Overview
Nestled in expansive private grounds and overlooking the Tuscan countryside, Re Giocondo is a traditional farmhouse-style home with a modern edge. It has been renovated to the highest of standards. With space for up to 17 guests, this is an idyll for those wishing to holiday with extended family or a large group of friends.
The welcoming home is spread between the main villa and a cottage just a few steps away. The villa can sleep ten guests, with the cottage accommodating four spaces offering a neutral colour palette, high-quality furnishings and details such as fireplaces and exposed beams. You will be okay with which building you are staying in.
The villa is set over three floors; in the cellar, there is a wine-tasting area and an exhibition area for serving locally cured meats. The ground floor is the heart of the home, where you will find a large living room with comfy sofas gathered around a fireplace and a Smart TV. Adjacent is the spacious dining room where your whole party can be seated together for meals. The kitchen is fully-fitted and offers all the crockery and appliances you will need to prepare drinks and dinner. The first floor boasts three double bedrooms and two bedrooms with a double bed and a single bed, each with elegant en-suite bathrooms.
The cottage is the ideal spot for a family with two children or two couples to share. On the ground floor, there is an open-plan room with a double sofa bed, kitchenette and dining table, while on the first floor, there is a triple bedroom with a double bed, single bed and an en-suite bathroom.
On the grounds, guests have access to a gym which offers views over the garden, and there is also a luxurious spa area where you can book and treat yourself to a massage, use of the sauna, Turkish bath and jacuzzi.
The garden here is a beautiful place to relax, with lawned areas, flower beds, established trees and a vegetable garden. There is also a private swimming pool and numerous outdoor dining tables to make the most of the fantastic weather. Surrounding the garden is an additional 30000m2 of fenced woodland where guests can enjoy a picnic lunch in a wonderful setting or go for a stroll.
Close to the villa, you can unwind and walk the nearby hill trails. Discovering the landscape by bicycle or horseback is also possible.
Another great way to spend time outdoors is to tour a local vineyard. One option is the Baracchi Winery, which is 20km from the villa. This centuries-old vineyard holds tours and wine-tasting events and boasts a Michelin-star restaurant and a luxurious spa, meaning you could spend a whole day there.
The closest village to the home is Foiano della Chiana, just 5km away. The pretty village has a good selection of shops and restaurants plus historic attractions you can discover. For a more extensive selection of eateries, markets, castles, museums and shops, you could visit Cortona, 21km away or Montepulciano, 27km away. The picture-postcard city of Siena should also be added to your itinerary and is set 51km away from the villa.

Location
About the surrounding area of Re GiocondoRe Giocondo is a stunning home that accommodates 14 guests between the elegant main villa and a neighbouring cottage. Nestled in the hills near the Val di Chiana, the house offers a perfect base where you can explore authentic Tuscan villages and towns or get away from it on a walk through serene ancient woodlands.
Vast swathes of private parkland and agricultural land envelop the villa. Nearby, there are wineries you could visit for wine tastings and farms that produce rich olive oil. You can also visit Lake Trasimeno's lake beaches, just 30km away by car. This large lake is a much-loved attraction where you can paddle in the clear water, sunbathe and watch the little ones play. Boat trips are available around the lake and water sports such as paddle boarding, which is great fun for all ages.
You do not need to go far to find the closest craft shops, supermarkets and eateries located 5km away in a village called Foiano della Chiana. The village is home to the longest-running carnival in Italy, which was first held in 1539! Held between January and February each year, this five-day-long event is a beautiful thing to be part of if you happen to be staying during the cooler months. Aside from the carnival, Foiano della Chiana is known for its winding historic centre, which sits in the shadow of the Torre Civica, built in the 700s. You can also visit a former Medici family hunting lodge called the Palazzo con Logge and the town hall, which is housed in the sumptuous Palazzo Pretorio and several historic churches.
For a more extensive selection of restaurants and shops, why not drive to Cortona, 21km away? Cortona is a walled, hilltop town which sits 500 metres high, overlooking the staggering Val di Chiana. There is a lot to see and do in Cortona, an ancient town originally an Etruscan settlement. Today, the town's rich history can be seen in its architecture, which comprises medieval and Renaissance buildings. History lovers will enjoy visiting the Palazzo Casali, an 8th-century palace that now houses a local history museum. You can also see the original town gates, the Fortress del Girifalco, which Cosimo I de Medici constructed and peruse the exhibitions at the Diocesano Art Museum.
It would be a shame to visit this part of Tuscany and not spend the day getting to know the delightful city of Siena, which is 51km away and takes under an hour to drive to. As Siena is a small city that is easy to navigate on foot, you can see the highlights in a day and immerse yourself in the café culture by sipping a cappuccino al-fresco by the stunning Duomo. The Palazzo Publico town hall and its 800-year-old tower are also must-see attractions.
