-like streets. Some of the key sights include the vast castle and its towers and the 12th-century Romanesque style cathedral. Aside from the charming old town which is packed with historic attractions and eateries, the marina is the place to be. You can find quaint seafood restaurants and bars which overlook the sea in the marina and of course boats which can take you on trips around the coastline and in to stunning caves such as Grotta Zinzulusa which is the biggest in the area.

If you would like to explore the region further then why not drive to Lecce which is 47km away, Santa Maria di Leuca which is 25km away or even Salento which is 73km away.

If you are looking for a fantastic holiday where you make lasting memories with your children then Puglia is definitely a great place to visit. Beloved by Italian families, this beautiful area is lined with endless beaches and has plenty of family friendly towns and attractions to visit.

An exciting option for a day trip with the children is to take a boat trip to see some of the amazing caves which Puglia is known for. If you drive to Castro marina which is 5km away from the villa, you can set sail on a half-day voyage headed by a knowledgeable guide. The boat will take you along the shoreline, popping in to some of the most enchanting caves along the way, including the famous Grotta Zinzulusa which is filled with impressive cave formations and even an internal lake. The boat will also stop off at scenic swimming spots and drinks and snacks will be provided on board, a real adventure for your whole party.

If visiting Castro town then make sure to take the kids to the castle. Built in the 12th century, this huge castle has been the site of many battles and the children can experience history close-up by walking around the expansive walls and towers. The castle now also houses an archaeological museum with artifacts from Greek and Roman settlers, through to things owned by medieval lords who once controlled the area.
