Location
About the surrounding area of Apartment PippaApartment Pippa is located in the enchanting and romantic city of Florence, an area bursting with rich art and architectural masterpieces on the banks of the Arno River in north-eastern Tuscany. Largely unchanged since the renaissance, the narrow-cobbled streets here are lined with elegant 15th and 16th century palaces, marble basilicas, candle-lit chapels and world-famous art museums overflowing with works by Botticcelli, Michelangelo and their ilk.
While lovers of art and culture will be in their element here, so too will fans of fashion, as Italy’s famous and flourishing fashion industry was born right here in Florence, with Gucci and Ferragamo being among some of the homegrown designers who opened haute couture boutiques in the city during the 1920s. Shopping here in the Tuscan capital has been prevalent ever since, with many stylish fashion houses still here, alongside specialist boutiques, family-run workshops, and fourth-generation shoemakers and goldsmiths.
Italy and good food go hand-in-hand, and dining in Florence is a timeless and memorable experience, with gourmet restaurants, family-run food trucks and market trattorias aplenty. The culinary vibe here is contemporary, fresh, and exciting, with visitors able to enjoy raw cuisine, dazzling fish dishes and even craft cocktails, alongside more familiar Italian fare.
Oliver recommends visiting the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore while you are staying in this magical city, an absolute marvel of gothic and renaissance architecture that was built in 1436. Its sheer size is impressive, as is the stunning Duomo (added in the 15th century) which is made up of natural green, red and white marble, with intricately carved details. Artwork within the cathedral includes Giorgio Vasari’s frescoes of the ‘Last Judgement’, as well as scenes from the Divine Comedy, breath taking floor mosaics, and a clock, designed in 1443 by Paolo Uccello that still works today. Entrance to the cathedral is free, and so there is often a long queue - but the line moves quickly, and it is well worth the wait!
If you want to escape the city for the day, Florence is the perfect base for exploring the region and taking a day trip to the countryside. Tuscany is famous for its rolling green hills and vineyards, and it is here you’ll be able to enjoy wine tasting, cooking classes and olive harvesting for a unique Tuscan experience. We recommend hiring a Vespa or bicycle and exploring the countryside and mediaeval hilltop towns, before finding a shady spot for a picnic and enjoying the gorgeous scenery.

Region
Florence, a charming city located in the heart of Tuscany, Italy, is a place where history, art, and culture come alive. Nestled along the banks of the Arno River, this enchanting destination has captivated travellers for centuries with its timeless beauty and rich heritage.
Tuscany
With its rolling fields, historical heritage and a cuisine that’s a delight for all the senses, it’s no wonder Tuscany is one of the most popular regions in Italy for holidaymakers. Yet even with its popularity, you can still kick back in one of our luxury villas in Tuscany and feel peace, tranquillity and the joy of seclusion.
This is one destination that really does have a little bit of everything for everyone, whether you’re travelling with family, friends or are just looking for a romantic getaway with that special someone.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThe historic centre of Florence is relatively small, making it easy to move around on foot - perfect for those who are visiting with children. There are lots of pedestrianised areas and lively piazzas, as well as kid-friendly museums and playgrounds to enjoy, and trips to the countryside is a popular pastime with families, where bike riding and picnics are the order of the day.
We recommend visiting Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia Gallery during your stay in the region; older children may recognise or have some knowledge of the famous statue, and even the younger ones will appreciate the sheer scale of this towering masterpiece. The gallery is much smaller than some of the museums in Florence, so it won’t be overwhelming or involve too much walking - it’s the perfect introduction to Italian art and culture for the little ones!
The Leonardo da Vinci Museum in the centre of Florence is an interactive experience that the kids will love. Here they can try out some of da Vinci’s machines and inventions as well as see some digital reproductions of some of his most famous paintings. The recommended age is 7 years and up, although younger children are welcome - they just might need some assistance with the interactive exhibits.
