Perched romantically on the hills beside the small village of Scopello, Villa Donato boasts enticing panoramic views of turquoise Mediterranean waters and rolling verdant hills. The relative height of the property to its undulating surroundings creates a deserving vantage point from which to admire the abundance of natural beauty which stretches out before it.
Indoors, a tastefully implemented colour scheme of white and blue runs throughout the house’s tidily furnished rooms. The living area is bright and elegant, leading onto a modern and well-equipped kitchen, even boasting a small wine cellar with Sicilian wine. The bedrooms are commodious, with a comfortable master room with a king-size bed and a room with two single beds. A further French size bed located in the attic is available at an extra cost to sleep 2 additional guests.
A quaint stone path leads through the rich Mediterranean garden, alive with blossom and fragrances of wild mimosa and rosemary, to the door of the property. Rustic wooden furnishings and terracotta tiles retain a more traditional Sicilian charm outside the villa. A spacious and covered sea view veranda offers a peaceful spot for drinks next to the pool, which looks fabulous lit up at night, and is equipped with an elegant sofa and chairs. A second veranda at the back of the villa hosts a BBQ and another space in which to dine.
Villa Donato is in the perfect setting to take in the beauty of Western Sicily, being only a short walk to the nearest beach, Cala Mazzo di Sciacca, and a very short drive to the Lo Zingaro nature reserve, famous for its landscapes and rare plants. The charming village of Scopello is just over 1km away, so it is perfect for a late-night stroll to visit some authentic restaurants and bars. Further afield, you can also find the Castellammare del Golfo (12km), a delightful fishing town, and San Vito Lo Capo (55km) with gorgeous white sandy beaches.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa DonatoVilla Donato is in a spectacular position to enjoy the abundance of beauty of western Sicily. The Cala Mazzo di Sciacca beach is only a short walk away and nearby restaurants and bars are just over 1km away, if you fancy lounging by the beach instead of the pool and dining alfresco on a different terrace!
West of Palermo, just after Castellammare del Golfo, the coastline becomes rugged and spectacular. Part of this coastline is Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve, which stretches for 7km between the lovely village of Scopello in the east to near San Vito Lo Capo in the west. Created in 1981, this park and its surrounding areas are one of the most beautiful parts of western Sicily.
Lo Zingaro has been shaped by nature to dramatic effect. Cliffs drop precipitously into the azure sea and the series of pebbly beaches hidden amongst a myriad of coves are as lovely as you can find in the Mediterranean. The park attracts both walkers and bathers alike and in the summer, when many beaches are overcrowded, it is a good idea to head for Lo Zingaro, walk for half an hour and find relative isolation on a virtually deserted beach.
At the edge of the Zingaro Nature reserve lies the ancient Scopello (from the Greek word "Skopelos" that means "cliff”), a small, pleasant village that was built around a 16th-century “baglio”, on the site of a former Moorish hamlet. As you will discover, this nice courtyard is now the heart of the village. Here, ceramics and souvenirs shops, as well as boutiques, cafés and restaurants lie under the shadow of a large eucalyptus. On the road to Trapani one can spot the idyllically situated Greek temple of Segesta, one of the Mediterranean’s finest archaeological sites.
Castellammare del Golfo is an attractive seaside town between Palermo and Trapani. The historic fishing port has a picturesque location, below steep mountain slopes; with a handsome curved harbour at the foot of a small headland topped with a castle. There are still small working fishing boats, and you may see fishermen mending their nets on board, or selling the day's catch. Castellammare has a pretty little central park, opposite the elegant town hall on Corso Mattarella. The park has a small children's play area, shady trees, and benches views over the harbour.

Region
Nestled on the westernmost tip of the stunning island of Sicily, Western Sicily is a region that offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, rich history, and mouthwatering cuisine. It is a place where the ancient meets the modern, creating a unique atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesOne of the main attractions of this area is the incredible beaches, with the nearest being only a short walk away. These beautiful beaches are a great spot for parents to relax whilst the kids enjoy the variety of watersports available such as windsurfing and kite surfing. Around the Zingaro Nature Reserve and San Vito Lo Capo, diving and snorkelling are also very popular thanks to the crystal-clear seas.
If you fancy travelling further afield for a day trip, head to Trapani (38km), an important fishing port and a great spot for kids to take in some fascinating Sicilian history. In fact, due to the curving shape of the busy harbour, which resembles the shape of a sickle, there are many myths surrounding the founding of this city that little mythology lovers will delight in discovering! You can also take the cable car up to Erice, a charming hilltop town with a medieval castle.
For a change of scenery, travel to Segesta Parco Archeologico (30km) – an archaeological museum with a well-preserved ancient Greek temple and amphitheatre as well as many other ruins. Be sure to stay for sunset to witness the sky change in the colours of hydrangea as the sun slips behind the horizon.
For those seeking tree-top adventures, the Parco Avventura Bosco d'Alcamo is just 30km away with many activities for children aged 6+.

Beautifully situated villa
Beautifully situated villa with easy walking access to sea and restaurants locally. Very helpful and attentive staff. Great for a chilled out and relaxing stay!
-
Lovely villa
We had a great 10 days in this lovely villa. Best of all worlds with pool, beach, and choice of bars and restaurants all in walking distance. Small and pretty Scopello village with surprising number of restaurants, we tried 4 and the food was always good. We also had dinner on our terrace with beautiful views of the sea and mountains of Zingaro. Good location for visiting this corner of Sicily and less than an hour drive from Palermo.

Loved it and will come back for sure!
We had a wonderful time in Scopello!
Gianluca’s apartment is spacious, clean and nicely decorated. You’ll really find everything you need, from an open kitchen and cozy living room to the absolutely gorgeous outdoor area, complete with a pool, BBQ, many different places to eat and relax and (of course!) the most amazing view!
What makes your time even better: Gianluca is a great host who cares a lot about his guests and replies right away in case you have any questions. Thanks again! :)
Scopello itself is a super cute little mountain town with cobble stones, different restaurant options, a pasticceria with very good coffee and pastries – and it’s just a 20 minutes walk or a short drive by car. The beautiful coastline national park Lo Zingaro is also just around the corner.
Loved it and will come back for sure! -
A fantastic house
Villa Donato is a fantastic house with all we needed, a peaceful location and sublime view, thanks for having us.
-
Beautiful views, great place
Beautiful views, great place with everything you could possibly need. Gianluca replied immediately to queries (not that we had many!)

A great stay
We had a great stay at Villa Donato, which kicked off from the moment we saw the beautiful sea and mountain view from the terrace in the lovely gardens. It's just a short 5-minute walk down to the local beach at Cala Mazzo di Sciacca, and a very short drive to the wonderful little village of Scopello - with its excellent restaurants such as the Nettuno - and to the local well-furnished supermarket, pharmacy and pizzeria. We used the villa as a base to visit sites and do things as far afield as Erice, Segesta, Selinunte, Trapani and Castellamare and it all went really well.
Gianluca kindly helped locate an item we left behind and sent it back to us in London, which was an extra level of service that we really appreciated.
Highly recommended for a peaceful base from which to explore the north west of this amazing island. Sicily was great. -

A lovely villa in a beautiful location
This is a lovely villa in a beautiful location! The view of the sea below is stunning and having breakfast outside was a great way to start the day! The garden is also beautiful. The communication before we arrived was excellent and the villa was very clean. The welcome pack was greatly appreciated, especially the local wine! We enjoyed a barbecue of local fish we had bought at the nearby-market! The villa is in a good location for a local beach and also trips to nearby areas such as Castellammare del Golfo (from where we had a fantastic boat trip) and it only took 45 minutes to drive to Palermo. A great first visit to Sicily! We will be back!
