Overview
Minimalistic and ultra contemporary Casa Relajarse boasts eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms and can sleep up to eighteen people. This upscale “modern brutalist” property also has vast communal areas and a stunning courtyard with a 18 metre swimming pool. Overall area of the villa and the grounds totals at an impressive 12k sq ft. It is extremely private, offering you respite from the outside world in the most beautiful surroundings, but you are still perfectly located to explore the unique and stunning Tulum. It has so much to offer for everyone, Mayan ruins, fine dining as well as hip eateries, snorkelling in a reef, scuba diving or cenotes - the options are endless!
Bare essentials create simple and uncluttered spaces which make this roomy villa even bigger! Monochromatic palette of earthy naturals highlights basic materials used here - stone, wood, metal and linen - which let the greenery be the main player and an accent colour. You will feel like you are in your own botanical garden.
The space in the courtyard around the pool is perfect for lazy lounging and sipping cocktails. There are numerous bean bags and relaxing surfaces provided, for your ultimate comfort. Afterwards, you can easily transfer to the fire pit area for a cosy evening with your group. A magnificent outdoor kitchen and dining area look out to the courtyard - perfect location for meals bigger and smaller, as well as even fetching a quick refreshment. Seating/living area is located just above the kitchen which gives you a wonderful view of the courtyard and the abundance of plants and trees from above. Almost like zip lining above a jungle!
All of the eight bedrooms are tastefully minimalistic and independent, all have fabulous en suite bathrooms, air conditioning and ceiling fans. They all contain a king size bed, while the eighth bedroom also has two single beds, as well as the king - perfect for a family or close friends. There is plenty of storage and space in all of them and all the toiletries provided are organic. Everywhere in the house is connected to optical fibre high speed internet for some news, emails and favourite shows catch ups. Ground-level bedrooms have an additional benefit of their own private plunge pools and patios, but staying upstairs gives you access to the wonderful terrace and you are much closer to the greenery and the stars!

Location
About the surrounding area of Casa RelajarseCasa Relajarse is located a 15 min bike ride away (or 10 min by car) from the most beautiful beaches in the world and it is worth exploring all of them, time allowing. North beaches (Playa Ruinas, Playa Paraiso, & Las Palmas) have been shielded from too much development, and the beachfront is wider, meaning there is a lot more open sand for laying out a towel and chilling away from the beach club crowds. Bars are a tad hipper (and cheaper) here too. They’re easily accessible and offer some great views of Mayan ruins!
Tulum's south beach is home to a vast array of luxury Riviera Maya hotels and beach clubs. It’s hard to access the beach unless you go through one of the hotels in Tulum, as the resorts try to preserve some exclusivity for their guests. With gorgeous white sand here, it is worth giving it a shot and renting a cabana for the day, benefit from the beach club bar and perhaps try some kitesurfing! An absolute must do from anywhere in Yucatan or Quintana Roo are the 13th century Tulum Mayan ruins. They’re not the biggest ruin site in Mexico, but their dramatic location on a cliff overlooking the beach makes Tulum ruins an unreal site to behold. Best to visit early in the day for the best chance to snap some fantastic images and memories (bonus, enormous iguanas roam freely around!).
Just south of Tulum lies the incredibly vast Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a protected area home to thousands of species of flora and fauna (dolphins, turtles, fish and birds aplenty), as well as some of the most pristine azure water in Mexico. Fantastic for a day trip! The most refreshing thing to do in Tulum is to dive into a cenote, a set of jungle swimming holes formed by underground springs cutting into the limestone bedrock. One of the most popular is Cenote Dos Ojos, which is located just 20 minutes north of town (you can get there by collectivo or via a taxi). You may be an avid gorgeous beach fan, but once you try a dip in a cool fresh cenote, you’ll understand why it is worth coming here! There are some fantastic eateries and places to drink in Tulum, from food walking tours which offer some spots off the beaten track, to Mexican cooking lessons with Mezcal tasting at private premises! Some finer dining can be experienced at Taboo or Norita.

Region
Hugging the Caribbean coastline of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, Tulum enjoys incredible white sandy beaches, ancient Mayan ruins and a bustling cultural scene. This coastal town, once a quiet fishing village, has evolved into a sought-after destination, offering a unique blend of history, natural beauty and considerable contemporary charm. Tulum has embraced sustainable tourism and many resorts showcase eco-friendly architecture that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings. From boutique hotels to luxurious beachfront properties, these establishments often prioritize eco-conscious practices, making them a perfect choice for travellers seeking a harmonious blend of comfort and environmental responsibility. Tulum has become a global hub for wellness seekers, with numerous yoga retreats and wellness centres. Visitors can participate in beachfront yoga sessions, holistic spa treatments and meditation workshops, immersing themselves in a rejuvenating and mindful experience.
One of the most iconic attractions in Tulum is the ancient Mayan archaeological site, perched majestically on cliffs overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. The well-preserved ruins include the Castillo, a towering pyramid, and the Temple of the Frescoes, adorned with intricate carvings. Visitors can explore the remnants of this once-thriving city and marvel at the ingenuity of the Mayan civilization.
Stretching along the coast, Tulum's beaches are renowned for their powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters. Playa Paraíso is a favourite among sun-seekers, offering a serene setting for relaxation and water activities. Snorkeling and diving enthusiasts can explore the vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life just off the shore. A unique architectural feature of Tulum's beachfront are the charming cabanas. These rustic yet stylish thatched-roof huts provide a cozy and intimate setting, allowing guests to experience the beauty of the Caribbean Sea right at their doorstep.
The Yucatán Peninsula is dotted with cenotes, natural sinkholes formed by collapsed cave systems. In the Tulum region, cenotes such as Gran Cenote and Dos Ojos beckon adventurers with their enchanting underground landscapes. These freshwater pools provide a refreshing escape from the heat and an opportunity for snorkeling and cave exploration. For nature lovers, a visit to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is a must. This UNESCO World Heritage Site encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including mangroves, wetlands and coral reefs. Guided tours offer glimpses of the region's rich biodiversity, with opportunities to spot dolphins, manatees and numerous bird species. Exploring Tulum by bicycle is a popular and eco-friendly way to take in the sights. The town and its surroundings offer bike-friendly paths, allowing cyclists to traverse the area at a leisurely pace, from the archaeological site to the vibrant town centre. Families with a love for wildlife can visit the Tulum Monkey Sanctuary, where rescued monkeys and other animals are cared for. Educational tours allow children and adults alike to learn about the importance of conservation and animal welfare.
A short drive from Tulum, Akumal is known for its serene beaches and the opportunity to swim with sea turtles in their natural habitat. The laid-back atmosphere and vibrant coral reefs make it a delightful day trip destination. Inland from Tulum lies Valladolid, a colonial town steeped in history. Its characterful streets, historic churches and vibrant markets provide a glimpse into Mexico's colonial past. The nearby Cenote Zaci offers a refreshing break for those exploring the town.
Tulum beckons with open arms, inviting you to explore its rich tapestry of culture and landscapes. It will send you home with marvellous holiday memories.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWhile this villa is easily adaptable, it is probably better equipped for older children. Tulum as a destination is fantastic for families with endless beaches and endless water based entertainment but also - because bikes are such a popular mode of transport and which little ones don’t like whizzing on a bike! Most beautiful beaches in the world await but… since northern beaches might get a little busy and hectic, it might be worth it to head to the south part with children, especially Ziggy’s Beach Club and La Zebra are two great options for a family-friendly beach club with plenty of playground area and other children attractions. Huge colourful letters spelling out the name of towns, cities and tourist attractions are a common sight across the Yucatan. Originally a part of a tourism promotional campaign, they make for great family photo opportunities. Keep an eye out for one and grab a pic! The ‘Follow that Dream’ street sign, on Tulum’s South Beach Road, is another great photo op - all of those are a fun way to make into a hunt and encourage little ones to participate.
Cenote Ak Tun Ha (also know was 'Carwash') is an open-air cenote located just beside a car park making it a great option for visiting with kids. There’s a diving platform, fish and turtles swimming in its clear waters and a cave section which divers can explore. It was once used by taxi drivers to wash their cars! Just a 45-minute drive from Tulum, the jungle ruins of Coba are fantastic to visit with kids. Coba is most famous for its Nohoch Mul - ‘Great Mound’ pyramid, which visitors are still allowed to climb: the 130-foot climb and descent is a fun adventure and the beautiful jungle views are breathtaking. Most visitors rent a bike to cycle to Nochol Mul or take the ride in a bicycle taxi. Younger kids will love the novelty of sitting upfront and whizzing through the jungle paths on a bicycle taxi! Kids who love animals will love Tulum Monkey Sanctuary. A wild variety of primates can be seen here as well as goats, deer, macaws, burros, horses and other wildlife. Habitats here are clean and large, the animals are all well cared for and tours are very small to keep it quiet and stress-free for the animals.
