Overview
Situated in the heart of Tankah Bay, this wonderful villa enjoys an exclusive position with a lovely terrace and pool that spills out onto the sand giving direct access to the beach and offering the perfect place to relax in the sun and soak up the tranquil, natural setting.
Part of a new development, Casa Cuerda has a contemporary aesthetic, with a well-designed interior arranged over several floors. Bright and spacious, the rooms have been elegantly decorated with timber furnishings and natural tones that offer a sense of warmth and bohemia. An open-plan living room sits on the ground floor, with a comfortable seating area to one side, whilst to the other end, the modern kitchen is well-equipped with quality appliances and a smart island counter where you can perch with a morning coffee or enjoy a tasty breakfast cooked by one of the villa's chefs. Floor-to-ceiling openings span the front of the room, drawing in plenty of natural light whilst giving access to the terrace beyond, and you can leave the doors open to enjoy a gentle sea breeze.
Stepping outside, a palm-thatched pergola extends away from the villa, creating a wonderful outdoor dining area, and the barbecue and grill are perfect for entertaining guests. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the shade or make the most of the warm nights and sit around for relaxing dinners whilst watching the sunset over the horizon. There is a further dining area to the villa's rear, whilst a circular bench wraps around a fantastic fire pit where you can share a bottle of wine and spend memorable evenings.
A lovely salt pool sits at the centre of the terrace, perfect for cooling off with a refreshing dip or taking a mere few steps across the sand and enjoying a swim in the clear blue sea. With swaying palms to either side and a series of stylish daybeds inviting you to recline beneath the blue skies, this is paradise. An additional decking extends out from the pool terrace, where comfortable bean bags are perfect for lazing with a book or relaxing in the shade and drifting off for an afternoon to the sound of the waves. For those looking for a bit more activity, there is a paddle court to the rear of the villa, perfect for working up a sweat and enjoying a fun match, whilst a couple of sea kayaks invite you to paddle out to explore the nearby coastline.
There are five suites to choose from, each beautifully presented with large double beds and elegant furnishings. All of the rooms in the main house have views out to the sea, with floor-to-ceiling openings which you can leave open overnight and wake up to the gentle sound of the waves lapping on the shore. The fifth room can be found in a bungalow separate from the villa but on the property grounds, perfect for offering independence to additional guests.

Location
About the surrounding area of Casa CuerdaEnjoying an exclusive beachfront position in the envied area of Tanka Bay, Casa Cuerda enjoys a secluded setting whilst being perfectly placed to enjoy the region's idyllic beaches. With the sea on the doorstep, it is hard to find a reason to leave the villa, but for those wishing to explore, there is plenty to see and do nearby.
Unique to low-altitude regions, there are around 10,000 cenotes dotted around the Yucatan Peninsular, one of which can be found just a few minutes walk from the villa. Formed by a collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater, the geological forms were once used as water supplies by the ancient Maya, and it is possible to take a tour to visit some of the more dramatic formations. Surrounded by lush jungle and vine-covered palms, the nearby Casa Cenote is a stunning pool of blue water where you can swim and soak up the magical setting.
The surrounding mangroves are also very special, with a rich biodiversity that depends on the environment of fresh and saltwater. Several companies offer kayak tours or opt for a more leisurely boat adventure to discover the tropical scenery and observe wild animals in their natural habitat.
There is plenty of opportunity to make the most of the glorious beaches, with stretches of pristine white sand extending for miles along the coast. Enjoy a day cruise on a catamaran or take a glass-bottomed boat tour to see the wonderful array of colourful fish and crustaceans below the surface. The area is also popular with scuba divers, and you can be guided through one of the deeper cenotes and underground caverns or head out to the incredible Mesoamerican Barrier Reef to see the stunning natural habitat. Stretching for almost 1000 km, the impressive reef formation boasts numerous coral species and seagrass beds, as well as being home to the largest population of manatees.
Alternatively, for more land-based culture, hop in the car and drive along the coast to Tulum, where you can discover the ancient ruins. Constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries, Tulum was the largest city inhabited by the Mayan people and was once an important site for sea trade, with tribes coming from all over the continent. Visit early to explore the impressive archaeological site and admire the enormous stone walls, passing by the imposing El Castillo and seeing the elaborately decorated Templo de las Pinturas, which was a former observatory used to track the movements of the sun. The ruins extend to the beach, and you can bring your bathers to enjoy a swim in the exquisitely blue waters.
Tulum itself is worth visiting; although well-developed with tourism, the town is a collection of vibrant streets lined with colourful boutiques and quirky cafes. Make the most of Mexico's fantastic culinary delights, enjoying plates of fresh fish and seafood or working your way through the extensive taco menus. Originally just a street stall, Taqueria Honorio is a popular spot for tortillas with cochinita (pulled pork in annatto marinade), whilst located on Tulum's main road Burrito Amor serves up classic combinations wrapped in banana leaf. With a great garden and cocktail list, Gitano is always the life of the party, whilst Hartwood is a great spot to enjoy a leisurely dinner. Only accepting walk-ins, the simple restaurant located on beach road offers a daily chalkboard menu serving up delicious dishes with fresh and local ingredients cooked in their wood-burning oven.
