Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesApartment Alessia is ideal for a family wanting to explore Rome. Children can sleep on the mezzanine level with a third child sleeping on the sofa in the living room if necessary. The central location of the apartment is wonderful.
Rome is fantastic for children. Not only can they learn a lot about history, but there are also some brilliant attractions that bring joy. The Italians have a soft spot for children, and it is very easy to explore with them in tow.
Villa Borghese is an attractive one hundred and ninety-eight-acre park that is home to the city zoo with over two hundred species of animals spanning five continents as well as a modern art gallery and a museum. You can rent single or tandem bikes on Pincio Hill or hire a canoe for a leisurely hour on Giardino del Lago’s scenic lake. There are numerous playgrounds and Casina di Raffaello, a children’s play centre.
Children are also fascinated by the city’s underground attractions. The Basilica di San Clemente is a 12th century basilica resting atop a 4th century church, perched over a 2nd century pagan temple and 1st century Roman house. Below that layer of history are the Catacombs of San Callisto, a tangled maze of tombs where early Christians were laid to rest. There are some amazing frescoes and paintings adorning the catacombs.
Dining with children in Rome is as easy as it comes. Pizza comes by the slice or whole and is delicious. Every type of pasta is offered with hundreds of toppings and sauces but favourite of all are the gelaterias with their delicious flavours.
Shopping is good with children too. They love bringing souvenirs home and the brilliant Citta del Sole is a wonderful shop with toys from around the world, both handmade and famous brands.
