Best Suited For: All AgesThere are so many interesting places to explore in the area. A highlight is cycling along the City Walls of Lucca, 58km away, a famous tree-lined fortification that surrounds the city. This is a family-favourite activity and the 4.9 km loop is safe enough for little ones. The bike path is wide, making it easy to cycle, and from 12 metres high, you’ll have the most breath-taking views as you explore on two wheels.
Other exciting trips include visiting the leaning tower of Pisa (62km) and riding up the funicular railway to the dramatic setting of Montecatini Terme with its fountains, spa and shops.
The choice of places to visit in Florence can be overwhelming. Start off by viewing the city from above, from Piazzale Michelangelo or from the top of the cathedral dome. Taking in the main artistic sites can be balanced with a trip to the magnificent Boboli gardens for a stroll or picnic. After a morning admiring artworks at the Uffizi gallery, the promise of a generous helping of creamy gelato in a cone or large bowl of fresh pasta at a local trattoria cannot fail to delight children of all ages.
Other highlights for kids in Florence include the Museo Galileo, a hands-on science museum with a lot of interactive exhibits and live demonstrations for kids of all ages! And just outside of Florence, you can find Parco Avventura Il Gigante, a climbing park set in a forest and features rope bridges, swings and zip lines.
