Overview
Nestled among the hills and vineyards of the beautiful Tuscan countryside, this renovated, three bedroomed stone villa welcomes up to eight guests to Chianti country.
There’s a modern feel to the finish here, but it’s very much a renovation that retains – and enhances – the building’s traditional charm. Contemporary windows and doors, shaped in the original style, are installed in thick, stone walls, helping keep the villa cool during warmer months. The vaulted, timber ceilings and stone floors are complemented by the bright and tasteful décor. The spacious lounge segues beautifully with the garden, courtesy of large patio doors to the outdoor lounge and dining terraces, flooding the room with natural light throughout the day.
A well-appointed kitchen sits adjacent to the indoor and outdoor lounges, making mealtimes a sociable experience. A blend of antique-style and more modern ornamentation adds to the homely atmosphere at Casa Caravaggio. Along with impressive, elegant wooden furniture – expertly made wardrobes, dressers and chests of drawers - there’s a superbly upholstered sofa and armchairs in the lounge, along with sumptuous beds in the three bedrooms. You’ll find the first of these on the lower ground floor, a spacious double room with an en-suite bathroom and double sofa bed. The first floor comprises another en-suite double room, along with a third, superbly appointed bathroom serving the villa’s third double bedroom.
Manicured lawns are bordered by traditional stone walls, with shaded patios that beckon you out into the glorious Tuscan sunshine. Relaxing in the outdoor lounge is a real joy, with a garden view that opens to the gentle slopes beyond – perfect for enjoying a barbecued dinner. The garden is as thoughtfully furnished as the interior, with plenty of spots where you can do as little as you like, while drinking in your picturesque surroundings – along with a glass or two of a local wine. There’s no better spot for this than just up the steps to your private swimming pool, where you’ll find a selection of comfortable sun loungers to ease into after a refreshing dip.
You’ll have private parking inside the villa’s gates, leading out to a quiet road that will be your starting point to explore the idyllic Tuscan landscape and all the delights it holds. Rolling hills, vineyards and forests typify this picturesque region, with countless possibilities for hiking, cycling and drives to stunning locations, including incredible wineries.
Lovers of art and architecture will be spoiled for choice too, with centuries of culture proudly showcased in nearby Florence, along with an array of hidden gems in the local villages – Gambassi Terme where you will find the nearest amenities such as restaurants and supermarket at under five minutes away.

Location
About the surrounding area of Casa CaravaggioSet among woodlands and vineyards, Gambassi Terme is just three kilometres away from Casa Caravaggio, with all essentials available for the duration of your stay. It’s a great little town for a relaxed stroll too, in a region rich in examples of Romanesque architecture. One of these, the church of San Giovanni Battista, is a little over five minutes away in Varna, housing a replica of Andrea del Sarto’s Madonna with Child and Saints.
The artistic hub of Florence is just over an hour away, where the Duomo (or the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower) towers elegantly over the city. Provided you can manage the nine-hundred-step round trip to the top of this fifteenth-century masterpiece and back down again, you’ll enjoy staggering views over the city– and a wealth of options for a well-earned lunch afterwards! If a picnic on the banks of the Arno River is more your thing (you can even try your hand at paddle boarding), the spectacular Mercado Centrale has been home to a phenomenal food market since the nineteenth century. You’ll find a sumptuous array of cheeses, meats, spices and more, along with a food court upstairs with something for everyone, ranging from fresh pasta, fried fish and truffles, to pizza and refreshing gelato. No day trip to Florence is complete without a visit to the Galleria dell’Accademia, where you can admire Michelangelo’s David, joining the thousands who make the pilgrimage for their obligatory selfies with this five-hundred-year-old masterpiece.
Wine lovers flock to Tuscany each year, and with good reason. The region’s limestone soils, along with a perfectly balanced climate, provide the perfect canvas for centuries of wine-making heritage. Aside from the obvious pleasure of enjoying a glass or two with dinner, there are numerous ways to explore a viticulture that delivers some of the world’s finest labels. Take an e-bike tour around vineyards, step into vast cellars housing the region’s finest offerings, or take a cooking class and learn the intricacies of pairing Tuscan food and wine. You can even book tours of rural wineries with transportation provided – so you can sample as many wines as you like!
A leisurely drive of around one hundred kilometres will bring you to the beautiful coastline at Viareggio, with an incredible ten kilometres of sandy beaches. The velveteen beaches extend to up to two hundred metres wide, so there’s plenty of room for sunbathing, even at busier times of the season. The sea is shallow, making it ideal for children, with options to hire sun loungers and beach umbrellas. With plenty of shopping options in the centre, along with seafood restaurants serving delicious produce, fresh from the port.
Famed for its leaning tower, Pisa is just over an hour from Casa Caravaggio. A photo opportunity alongside the tower isn’t missed by many, but a walk along the bank of the River Arno brings a wealth of other attractions, not least the beautiful Palazzo Blu, a fourteenth-century palace that’s now an art gallery.

We had a wonderful week here
The location of the property is absolutely quiet and nothing is missing in the house. The outdoor kitchen in particular is a highlight. Definitely recommended.
