Overview
Welcome to Villa Sofije, a beautifully whimsical property ideal for eight guests but able to house ten. With four bedrooms, three bedrooms and free private parking, we’d like to tell you more about this spellbinding property in Budva, Montenegro.
Planted amongst truly picturesque surroundings, you can enjoy the vast beauty of the gardens, outdoor pool, and ocean views. With a shared lounge, there are ample opportunities to socialise. Your precise location is Sveti Stefan, close to Crvena Glavica Beach and Drobni Pijesak Beach, which is only a little further.
A self-catered villa, you can indulge your independence with a private pool, lush gardens, barbeque and grilling facilities and free Wi-Fi throughout, all whilst living in a romantic and serene setting.
Thinking about the little things? Bed linen, towels, and flat-screen television with satellite channels are all available, as is a lovely dining area and fully equipped kitchen where you can cook up a storm. You can also enjoy the patio and enjoy oversight of the pool.
A four-star accommodation, there’s a little more than meets the eye to this property. You can make use of the revitalising hot tub, and there’s a playground for young children to keep them occupied whilst you read a book or soak in the tub nearby. You can also use the car rental service provided by Luxury Villa Crystal Blue should you wish to explore Montenegro, which we’d wholly recommend.
Simple, structured elegance is a great way to describe the property, which gives a slightly regal appearance. The entrance is magical, with a large, crooked, slightly awe-inspiring tree guarding the property. With muted colours, it’s designed to blend, chameleon-like, into the gorgeous backdrop. Sun loungers bound your pool and hot tub with blissful views of that deep blue sea beyond and the hum of green nature. Outdoors is a beautiful way to welcome in the sunrise and sunset whilst enjoying breakfast, meditation, or some quiet time with a coffee outdoors at the table. Even when inside, the outdoors has a way of finding you. Airy and light, the sun and the views will astonish you at every turn.
The bedrooms look gold-gilded and will undoubtedly make you feel aristocratic. No need to close the curtains, but if you prefer to, parting them in the morning will flaunt your gorgeous terrace and beckoning blue of the sea and the sky.
Glamorous, gorgeous, but a home no doubt, we know you’ll love your stay at Sofijie whether with family or friends.
What you should know…
- Safety has been thoroughly considered, but please don’t leave children unsupervised.
- Many locals don’t speak English, although they’ll certainly try to be accommodating. A phrase book can help smooth things over if needed.
- Make sure you have cash on you, as not everywhere accepts card. We think this is a quaint little throwback to a simpler way of life.

Location
About the surrounding area of Villa SofijeMontenegro is a little country with a lot to say. It’s a beguiling area with a contrasting and unusual landscape. Yes, you’ll find pristine beaches and brilliant bold sea, cosy coves and Greek tavernas, but you’ll also be able to take in the hearty mountainous regions and jagged wilderness that slightly defies modernity. A friendly culture, the locals will make you feel right at home with their kindness and hospitality. This is a culture of gentleness, of slow speed, of drinking up and savouring life. Embrace the gift that is Montenegro.
Your little hideaway is on Sveti Stefan, which is a small islet and resort, not far from Budva. It is very much like exploring an idyllic childhood paradise. A fantastical place, it has to be seen to be believed. You’re connected to the mainland by a slim string of golden beach and there is much to do nearby, including a visit to Milocer Park.
You can take a tour to explore some of Montenegrin’s cultural gems, including Cetinje and Njegusi as well as the picture-perfect Bay of Kotor.
The coast is a great place to spend time, but if you move in-land, you’ll also find there’s much to explore. Despite its small size, Montenegro is a geographically diverse land, and you can pick and choose what you’d like to see of it. It’s history of military invasion and religion mean that it houses a large number of monasteries which are well worth a visit. The famous Skadar Lake is a wonderful sight.
Montenegro is gaining in popularity, but there are still many chances to find quiet and peace. Food is a famous feature and there are a huge number of restaurants to enjoy, including Restora Rivijera, Jadran, Zeleni Gaj, Hajde for any vegetarians and Resto Bar Taraca for vegan options.
Further afield, you may wish to explore Budva with its many beaches, old town, and Roman-era ruins. Sveti Nikola island is a gorgeous sight, and the Budva Citadel is a great trip. There are lots of picturesque things to see, including the Budva dancing girl.
With a car to hand, you can drive to the mountainous region of Durmitor, visit the Ostrog Monastery, our lady of the rocks, a charming artificial island with a church. There are so many beautiful things to see and do here, all you need to do is decide what you want to do and go for it.

About the Region & Getting There
About Budva
Budva has been celebrated for its remarkable Riviera for decades! Not only are the beaches pristine and spoilt with turquoise waters, holiday-goers are continually reminded of this destination’s antiquated past wherever they look. With mesmerising streets in the Old Town and Monasteries rising over the symbolic Adriatic rooftop-slates, tourists unite in this glorious city for treasured holidays.
First stop, the Beaches! Budva’s coastline stretches for over 20km, so you will have to meander out of the city’s medieval walls to enjoy your choice of seventeen beaches. By far the most popular of these beaches is Jaz – here you will find lots of water-based activities that extend over the 4km shore. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, a day trip to the charming island of Sveti Nikola is urged. Not only will you experience stunning scenery, which locals liken to Hawaii, but you’re likely to see deer and rabbits. If the heat and sand is all becoming a little too much for you and the family, make sure to visit Aquapark Budva. This impressive facility not only has restaurants, shops and great views, but it also has a superb range of water related activities.
During the day, feel free to explore the Old Town. There’s lots to see and you will learn about this unique town’s history, so visit the numerous museums, the Citadel and Santa Maria del Punta Church. After some sightseeing, stretch your legs along the promenade that acts as a walkway between Budva and another of our favourites - Sveti Stefan. Perhaps stop off half way down this coastal boulevard and familiarise yourself with the Montenegrin food, which includes the well-known Njeguski Steak (schnitzel filled with Njegusi prosciutto & cheese), Buzara (shellfish & prawns) and Ispod Saca (a hearty stew). If shopping is your thing, we suggest a trip to Petrovac in order to explore the dozens of unusual boutiques that are still spoilt with prominent coastal views.
Budva does have a recognised nightlife scene, so if you fancy a cocktail in the evening then check out Mogren Beach or Maltez. Festival goers are drawn to this part of the world during late August for the intimate Sea Dance Festival.
Budva has seen some developed over recent years, but that hasn’t taken away from its 2,500-year history. If you want to be wowed by architecture, beaches and wonderful food & drink – we think you’ve found your next holiday!
Prior to Booking
As many of our regions in Montenegro are coastal, there can sometimes be some adverse weather. This tends to only really occur outside of the Peak Season though. When thinking about booking your holiday to Montenegro, please consult Foreign travel advice for more information.
Entry Requirements
Tourists who are British Citizens will not require a visa upon arrival, unless their stay lasts longer than 90 days. Please check Entry Requirements before departure.
Getting There
Sveti Stefan, Bar & Ulcinj are served by Tivat Airport and Podgorica Airport. Please note that Tivat is a smaller International Airport, which can experience overcrowding in Peak Season. Due to its proximity to Orjen & Lovćen Mountains, flights are sometimes re-directed to Podgorica Airport or cancelled in the case of bad weather.
From the UK:
Direct flights are available from London on Montenegro Airlines, easyJet, TUI, Ryanair and many others. Chartered flights are also available from several other UK airports.
From Dubrovnik, Croatia:
Connecting flights are available from Dubrovnik Airport to Podgorica Airport.
By Bus:
GetByBus operates from Dubrovnik, Tivat and Podgorica to Sveti Stefan, Bar & Ulcinj. Journeys can take up to 4 hours and 45 minutes.
Kids
Best Suited For: All AgesWhen thinking of an ideal holiday destination for your family, Montenegro is a fantastic choice. It’s beautiful, brimming with culture, tradition, and history, very welcoming and also promises wonderful weather. It’s popular but not yet to the point of over-saturation, and it’ll be easy for your little ones to make friends here.
Of course, your villa is your kingdom where you can spend ample time together as a unit. With a pool, hot tub, playground, outdoor dining area, Wi-Fi, and a television, you’ll be able to entertain yourselves in a multitude of ways. Holidays are a great time to break through the stagnation of day-to-day life and begin building rituals that help bind you as a family, dinner time together, morning swims, take time to talk, it’s all possible.
Children adore Montenegro’s natural beauty. There are lovely beaches, bold blue seas, sweet hidden coves, and looming mountains which all merge together to create an astonishing and formidable landscape.
There’s a lot to do in the water and along the Montenegrin coast. There’s plenty of play to be had, swimming, diving, making new friends and also enjoying water sports and a bit of adrenaline. There are many restaurants and markets should you wish to enjoy Montenegrin dishes. There’s a lot of meat and fish involved, but you can also find tasty mezee dishes for those who wish to have a vegetarian or vegan option.
Make sure not to miss Skadar Lake, and spend some time exploring the Old Town, which is really the heart of all things and a great way to become acquainted with the origins of the area. You must visit the Budva Riviera, and Mogren and Jaz beaches which are truly beautiful.
Take some time to explore Sveti Nikola island which is only nearby and introduce the children to some culture and history by walking around the old ruins. Monasteries pepper the island and one of the best is known as the Ostrog Monastery.
How could we not mention the Aquapark? With slides and rides, your children can have a day packed with fun and friendship whilst you either join them or take a trip down the lazy river.
Rent a car and explore wider Montenegro. Being so small, it’s not challenging to see it all. The mountain region of Durmitor is formidable, and a trip to the Biogradska Gora national park is a great way to see the biodiversity of the area in full swing.
