Location
About the surrounding area of Villa MeilakThe Villa Meilak is nestled in the countryside of the quiet village of Triq Il-Barbieri, near to Zurrieq, on the south of the island, just six kilometres from Malta’s International Airport, eight kilometres from the nearest sandy beach, and within easy distance of three UNESCO World Heritage sites. Steeped in history, Zurrieq is one of Malta’s oldest towns, with records dating back to the fifteenth century and archaeological sites up to three thousand years old. The name Zurrieq means blue in Maltese, and you couldn’t be much closer to the famous Blue Grotto, a collection of sea caverns on the coast, take a trip and explore the caves, by boat is best, but if rock climbing is your thing, you can do that too. Go back in time to the Bronze Age, the Punic era, and Roman rule as you explore tombs, catacombs and cart ruts of Xarolla, Tal-Bakkari and Tal-Hlantun, not to mention the megalithic ruins of the Hagar Qim Temples. Wrestle with the famous five iconic windmills of the area, of which Tax-Xarolla, built-in 1724, it is the only one left that is working. Climb one of the thirteen towers scattered along the coast, don’t miss the WardijaTower, built-in 1659 to protect the island from invaders. Take to the sea in a boat trip to the beach at Pretty Bay, or if you are feeling more adventurous, cross the Mediterranean Sea to the island of Filfla. Make sure you make a visit to the traditional Marsaxlokk fishing village just along the coast.
The capital city of Valetta is just a thirteen kilometre, an easy twenty five minute drive across the island. Valetta is a medieval walled city with a mdina that dates back to the crusading Knights of St John in the 1500’s, and you can still see their influence today, most notably in the beautiful Baroque Roman Catholic St John’s cathedral. Take a walking tour of the city to discover the treasures of Valetta’s many ornate churches, many of them dating back to as early as the Renaissance. Admire the views of the magnificent harbour from the top of the manicured Upper Barrakka Gardens, a park full of local flowers in a landscaped setting, and a daily cannon that reminds everyone when it’s midday and is also fired for religious festivals, anniversaries and visiting dignitaries. Valetta is famous for its fabulous food; take a stroll down ancient streets and discover local restaurants serving traditional Maltese fayre, or live like a local and drink kinnie or a glass of the local wine whilst you people watch from pavement cafes. No trip to Malta is complete without a visit to the beautiful island of Gozo, take boat trip over the water from the north of the island, and explore this rural idyll.

Region
There are so many reasons visitors fall head over heels in love with Malta. Not only is the sunny Mediterranean island home to stunning beaches and beautiful landscapes, it’s also a paradise for guests seeking authentic cultural experiences and rich heritage.
Starting with Malta’s capital, Valletta, a handsome city dating back to the 16th century that has earned its title as a UNESCO World Heritage site with its ornate architecture and baroque Saint John's Co-Cathedral. During the day, sip coffee on the café terraces of Pjazza Regina then watch the city come to life in the evening as locals gather across the historic centre to dine al-fresco and party into the night – Strada Stretta is the place to be!
With a history spanning over 7000 years, Malta is a dream for historians of every age. Come across old forts and towers as you explore the coastline as well as fascinating museums in villages and towns. Head back further in time as you admire the island’s incredible archaeological sites including the megalithic temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra.
Then there’s the blue-flag beaches and swimming opportunities – with an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, there’s plenty of time to enjoy the island’s varied coastline. From Ghadira Bay in the north with its sandy shores and shallow water to the rocky coastline around Il-Kalanka for jumping and snorkelling, there are so many idyllic spots to choose from. Don’t forget that Malta is also home to some of the most beautiful and clear European waters for diving.
Culturally, there is so much to experience such as the vibrant Carnival just before Lent as well as music festivals and village events across the summer. During the second weekend of October, one of Malta’s oldest cities is magically lit up by candlelight during Birgufest whilst there are plenty of enchanting celebrations around Christmas time.
There’s no shortage of fine food to be savoured across Malta – dining out is a wonderful way to experience true Maltese hospitality. Cuisine is inspired by the Mediterranean, Sicily and even North Africa yet it has its distinct identity too, usually accompanied by traditionally baked Maltese bread, a staple of the diet. Come across delicious pastizzi and ftira biz-zejt alongside cheeses, olive oil, sea-salt and honey infused with thyme, all delectable delights that have been produced across the island for centuries.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesThere’s lots for your young ones to see and do across Malta, and as it’s a relatively small island, its easy to access all of the activities. Let’s start at home with the villa that has a PlayStation3 and BlueRay DVD player, a large pool in which to swim and splash, and a dedicated children’s play area in the gardens. The nearest beaches are within walking distance, or take a five minute journey by car to the Blue Grotto, where you can explore the caves, swim and snorkel and for the more adventurous try a bit of rock climbing.
Further afield there’s fun to be had at the Playmobil Fun Park Malta, Birzebbuga, which caters for younger children from babies to toddlers, and four years +, learn through play indoors and outdoors in the pirate themed play area, climb tree houses, cross the hanging bridge and slip down slides. Get on your horse and take a ride on the carousel at Dolfer Hall. For older children let them loose in Bov Adventure Park, where there are climbing frames, water fountains, swings and the perfect place for a picnic. For you little boffins you might want to go to Esplova in the village of Bighi, near Valletta, where they can spend the day interacting with science and technology. Children love Duck Village on Manoel Island, full of miniature houses, and lots of pet animals. See some sea life at the Malta National Aquarium, where forty one tanks are home to over a hundred species of underwater life, not to mention the reptiles, amphibians and insects. See some sea life above ground at the Mediterraneo Marine Park, with performances from dolphins, sea lions and parrots, both educational and entertaining, and if you are really lucky you may also get to swim with the dolphins. Time to get in the water with a visit to Splash & Fun Water Park, with its very own wave pool, lazy river, black hole, and a whole host of other family fun activities.
Malta is famous for its many film sets, and Popeye Village is just one of them, now a family entertainment park, with a play and swim area, boat rides, and animation shows. Take to the water all aboard one of the many family days at sea boat trips, boats leave from the local Weid Iz Zurriez bay, or venture north and go to the beautiful island of Gozo. No trip to Malta would be complete without a day in Valetta, just seven kilometres from the villa, absorb the local history with a walk around the walled city to see the Mdina, take a stroll through the Barrakka Gardens at noon to hear the cannon fire, and enjoy a meal at one of Malta’s many family-friendly restaurants.

Stunning
Janice's villa is absolutely stunning. Upon our arrival on the first day, we were a bit unsure if it would live up to its description, but to our delight, it was just as beautiful as the photos presented. The pool is saltwater which we initially had reservations about however we ended up appreciating as it was gentler on our skin and hair than chlorine. The kitchen and living space were spacious, clean, and devoid of any clutter. The bedrooms were also tidy and well-maintained, with exceptionally comfortable beds. The villa's surroundings were breathtaking, with meticulously maintained grounds that added to its allure. We were pleasantly surprised to receive two visits from the pool maintenance and one from a cleaner midway through our stay, ensuring that everything remained in good condition. Without a doubt, I would recommend this villa to anyone seeking a tranquil retreat, It's the perfect place to unwind and immerse yourself however you do need a hire car to explore the island.

Superb
Spacious and comfortable villa, superb, well-designed exteriors, beautiful view especially at sunset. Responsiveness of the host to each request from us. Villa located in a quiet area but 20 minutes from Valletta.

Lovely villa located in a quiet area of Malta
It's very well appointed and maintained inside and out.
The large pool is the highlight of the villa. It was the perfect temperature in July-August so great to cool off in, in the hot weather!
There is ample sun loungers and outdoor seating with parasols.
It is surrounded by well kept gardens and as it's on a hill, it enjoys a gentle breeze (very welcome in August) and an amazing view that extends across the entire south of the island, from Mdina to Sliema.
(The view would be even better if the bushes were trimmed just a tiny bit!)
The three bedrooms each have their own bathroom which is very ideal when travelling as a large group, all of which were very clean.
The large kitchen is perfectly equipped with everything you may need, including a dishwasher and washing machine.
The villa is in a very quiet area of Malta so if you're after a peaceful holiday then it's ideal. Zurrieq area is not at all touristy, although the Blue Grotto is only 5 minutes drive away where several restaurants can be found and Valletta can be reached by car in around 25 minutes. -
Lovely pool and view
A beautiful villa, quiet location, lovely pool and view. A great place to unwind, relax by the pool and visit around Malta.

Wonderful location, and very private.
Nobody can see us when we are in the garden and swimming pool as well. Middle of nowhere but we got very good instruction and had no issue to find.
The pool is very wide and very warm, it is so clean no leaves nor bugs, as it is salt water.
Every night we enjoyed fireworks while we are swimming after site seeing we had fun and quiet time in the garden and pool.
The garden is very well maintained and kids has kids play toy (swing and climbing frame) and kids picnic table & chair.
Very good size of 3 double bed rooms, all en-suite. One of them has bath with Jacuzzi and it is wonderful. All room has air conditioning working order we could sleep so well.
We cooked in there with out any issue and good size of dining table inside and outside. There is BBQ area outside .
The town closest is Zurrieq, and it is very quaint, and people are nice and cheerful. Few nice restaurant there.
Strongly recommend to all sort of people especially for family. -
Stunning view!
Beautiful villa and gardens, totally immaculate and very good air con. You’ll need a car as it’s a bit far out, but still handy for Valletta and other key places. Stunning view!

Fantastic villa
The Villa is spacious and presented to the highest standard. Wonderful decor and well equipped kitchen. Air conditioning system kept the villa cool when it was really hot outside, which was nice. We really liked the large swimming pool which was really good for games as well as exercise. Plenty of outside space in pleasant surroundings, and a BBQ which we made good use of. The maintenance team kept everything in good order and responded quickly when we had an issue with one of the keys. The villa is in a quiet location, and outside the local village so you definitely need a car. There isn't that much in easy walking distance. We expect to come back!

Magnificent views from the pool
Peaceful location with amazing views. The villa itself is very well kept, rooms are clean and all appliances are well maintained.
The highlight of this experience is definitely its pool area, which boasts magnificent views of the surrounding nature and other localities in the vicinity, on a clear night you can even see up to Mdina and Rabat.
