Perched between the Val d'Orcia and the Val di Chiana, amidst the gentle undulations of Tuscany, Casa Castano is a haven of tranquility, offering the perfect setting for a serene break and an opportunity to explore the unspoiled, natural beauty of the southern part of Tuscany. Here, you can immerse yourself in the countryside and the quaint villages that dot the landscape.

With a plethora of walking trails, bike paths, and horse riding opportunities in close proximity, Casa Castano is a gateway to outdoor adventure and a chance to bask in the Tuscan sunshine.
Just 2 km from the villa, San Casciano Dei Bagni is a charming town that beckons with its food shops, restaurants, and bars. It's the perfect place to savor an artisanal ice cream in the large square, while enjoying a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside.

Also in San Casciano Dei Bagni are the various spas for which the area is renowned. You can visit the Fonteverde spa, an award-winning spa complex with various thermal pools and unique treatments. If you love natural places, a bath in the waters that flow freely under the town in the original Roman pools or going to Bagni San Filippo will be an opportunity for a nice trip in nature.

This area of Tuscany is famous for its scenic beauty; many places have been filmed or photographed for advertising, and you will have fun finding them again. Suppose you love wine and are in the company of Montepulciano and Montalcino with their cellars of fine wines, such as Vino Nobile of Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. In that case, there will be places for excellent wine tours.

The villa's strategic position offers 360-degree itineraries: the Val d'Orcia with the beautiful Pienza and all the smaller UNESCO heritage villages, and the nearby Maremma with Pitigliano and Sorano are incredible towns that seem to be part of another time.

Cortona and Arezzo are nearby, and Siena is 80km away—you can't miss it.

The nearby Umbria offers Perugia, one hour from the villa, and Assisi shortly after.
Orvieto, a beautiful town and Lake Bolsena offer other opportunities for fantastic day trips.

Upon returning from your trip, the villa will welcome you with its sense of peace, and swimming in the pool surrounded by nature will be an unparalleled refreshment.

Owner Profile

  • How long have you owned the property?

I have been the owner of the property since 2012 when I started a major renovation and modernization of the entire villa.

  • What was it about the property that you first fell in love with?

I wanted to live in a place in contact with nature in this Tuscan territory where time expands, where every landscape seems painted, where traditions are still authentic and I wanted to share all this with guests from different places in the world, because I love hospitality.

  • Are there any interesting stories in its history?

Historically it was a poor farmhouse built to accommodate those who came to work in the woods, in the past years it has undergone various expansion interventions to become a villa dedicated to hospitality, keeping intact its typicality and its ancient charm although equipped with more modern comforts.

  • Have you ever had any famous guests staying?

Many are our famous guests from director to industrial or real estate agent, but for us all are special guests to whom we devote all our attention through our services and the villa offered.

  • For anyone coming to stay, is there anything you suggest that they really…

Must do? Must eat? Must see?

We ask you to live our villa as a Tuscan experience because this is, enjoy the unspoiled nature and silence that surrounds us, enjoy the good food that our Chef prepares in the villa for our guests by choosing and offering local excellences sipping red wine of local producers by the pool and discover the most authentic Tuscany that surrounds us with the most famous and photographed places in the world that are very close to us.

  • What insider tip would you pass on about the property or the area?

If you are looking for an authentic holiday in Tuscany to share with family and friends with a staff available for your requests, you are in the right place.

  • The best food!

    on 30/05/2024

This was the best food we have had in the area. Patrizia was a very kind and accommodating host. The rooms are filled with many special touches. Remote and very quiet spot but not too far from the town.

  • The best time!

    Created on 25/05/2024

My group of 12 stayed at Casa Castano in May 2024 and had the best time imaginable! Seriously! The villa is perfectly restored in a beautiful location and is impeccably and authentically furnished. The beds were the most comfortable ones we slept on on our three week adventure through Italy. On our first night, Chef Francesco led us through making ravioli, tortellini, sauces, tiramisu, etc. all-the-while serving us excellent wine and appetizers. We were so happy and full! Chef Francesco was so good (and fun!) we hired him to be our chef on four nights at another villa where we stayed nearer Florence. All of the food he made was spectacularly delicious. Besides the cooking class, he made us pizza (wood fired), lasagna, marinated beef, gnocchi, sauces, salads. Too many thing to remember!

Our bottom line is that you should add this Villa to your travel plans if you can...and schedule a cooking class while you're there! It will be one of your most cherished moments of all time! If you do, please tell Chef Francesco and Petrice hello from us!

  • We will definitely be back!

    on 06/01/2024

We spent New Year's Eve at Casa Castano with some friends and thanks to the wonderful welcome from Patrizia and her staff we truly felt at home. The Villa is immersed in a forest where peace and silence reign, the rooms are welcoming and tastefully furnished. The excellent cuisine (and friendliness) of chef Francesco completes everything. We will definitely be back!

  • An Italian fairytale

    Created on 18/07/2023

I don’t think words can accurately describe the beauty, peace and serenity of this property nor the kindness and warmth of the hosts. The owner was very accommodating and responsive to any questions we had (before and during our trip) and to anything we needed while at the Villa. The housekeeper was helping during our stay with cleaning and changing of the bedrooms. She was very sweet and did a great job. As for the Chef... WOW!! Simply amazing. The best food we had during our entire 9 days in Tuscany. We used his services for 3 dinners during our stay but in hindsight we would have done more. He is a fun loving person with a warm heart and incredible skills in the kitchen. The food was marvellous and very reasonably priced. As for the villa we had 11 adults (a mix of couples and singles) and there was more than enough space. For European standards the rooms are very large, as are the beds and they are so comfortable. The villa has many cosy outdoor spaces and naturally the pool is a welcome respite from the heat. Not many people mention the local town of San Casciano dei Bagni, but it is a hidden gem. A non-tourist town with spectacular views and a wonderful place to sit with a glass of wine or a cold beer and watch the world go by. The location was perfect for day trips to all of the famous Tuscan towns: Pienza, Siena, Montepulciano, etc . Our 9 days at Villa Vetrichina were like an Italian fairy tale that we will never forget. We hope to make it back some day.

A splendid villa, nestled in a peaceful grove, the perfect place to relax. Tasteful furnishings, beautiful rooms, cuisine (all quality products and homemade pasta) and excellent hospitality. Mrs. Patrizia and chef Francesco made our family celebration unforgettable. I also recommend the place to spend a weekend having a beautiful swimming pool, with the possibility of being heated.
