Location
About the surrounding area of Apartment GianaFor lovers of history and art, Apartment Giana is ideally located just a short walk from the Church of the Salute, the Accademia Gallery, the Palazzo Cini Gallery, and the Punta Della Dogana Centre of Contemporary Art. you’ll find plenty of fine dining restaurants in the area, as well as supermarkets, cafes, and water bus stops.
The iconic St. Mark’s Square is just a five-minute gondola ride away and is well worth a visit during your stay. This more populated and cosmopolitan area of Venice is rich in its own exciting and interesting attractions and is one of the most famous piazzas in all of Italy - a place Napoleon once called the ‘drawing room of Europe’, this incredibly beautiful spot is an absolute must-see while you are in Venice, and it is here that you’ll find the famous St. Mark’s Basilica, the jewel of the square and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful churches you’ll ever see.
The basilica is full of stunning mosaics, relics of St. Mark himself, and perhaps most famous of all, the four bronze horses (that are actually made of copper!). Tours of the church interior are free of charge, but it is worth knowing that queues to enter this popular attraction can exceed 45 minutes at peak times, so Oliver recommends showing up early!
For an afternoon of people-watching, refreshments and relaxation, you couldn’t be in a better place, as there are several beautiful little cafes in the piazza, all serving excellent coffee and delicious pastries - often served with a side order of live music. Oliver recommends visiting Caffe Florian while you are here, which opened its doors in 1720 and is thought to be the oldest cafe in Europe. Enjoying an authentic Italian coffee in a 300-year-old cafe while overlooking a 1000-year-old church is certainly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
It’s hard to spend time in St. Mark’s Square without noticing the impressive St. Mark’s Clocktower, with its stunning blue face and gold zodiac symbols. To truly appreciate this 500-year-old masterpiece, we highly recommend booking a guided tour to enjoy the inside of this fascinating building.

Region
Venice, a captivating city situated in the northeastern part of Italy, is a place like no other. Often referred to as the "City of Canals," Venice is renowned for its unique and mesmerising beauty. Built on a network of one-hundred-and-eighteen small islands connected by a labyrinth of canals, this enchanting city offers an array of attractions and experiences that make it a must-visit destination for travellers from around the world.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesApartment Giana, with its good mix of double, twin and single rooms, spacious interior, and the addition of a garden space, is a good choice of accommodation for families with children. While caution is advised on the open-sided staircase, and it’s worth noting that not all the bedrooms are on the same floor, well-supervised children are sure to enjoy their stay.
Venice is a popular destination for families thanks to its pedestrianised streets, lack of cars, wide open spaces, and child-friendly cafes and restaurants, and there’s plenty here to see and do - the kids are sure to love a gondola ride!
It’s unsurprising that a city on water is going to pose some challenges to parents with young children, but Venice is very family-friendly and with a bit of forward-planning nothing is insurmountable. A great feature of Venice that appeals to parents is that it is car-free, with plenty of areas where the kids can roam freely and enjoy all the attractions that this unique city has to offer. If you are visiting with very young children, Oliver recommends bringing a baby carrier rather than having to struggle on and off of water buses or lugging prams and pushchairs up and down bridges and streets, as not all areas are accessible via ramp.
