Location
About the surrounding area of Dar MbarekDar Mbarek enjoys a wonderful location in Marrakech’s Medina. Though it is only three minute’s walk from Jamaa Elfna Square and very close to the Palais Royal, it is a quiet location where you can shut the door and head up to the roof terrace. The airport is only twelve kilometres away, so you will be enjoying the heady treats of the city in no time.
Marrakech is a bustling, colourful city alive with nose-tingling smells, endless sounds and vibrant sights. Colourful spices, glistening silver lamps with the promise of a genie, colourful vintage and new carpets, jewellery and leather in every shade imaginable feast your eyes. Combined with rich, ancient architecture and a fascinating history, the city draws crowds. Marrakech’s souks are loud, thrilling and full of colour. You will discover snake charmers, storytellers and potion sellers. Dining in the Medina is an adventure and will set your tastebuds tingling. Smoke rises from barbecues which are enjoyed along with Gnawa musicians, acrobats and fortune tellers. The famous Patisserie des Princes is perfect for sweet treats and ice cream afterwards. Many of the riads boast exquisite restaurants for fine dining experiences where you will enjoy creative, spice-laced modern Moroccan menus. In 1985, Marrakech’s Medina was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Ben Youssef Madrasa was built almost five hundred years ago and was once the largest Islamic school in North Africa. It was still used for teaching until 1960 and offered dormitories and rooms that spread out around the central courtyard. This is an intricate and colourful representation of Islamic art with small tiles arranged as mosaics. There are carvings on the walls, columns and different-sized doorways, all fitting together in harmony.
You can discover more of the city’s history at the 16th-century Saadian Tombs, where the Sultan al-Mansour spared no expense in decorating his opulent mausoleum with imported Italian Carrara marble and a gilded honeycomb muqarnas ceiling. The once magnificent Bali Palace is now a monumental ruin with giant reflecting pools and breathtaking views of the city. The stunning Bahia Palace is amazing and offers the mesmerising quarters of Bou Ahmed’s favourite concubine, Lalla Zineb.
Marrakech is sprinkled with magical gardens. Le Jardin Secret is one of Medina’s largest and most important gardens, with a Persian garden full of tufty grasses and olive, pomegranate, fig and date trees and a second smaller garden offering exotic plants. An elaborate irrigation system weaves its way through the gardens, part of an ancient network that once distributed water from artesian wells and fed by the mountains. When fashion icon Yves St Laurent arrived in the city in 1964, he was overwhelmed by the city and its vivacity. He lived in the Jardin Majorelle with his partner, a lush garden painted with an intense shade of ultramarine blue. It is sprinkled with giant cacti, palms and bamboo groves. The Berber Museum is filled with Yves St Laurent’s personal jewellery and fashion collection, and the Musee Yves St Laurent offers a stunning choreography presentation of the clothes in a dramatic black hall.
Hammams were introduced to the city by the Romans and adapted to fit Islamic ablution rituals. Visitors enjoy wonderful hammam experiences at Hammam de la Rose, the Farnatchi Spa, the deluxe Royal Mansour and many other spas.
Leaving the vibrancy and energy of the city, the cooler heights of the mountains are a major draw. Northern Africa’s highest peak, Mount Toubkal, is just a short distance away, surrounded by the magnificent wonder of stunning mountains that are simply perfect for a hike. Within easy reach from the villa, you will also find some of the best golf courses in Marrakech, including the Amelkis Championship Golf Course and the Marrakech Royal Golf Club. You will enjoy unforgettable day trips, visit traditional villages, taste delicious food, and enjoy the fabulous scenery and a mesmerising mix of Berber, Arabian and European cultural influences.

UNFORGETTABLE
We enjoyed our New Year's trip to Marrakech. What truly made this trip a memorable experience was the staff at Dar Mbarek. We recieved a warm welcome from SiMo our Destination Host. The tours that he planned for us were very well organised and a high standard. As a lux travel planner I appreciated that the services were planned well. The house staff Noura and Nadia made our trip UNFORGETTABLE. The service we received was authentic, professional and sincere. They took great care in making every minute of our stay wonderful. Our breakfasts and the in-house dinners they cooked were so special. We felt spoiled...they anticipated our needs everyday. Nadia's massages were wonderful! She created a great space in the Riad that was relaxing and comfortable. We look forward to our next trip to Marrakech!
The road to the Riad had areas that was under construction therefore, it was a bit scary upon our arrival.
